Mother Nature still has on a roller coaster ride that will be taking us right into March. Yesterday it was raining most of the morning, quite hard at times, and then before the storm ended, there was a little bit of snow.

We chose many of the chicken breeds for the farm that we did because of their winter-hardiness. However, even though they can survive our cold New England winters doesn’t mean they’re happy about it! If we’re getting a big snowstorm that’s piling up, they’ll pretty much stay inside, though some will venture from the coop to the garage.

This warmer spell we’ve been having the last few days has been right up their alley, with the driveway and some of the yard now being snow free. Even when the rain changed to snow, they still ventured out to see me when I went out to check for eggs.

I guess as long as the ground isn’t covered, they’re OK with it. They don’t mind getting wet, rain rarely keeps them inside unless it is really coming down hard.

As our snow has been melting from warmth and rain, there is not a lot of pretty to see around here, except for our birds of course!

I love seeing your chickens and getting that glimpse into your life! I am still holding out hope for a little snow in March (last year on March 1st we had snow) But all that’s in the forecast for this week is rain. Maybe next week.
I do hope you’ve had a good weekend, and that you have a good week ahead too!
Ha ha, you are hoping for snow, and we are hoping not to see any more (though I imagine we will, maybe even this week)!
I hope you have a good week too. ♥
Even chickens don’t like to be cooped up!
That’s the truth! I imagine that’s how that saying got started! 🙂
Great photos of the ladies.
Thank you, Ellen!
Beautiful photos!!!
I like how those sweeties come running to see Momma!!!
It always amazes me what social birds they are! ♥
We always love seeing your feathered family!!
We are so glad you enjoy them!
I love how your chickens are a lot like curious kittens!
How fun that they love the outdoor times, even in winter.
It is unbelievable how nosy they are! If you are carrying anything, they want to know what it is, and will even try to grab it away from you!
Your birds are most adorable. We don’t go through that awkward stage between winter and spring. I’m happy about that.
Have a fabulous day and weekend. Scritches and lovies to Luke. ♥
Yes, you are lucky not to have that awkward stage. It’s always a battle around here between spring and winter, with winter never giving up easily! 🙂
They have such fun names! Looks like a melty mess. For us this winter has not been good, way too much warm and melting. I guess if we were chickens, we would love it.
It has been a crazy winter here, and I know not a good one for you.
I have trouble keeping track of all the girls names sometimes, and my hubby doesn’t even try! LOL
oh what fabulous dresses they wear… specially the one in the middle.. like a robe of a queen!
That is so true! They think they are royalty too. LOL
Something just hit me as I looked at the second picture – Charlie chaperoning the hens. Maybe Chick Momma Sam sent him to watch over her flock. Maybe she knew what they needed and was crafty enough to fool you into adopting him. I like that story. The chicks sure breathed a lot of life back into Sam when she was here though 🙂
I LOVE that story!! Thank you so much. ♥ I wonder what Charlie would have thought of Sam? I think he would have loved her just like her girls did.
Your chickens are so beautiful and colorful!
Thank you, Molly! It’s so fun to have a good variety of them.
