Good news first! The following pets I shared have now been adopted (click on their name to see original post):
- Brinkley (dog) & Fedora (cat) at Best Friends Animal Society
- Angel & Honey Boo Boo, brother & sister Pit Bulls in NY
- Hocus, a Maine Coon Cat here in NH
Today I am sharing a black Labrador retriever named Deeks. Deeks is currently at the Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society in Brownsville, Vermont.
Some details about Deeks:
- Large adult male, 2 years old
- Neutered
- Up to date on routine shots
- Housetrained
Deeks is a friendly and loving boy with a lot of energy! He is learning to contain his excitement and to walk nicely on a leash. He loves to run and play and would do well in a fenced in yard where he can get lots of exercise. He came into the shelter as a stray. Isn’t he handsome?
You can visit Deek’s Petfinder page by clicking here.
**UPDATE: AS OF 8/5/14, DEEKS HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!**
Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society has an interesting history. It was founded in 1915 by Frank Mackenzie, a Woodstock, Vermont businessman in memory of his wife Lucy. Lucy was a caring woman who quietly worked to help those in need. After her death, her husband starting the society to help children, horses, and other animals. They eventually no longer saw the need to serve children, and they moved their original location in Woodstock,Vermont to 14 acres in West Windsor. Today it is one of the oldest operating no-kill humane societies in the country.

They offer dog training classes and many different programs in humane education at their shelter. You can visit their website here, or follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

He is very handsome. I bet he will find a good home. Great news on the adoptions!
Oh my goodness, I just checked on Deeks and he has been adopted!! Yay!!
Deeks is such a handsome fellow! Sharing.
Thanks for sharing, Sue!
He is so gorgeous, I hope someone snaps him up!! I love that the shelter is no kill and that he started it in memory of his wife. What a beautiful gift to her legacy.
I did go back and read the earlier posts too, but for the sake of time, I’m commenting on this one.
We have a drinking fountain too that I got last year at Blog Paws. Would you believe my dogs won’t use it? I have to try it again and figure out a way to help them adjust to it.
Congrats on all the goodies you won too, that’s a very nice prize package! I love how you set the yard up for the pups to play with a whole bunch of different things. I wish our yard was flat, I could totally do that. :0(
You are so right, Jodi, it certainly is a beautiful gift to his wife’s legacy.
So far Luke is the only one using the fountain often, though Cricket has been seen drinking out of it once and my hubby thinks he saw the cat Sam just finishing drinking from it too. Sheba doesn’t like anything new!
It is nice having the flat yard, and we can’t wait to get the agility set to try that out too!
Wow, what a handsome boy, and what a fabulous looking shelter! I hope he finds his furever home soon, but in the meantime – that looks like a good spot to be while he waits. Hopefully it will be a short wait!
I hope he finds a home soon, but it does help to be in a nicer place waiting.
Deeks really is a looker and I shared! Hooray for those adoptions, they always make us smile!
We just love the good news, don’t we? Thank you for sharing Deeks!

This shelter sounds absolutely amazing! I’m sharing in the hopes that Deeks finds his forever home like the other lucky pups you’ve shared!
It does sound like a wonderful shelter, doesn’t it? It’s about an hour from where I live, and has a very good reputation in the area. I hope to hear good news on Deeks as well!
Deeks is beautiful! He looks like my Scout, only black! I wish I could adopt him!!!! I would love to have another black lab! Sharing.
He is, isn’t he? I love black labs too….we’ve only had one and she was a mix but I’ve wanted another ever since! Thanks for sharing!
I have visited Lucy Mackensie Humane before. It is a great place. The animals are really well cared for and the facility is fairly modern. Hope Deeks finds a home soon.
That’s wonderful, Mark! I haven’t been there myself, but it certainly looks great in the photo. I should go visit sometime.
