A couple of years ago when I was co-hosting a blog hop for reactive dog owners, our theme one month was what we love about our reactive dogs. I wrote 10 Things I Love About Cricket, and at that point didn’t know that Luke would end up being reactive too.
I like the idea of doing the same type of post for the rest of the crew. Sheba is our one dog that is not reactive – she has some mild fears of storms and riding; but Sheba loves everyone that she meets, human, canine, and feline, anyone and everyone.
- The fact that she loves everyone is one thing that I love about her and here are nine more:
- Her beautiful coat. It drives me insane sometimes trying to keep it looking good and free of mats. I sometimes look at her and tell her she’s a mess; but that I know she’s a tomboy and doesn’t care. But when she is freshly groomed? She couldn’t be more beautiful.
- Her stoicism. Sheba went through three surgeries in just under a year, her last being last December, but through each of them she was such a trooper. She never let on that she was in pain, and the last one especially I knew she was since she was moving so slowly. She would always recover in just a matter of days, which made keeping her quiet for the time we needed to challenging!

4. Her love of life. No matter what we’re doing, or not doing, Sheba is happy. She loves nothing better than our family being outside playing ball. But if we’re just out there hanging around she is content to just sit in the sun or shade and chew on a toy or just relax.

5. Her love of the outdoors. She often prefers to be outdoors enjoying the fresh air when she can. Just lately though she seems to want to spend more time closer to us if we’re indoors. Luckily we all love the outdoors here so we all want to be outside when we can.
6. Her tolerance of her annoying siblings. Luke chews on her head and Cricket gets mad at her if she gets accidentally stepped on. Sheba just puts up with both of them quietly.
7. She plays hard though! Her ferocious nature comes out when playing with toys or playing with her brother. She’s so mild mannered most of the time that we can’t help but laugh when she gets wound up! She would never hurt anyone on purpose, but we do remind her to tone it down at times so no one gets accidentally hurt!

8. Her patience – which she sometimes loses. She is patient most of the time, but when Cricket is screwing around during a game of fetch, not returning the ball to me, Sheba will bark at her to tell her to hurry it up! She’ll also bark at Luke when he’s hogging the ball!

9. Her golden smile.
10. Her love. Sheba doesn’t seek out affection a lot. But when she sees you coming towards her, her tail starts wagging and thumping on the floor. You know she’s looking forward to that special attention, and though she’s stingier with her kisses than her siblings, when she gives you some that makes them even more special.
Do you see the common theme here? There is nothing like the love of our beautiful golden retriever. She is a very special girl who is just all about love; whether she’s giving or receiving it. ♥
I love BOTH my. GOLDEN GIRLS (ages 7 &10). They are both rescues . Addison , my 10yrold “Blondie” . She LOVES. to be outside “patrolling the yard, and keeping it. vermin free” .Daisy , my 7yr.old “rusty redhead” ..is the CLOWN. She cracks me up..She’s so full of energy. and yet if need be could CUDDLE. They BOTH ARE VERY SMART( KNOW THEIR. COMMANDS)and a few “EXTRAS”????????????GOLDENS ARE THE BEST( wasn’t really aware of any other BREED 😉 LOL
Addison and Daisy both sound beautiful! Bless you for rescuing. We didn’t set out to get a golden ourselves, but friends had a litter – we ended up getting two! They are definitely one of my favorite breeds now! ♥
This is such a beautiful post – I love all these wonderful qualities. It’s funny as I added my reactive dog post to this linky and now I need to find the post you mention in the beginning. The quality I love the most is her tolerance of annoying siblings. I’m actually stunned at some of the things our dog Bruiser puts up with when it comes to his two siblings — loved this.
Wow, I somehow missed this post originally. I love the idea of listing your favorite things. She is such a sweet girl.
Such a beautiful post about a beautiful soul.
I love this post. Beautiful, sweet girl.
What a beautiful post. I love your list.
Sheba, the love-love her-
There are so many things in this post that made me smile and also reminded me of my dogs. I may steal this theme from you (with your permission of course!) and do a post on each of my dogs. OH CRAP. I just remembered that yesterday was Delilah’s GOTCHA day. What a bad fur mom.
Anyhow, I look forward to reading the posts about your other dogs.
Please feel free to use this theme, I would love to read the posts!
I understand and don’t think you’re a bad fur Mom, I forget those dates often myself. Last year I missed Samantha’s birthday. It’s coming up next week and I have to keep reminding myself so I don’t forget it again this year!
There really is nothing like being loved by a Golden Retriever!
Sheba is a wonderful girl! The things you love about her are the same things I’ve always loved about Callie and Shadow. Though Callie was always a bit more selective in her choice of non-human “loves” than Shadow. And as for humans, the only one neither of my girls like(d) is the one neighbor.
Awww, Sheba. She’s a special girl for sure!
Sheba is a loving and loved pup for sure.
We bet you could come up with 10 more reasons…Sheba is one loveable dog!
Sheba, you are a wonderful senior gal!
She sounds like a wonderful girl.
Adorable. Look at that big smile
Lily & Edward
What a beautiful tribute to Sheba! I think my mom needs to think about this since she’s always complaining about what drives her nuts, like squeaking toys every night. She tells dad, we’ll miss that when it’s gone! Love Dolly
It’s definitely something to think about. It’s too easy to get caught up in the annoying things; I could probably write a post about that as well! LOL. Sheba’s biggest thing is going in and out a lot, though lately she hasn’t been too bad, and Luke’s the one that’s taken over that habit!
There is nothing like the love of a Golden Retriever. They make us kinder gentler humans. ♥
That is a whole lot of love! She is a beautiful great girl to share your life with.
I so agree with you… a golden smile can make our day even when the sky is gray … and there is no better treatment than some golden kisses when we are sad. Dogtors should prescribe a golden girl/boy instead a pill :o)
