There are a lot more opportunities for mischief in a multiple pet household! Before Luke joined our crew, all of the pets were getting older and we didn’t get quite as much mischief. Luke has added some youth and vigor to the game, and he gets his sisters involved as well. Also, don’t expect much peace and quiet when you have multiple pets. When I was gone to Nashville, I couldn’t believe how quiet a room could be in the morning! I am more used to this morning routine:
I missed that when I was gone, because I can’t sleep most mornings anyway, and they always make me laugh (and don’t worry, they are just playing, we watch them closely to be sure no one gets seriously mean). Ever since our beagle Kobi, we’ve been early risers. Before Kobi passed on, he was sure to teach his early rising habits to Luke. Multiple pets definitely learn from each other, and it’s not always the things you want them to learn!
It’s not just the pets though, the humans have more opportunities for mischief involving the animals. If you have five pets, and then have a lot going on in addition to that (such as a trip out of town), you might accidentally forget someone’s birthday. Samantha’s birthday was last Monday and I felt so bad that we had missed it!

Hopefully the goodies I brought home from my trip will make up for that unintended oversight. Or now that she’s getting older she’s like her Mom and mostly wants to ignore birthdays anyway. 🙂
Now what further mischief do you suppose the humans got up to that led to this craziness from Cricket and Luke? I bet some of you can guess. Come back tomorrow to find out what this was all about!

I missed Brychwyn and Huxley’s birthdays and Amelia’s gotcha day last year when I had to fly to Buffalo for my grandfather’s funeral. We were supposed to have a make up celebration but that still hasn’t happened. So there are a lot of pets here with your same mad look Samantha. But no one had a birthday as important as 13 missed! Becoming a teenager is pretty special. 🙂
Oh yes, she’s a teenager now…that explains a lot! 🙂
We used to call our beagle “the fuzzy alarm” because she woke us up every morning at exactly 6:45. We literally never set our real alarm (unless we needed to get up earlier once in a while.) One of the things we love best about Rita is her love of sleeping in! 🙂 It’s good you guys are early risers with that crew.
As for the human mischief… did you try to put bandanas on those kids?!
Yes, you got it right, Jackie! Luke was running around with his in his mouth, and Cricket was rolling around on hers trying to get it dirty! At least in Tuesday’s post I showed the nice pictures of them posing with them on before I let them outside! 🙂
Sheba was the only one that behaved herself, and she had her bandana on all day.
I think I would have put money on Sheba being the only one who would wear her bandana with no issues. 🙂 (Just went and looked at the pics of them in their bandanas – so cute! Rita has one I made her wear all of one day. Maybe i’ll get it out and put it on her!)
There’s always one trouble-maker in the family. We guess that’s Luke. You go, Luke! 😉
Happy Belated Birthday, Samantha!
You guessed that right, and Samantha thanks you. 🙂
Luke and Sheba, so funny to watch-stilll can’t believe how fearsome Sheba can look! Happy belated Birthday to Samantha!! We know she had a great day, as every day is, and didn’t miss any fuss, lol! Nina’s birthday was same day as yours, Jan, the 5th! She was 9, we won’t mention your age, as I’m sure you’d appreciate!! Wink! Hmmm, that looks different, what Cricket and Luke are going nuts over, I sure can’t guess it-it looks like a piece of paper or some such thing!!
Oh, I forgot Nina’s birthday was that week too! Happy Belated to her as well.
They were going nuts because we gave them baths, and then put bandanas on them!
I sure hope Samantha had a Happy Birthday! She has such pretty green eyes. Your dogs make almost as much of a ruckus as mine do when they’re playing!
Sometimes I think having multiples would be nice with all the action and drama but I do admit to liking the peace and quiet!
I can’t honestly say I didn’t enjoy that a little bit when I was gone away….actually being able to sleep past 5:15 a couple of mornings and then take my time getting up was nice too!
That sounds a lot like the ritual here in Doodleville. so much noise, but I wouldn’t trade it for nothing in the world. Hope Samantha has a great birthday.
OK, that is just too funny. Luke looks and sounds so mean then looks around to see if anyone is paying attention and then yawns. And Sheba is the best, she looks at you and then it’s like, oh yeah I should answer Luke, gets her own in there and with a final growl goes back to chewing like nothing is up. So cute.
Happy Birthday Sam
Happy Birthday Sam, I don’t think she’s very happy to reveal her age LOL Although I’m not a multipet house at the moment, I love the amount of energy having more than one pet brings to a home.
Happy belated birthday to Samantha! It is weird how you miss the barking and pitter patter of all those feet when you are away from them. Bentley and Pierre have their favorite toy…it’s the one the other dog is playing with! LOL!
Geez mom is so far behind! I would hate to meet that Samantha in the dark those eyes would scare the you-know-what out of me! Love Dolly
That look on Samantha’s face, lol! I think she’s trying to make you feel guilty for missing her birthday. Nah, I think she’s just trying to get extra treats from the goodie bag. 🙂
They know how to work us, don’t they? 😉
They are all so dang cute.
Great video! Fun with multiple pets for sure. Happy Birthday Sam.
Happy 13th Birthday Sam!
Aww! Hey now! You can’t be missing birthdays over there, because I can’t make you birthday cards!!! hahahaha! Happy late bday anyways!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Darn, I should have told you Jenna, then I wouldn’t have had to make a card! LOL
Wow that playing looks serious. Happy birthday Sam. You look great for 13! Hope you got belated treats.
Waking up with no pets is just plain odd says the mom! The only plus is you have nothing to do in the morning, but Mom says she prefers furry faces waiting for walks, runs, food, snuggles, etc. I’m sure it is the same with mini humans.
Aw, don’t feel bad about missing Sam’s birthday. She doesn’t know what the fuss is all about. She just enjoys the attention. Birthday celebrations and such are for our human sensitivities. That said, though, I have missed some of our girls’ birthdays over the years. And felt bad about it too. Life happens. I usually just give them extra lovin and playtime. We already have an over-abundance of toys in the house. 🙂
Happy Birthday dear Samantha! Have a super day and a giant cake :o)
I agree, they can learn from each other… and we better stay with one dog… I’m afraid someone could learn something from Easy LOL
