Can you tell what Luke is doing to Sheba here?
A closer look….
He is nibbling on her with his front teeth. He does this a lot. I read recently (I can’t remember where) that this was called “corn cobbing”, “corn rowing”, or “corn on the cobbing”. We used to tell him to stop doing it, but what I read said that it was actually a sign of affection. I believe that because Sheba doesn’t seem to mind it one bit. Look at her expression – she looks like she’s enjoying it, doesn’t she? Plus, Luke adores his sister.
Maybe it feels good, like a real good scratching. She certainly looks happy, doesn’t she?

Do any of your dogs do this to each other, and if so, what do you call it? Do you think that both sides enjoy it?

hahahaha that’s how nellie eats her ear of corn, never heard it called that before and I love it. I call it flea bitting too.
That’s funny. I’ve never seen or heard of this before. So no, mine don’t do it, although I have seen Sampson do something similar when he’s working on an itch. 🙂
My Lab boy Merlin used to do that to my partner and i. I call it “fleaing” like they’re biting fleas.
It’s obvious she is enjoying it! I’ve never seen it before and if Taffy tried it on me I’d probably run! Love Dolly
Oh My-another Too adorable, looks like happy on all sides!!!
Funny, that’s what we always called it when Abby would do it to me. Glad to read it’s a sign of affection! (Guess she had to do it to me, since there wasn’t another dog to do it to.)
It sounds like I might be in for it when Sheba is gone (not that I want to think about that time). I don’t think Cricket would put up with it, and Luke doesn’t mess with her!
So glad it’s a sign of affection! Leo does it to our legs. Lately, though, he’s started poking me with his nose, hard, when he wants my attention.
Is that better or worse than being swatted with a paw? That is Sheba’s method of getting attention! Luke whines…and whines…and whines. Now that can get on the nerves! LOL
Storm does that to Nestle the cat. Then Nestle the cat’s head ends up all full of spit. Yuck. So I kind of discourage it. 🙂
Ha ha…I don’t think Luke actually does this to Sam, but he does tend to slobber on her head sometimes!
So Cute! Nala does this constantly to her dog toys and Cody does this to all the people in the house.
We’ve never heard of this. It sure looks like Sheba likes it. 🙂
Oh my goodness Cocoa does this!! She nibbles all the time when we are wrestling or if she is playing at the dog park!!
Jax will do it to Harley but he gets so aggressive – starts pulling the ear, then Harley starts doing the same and next thing I know I’ve got a full blown out romp on my hands LOL All from a little display of love… #gofigure
Boys will be boys…LOL!
None of that happening here. Cat bro Bert sometimes bites into Katie, but she does not like it at all. Luke and Sheba seem like a real cute pair.
Awe! They are too cute! Yes, my dog do this to each other all the time. It is a sign of affection and also a grooming behavior.
Judging by how often I see Luke doing it to Sheba, she must have a very dirty face. LOL
That’s so interesting. I haven’t seen that behavior before between dogs but it seems very sweet. Haley does this when she’s trying to take off my socks, lol!
Sheba certainly looks happy! I didn’t know it was called corn cobbing. I just called it nitting, like when they nibble each other to keep clean. Only having Sable, she does it to my hand when she cuddles up to me. It feels quite odd.
I would think it would feel odd! Luke has never tried to do it to me, though he does occasionally throw in a little nibble when he’s kissing me!
So cute!
That’s so cute that he does that to Sheba and she looks so happy about it! Barley does that to her most favorite toys, so I guess that she’s telling them she loves them!
The dogs do this to Misty the alpha Poodle. If she didn’t enjoy is they wouldn’t dare do it.
I’ve never seen Luke even try to do it to Cricket….he probably knows better. Cricket never hesitates to put him in his place, but Sheba puts up with a lot more from him!
That is so funny! I have never seen that before but it does look like he’s eating corn on the cob! ROFL! ☺
Haha that is funny! I have not heard that term before. I see Shiner do this to herself… I am trying to think if I’ve ever seen her do it to one of the rats before… if she did it would have been Nibblet because the boys aren’t super interested in her.
Mom is laughing so hard! Cute
Lily & Edward
YES! We always call it “corn cobbing,” so I’m sort of tickled to find out that’s the official name for the behavior!
I never heard of this but I am with you…the look on Sheba’s face says it all…she obviously enjoys it and Luke is happy to do it.
Honestly, I can’t remember ever seeing any of my dogs doing that to each other, even the ones who were bonded to each other like superglue – Callie and Shadow or Coco and Pixie (my very first dogs who were mother and daughter). Callie used to groom Shadow a lot. I think, aside from the obvious love and companionship Callie provided, Shadow misses the grooming most. Sure, she still loves to play and misses playing with her big sister; but Callie’s devoted attention meant the world to Shadow. Now the tears are flowing so I need to stop typing, get dressed, and take the girls outside. ????
And you made me cry too. 🙁 Your comments reminded me of our golden Moses (Sheba’s littermate as well as brother), and how he used to clean Sheba’s ears all the time.
Luke mostly just chews on Sheba though, he doesn’t really do any affectionate type grooming, other than this I guess! 🙂
Interesting – not familiar with the term and don’t know any anipals who do that….but Sheba obviously has no problem with it and who knows – maybe it DOES feel good!!!
Hugs, Sammy
maybe this is a special way to say I love you? I saw that Easy’s mom did that with her puppies and they enjoyed it… I love Easy but I rather buy him a toy than to use my teeth that way LOL
