Kobi Keefe reporting here….I’ve been elected, since I’m the oldest, to tell about the mischief Mom and Dad have gotten into lately. I know, I know, Conrad is really the oldest, but all he wants to do is eat and sleep, he has no interest in telling stories.
We know Mom has already let the cat out of the bag (well, puppy, as it were), last Thursday, about the new addition coming to our household. We thought this was a democracy here, but none of us, canine or feline, got a vote. Mom says she thinks it will be good for us….maybe get some of us lazy old guys and girls moving a bit more. We’ll see about that. At the time she told you the puppy had not been selected yet, but now the choice has been made.
We at least get to introduce our new brother:
His name given to him by his foster family is Goblin. His name when he comes to live with us is going to be Luke. No, we didn’t get a vote on that either! He will be joining us at the beginning of the new year. Mom is dying to tell you the story of how all this came about, so I am going to turn this story over to the Momz:
As I said on Thursday, I thought we had settled into being a 3 dog household, and that we were all good with that. That was all until October 27th. My hubby and I were in bed with the World Series game on that evening, and I had my tablet with me and was perusing Facebook. A photo and caption popped up from a page I follow, Peace and Paws Dog Rescue. (click on their name to see the original post I saw) They are here in NH, and some of you on Facebook may be familiar with them. They are the ones that share “Giddy & Twinkle’s Tip of the Day”.
The photo stated that a dog named Dolly was giving birth to puppies…two had been born on 10/26 and the rest were still on the way. I showed this to my hubby, half-jokingly. Why? October 27th was the birthday of our very special lab mix, Maggie, who has been gone for 9 years now. That same fall after we lost Maggie, our beagle Cricket came home with us….on 10/27. Two days previous to that Sheba and Moses had been born. Their Mom belongs to a friend of ours, and we were hoping for them to also be born on the 27th, but they arrived a couple of days early. What else happened on that date? The Red Sox won the World Series for the first time since 1918.
Mind you, my hubby and I aren’t huge baseball fans. But my family is, and I used to follow it very closely when I was a teenager. Some of my fondest memories are of going to Fenway Park with my family. My Mom and paternal grandmother were huge fans, and they had both passed away before seeing their beloved Red Sox win the World Series. That made it something special for my family that year. So we still follow baseball somewhat and that year we were watching the World Series. I remember the night they won clearly…..because I had a baby beagle sleeping on my chest, and we couldn’t cheer when they won, for fear of waking her up.
So here we were in 2013 watching the World Series again, which the Red Sox ended up winning again. A litter of lab mix puppies were being born that same day. Maggie was a lab mix. Can you see where I’m going with this? That’s an awful lot of coincidences, and seemed like a sign to me.
I shared the photo with my sister Lynn, because her dog Bear was Maggie’s littermate. She hasn’t had a dog since, so I’m always sharing adoptable dog and puppy photos with her. However, she lives alone and works long hours so the time is not right for her. What I didn’t expect was how my husband was very quick to jump on the idea. I was only half serious, and very unsure, but he had no doubts. I don’t jump into things, and I have mulled over this considerably, driving my poor hubby crazy with my indecision. He was leaving it up to me. He was on board but he wanted me to want it too. One of the big factors holding me back was the feeling that I just don’t have time for a puppy. But when I came up with the idea of cutting back my work hours a bit more, and got both my hubby and my boss on board with that idea, the decision was finally made. We filled out the application and after a few days were approved.

Mama Dolly was pulled from a shelter down South along with another pregnant dog named Luna, a shepherd mix. Luna gave birth in a foster home literally the day after being rescued. Dolly’s litter came a week after that. Dolly had 13 pups (one didn’t make it), and Luna had 10. We wanted a male dog and there were only 2 in Dolly’s litter, but 7 in Luna’s. So we did consider for a while getting one of Luna’s instead, since there were some black males in that litter and Maggie had been black. All the puppies were of course adorable, so it wasn’t an easy decision and we did mull it over for a few days after our final approval from the rescue. We ended up settling on one of Dolly’s after all, partly because we wanted a Lab mix and also because of them being born on Maggie’s birthday (well, we can’t be sure he wasn’t actually born on the 26th, but that’s OK).

These pups are in foster care down south, and they won’t be transported here to New England until January 3rd. So now the waiting and preparing begins! It’s going to be a long 6 weeks, but at least we have the holidays to keep us busy!

Oh that’s such fantastic news! What a cutie Luke is, I’m sure he’ll be a wonderful addition to the family, and he might even remind the older ones of some of the puppy mischief they’ve forgotten about! Tee Hee
I hope you’re having a fun day,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Thank you, Snoopy! I hope you are right…I’d like to see the older ones have some more fun again!
So exciting-can’t wait to see the new addition 🙂
Thanks for coming by! One cool thing is that Luke’s foster mother thinks there might be some Aussie/Cattle Dog in these puppies!
Definitely the stars were aligning to bring that pup to you! (And sweet on the less-work-hours thing too!) He’s SO adorable!! Almost makes me want a puppy. Almost. 🙂 Can’t wait to hear more about him!
Thank you, Jackie! Everything really seemed to be working out to make this happen, so I believe it really is meant to be! You can get your puppy fix from us…though I thought I’d be happy doing that with some of the other bloggers who got puppies recently, but it just made me want one more! 🙂
This is so exciting and the coincidences are too many to ignore. We’ve discussed puppies lately too as the rescue up the street has some, but honestly I don’t know that I have the time for it right now. I’d like to live vicariously through you though. 🙂 I love, love, love puppies and I can’t wait to ‘meet’ Luke!
Thank you, Jodi! And thanks for understanding my little bit of craziness about all the dates and such. Time was one of the biggest factors for me too, and if I hadn’t been able to reduce my work hours a bit, I’m not sure we would have done it. I’ll be happy to let you live vicariously through us, and I can’t wait for everyone to meet Luke!
Congratulations! This is a wonderful story! Can’t wait to see pictures once he’s home with you!
Thank you, Jessica! I’m sure there will be no shortage of photos….thank goodness I just got my phone upgraded too. I needed one with a better camera!
So I know you definitely don’t need another serendipity clue but when I read “Luke” I just about freaked out because that was Brychwyn’s name until it was decided that he would be our blue merle and his blue merle brother, who is now Luke, would go and live in Canada. How many times can I type “Congratulations” before your comment space runs out?!? This is just so exciting!
Thank you so much!! I love how excited everyone is! That is so cool about Brychwyn and his brother. I am glad to have more serendipitous clues, in case I have any doubts that we made the right decision (don’t worry, I really don’t)!
Wow, just getting around to all my blog catching up – this is so exciting! I absolutely think the stars aligned and this little guy is meant to be with you. Can’t wait to read about him in the weeks and years to come! Congrats!
PS. 4 dogs…wow.
Oh, thank you for saying that! I wasn’t sure if I was reading too much into all the coincidences and dates. I’m sure he’s going to give me lots of blog material! I wasn’t sure about 4 dogs either, but in some ways having only 3 created some problems with the odd numbers, especially when they are at different activity levels (you may remember me writing about that some). I think we needed our balanced numbers back! 🙂
I love the name and he’s so cute. Can’t wait to hear about his homecoming and how everyone reacts.
Thanks, Karen. It’s going to be quite an adventure I think!
Squeee!! Luke is so cute! Gah – I love puppies! And what a story. The stars aligned for you and little Luke. I seriously can’t wait to read all about his adventures!!
Thank you, Maggie! I love how everyone else is almost as excited as we are, and that you don’t think I’m a little nuts after that story! 🙂 I can’t wait to have better photos to share…I’m hoping the foster mom will send some more soon.
Oh wow…I missed the “cat out of the bag” post, so I’m so glad I popped in today. A BIG congrats on little Luke. Love that he was born on Maggie’s birthday. 🙂
Thank you, Donna. The birthday really does make it so special!
How wonderful! Congratulations on the new addition to the family. All the pups and Moms are gorgeous of course – Luke is TOO CUTE!!! I know it will be hard waiting six weeks but what fun it will be when the day comes that he’s there – also can’t wait to see how the others feel about this little guy running around!
Pam and Sam
Thank you, Pam and Sam! It was so hard making the choice out of all of those puppies, but once we did I knew it was the right one. I’m sure the day will be here before we know it!
Oh, congratulations! I remember when we were waiting to bring Küster home when he was a little fuzzball and it felt like forever! And then we got him here and questioned our sanity, but life definitely changed for the better! I can’t wait to hear about all Luke’s puppy antics!
Thank you! I’ve seen what fun you’ve had bringing Flattery into your fold too, and that also influenced my decision! I do sometimes question our sanity but I know it’s going to be good in the long run!
You are a great story teller, Jan-and Kobi is darn good himself! Well, with all these signs, I am seeing how you could not have made a different decision-and I am already SO excited to meet Luke, I can’t wait either! I already feel a special connection, just cause of Maggie and Bear-and the rest only adds to it. He is going to be a new color for our family crew, I think, it is going to be so cool to see him, and watch what he grows into! Congrats!
Thank you, Lynn, for all of that. It is really going to be kind of cool not knowing his breed for sure, and seeing what he grows into as you said. It certainly does feel like it was meant to be, and I hope there is a little bit of both Maggie and Bear in him!
Oh my gosh!!! PUPPY. So cute and how exciting.
Thank you, Roxy!!
awww so exciting! and what a great coincidence. puppies can be a lot of work but they are just soooo cute 🙂 congrats!

Thank you, Jackie! Sometimes it does just seem that things are meant to be. All the fun and joy of a puppy should make up for the work it will also surely entail!
Congrats on your new edition. That is a great story!
Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed the story of how all this came about.
Janet so happy to hear this! I can’t wait to see all the pics and updates when you get Luke! 🙂
Thank you, Mary!! I’m sure there will be lots and lots of photos and updates! 🙂
Fabulous story and congrats on luke. I bet you can’t wait to have him home.
Thank you! No, we cannot wait. We’ll have to keep ourselves busy buying stuff for him. 🙂
this story completely brought tears to my eyes! 10/27 has certainly been lucky for you and I am sure your luck will continue with Luke! His markings are so adorable, like a little cow! Now, too bad it wasn’t 10/20 (that is my birthday! lol)
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!
Thank you so much, Caren!! I love that you enjoyed the story….and at least the date is CLOSE to your birthday anyway!!
Aww cute puppy and so much fun to raise 🙂
Thanks, Jim, I think from what I’ve seen on your site, you know how much fun puppies are!
So exciting! You’re going to have a lot of Monday Mischief material. I don’t know if we’ll ever be ready for a puppy.
Yes, I’m sure I am. I’m not sure you can ever really be ready either….sometimes you just have to take the plunge! 🙂
Aw, Luke is so cute. We bet he’ll be a lot of fun. 🙂
Thanks, guys (& girls)….I hope our cats will think so too! 🙂
That is exciting! That waiting will kill you according to Mom who had to wait about four months for me, but it was well worth the wait!
Well, I’m glad we at least don’t have to wait 4 months….6 weeks will be much easier in comparison. It will be worth the wait though!
I’m so excited for you guys and little Luke! He couldn’t be coming into a more loving home. 🙂
Thank you, Sheryl! That’s so sweet of you to say. 🙂
OMD OMD a puppy.. WOW .. We are so excited 🙂 ..All posted today xxooxxxx
