There’s something fairly new in the natural animal care world, and I’ve been curious about it for quite a while. I met the company Treatibles at the BlogPaws conference, and I was immediately interested in their products. I had already been reading about the benefits of Hemp and CBD (cannabinoids) oil for pets and knew it was something I wanted to try for both Luke and Cricket. If you haven’t heard about this, you probably immediately think what many do – equate this to marijuana, but it is not the same thing.

Treatibles are made with CBD and only non-psychoactive phytocannabinoids. They will not get your pet high. The hemp they use to make their products, grown in Colorado, is registered as medicinal grade hemp, it is specifically grown for medicine. You can read more about the science of it all on their website through this link.
Some of the conditions pet families have noted this product can help with are:
- Pain and inflammation.
- Separation anxiety.
- Anxiety from fireworks, grooming, car rides, obsessive behavior, socializing with animals and people.
- Cancer symptoms and side effects from chemotherapy.
- Seizures, epilepsy, and other neurological conditions and symptoms.
- Joint/muscle pain, arthritis, hip dysplasia.
- Trauma, mood disorders, and behavioral issues.
- Allergies and itching.
If you know my K9 crew and our history, you know that #3 and #6 were what I was most hoping to get help with from this product. The itching and allergies were not on my initial list, that became an issue for us with Luke later, and that ended up being what I saw some of the most benefit with.
We got some samples of their pumpkin dog chews at the conference, and the dogs really liked them so I wanted to try those further to see if our crew benefited. The truth is, other than some mild things like Cricket being a bit less concerned about thunderstorms, I didn’t see a significant difference. I couldn’t really judge about joint improvements, since both are already on supplements for that and doing rather well.

It was Luke’s fears and anxieties I was most interested in helping, and even when I kept increasing his dosage (your dog cannot overdose on these!), I just wasn’t seeing a change. I didn’t want to keep increasing his calorie intake without seeing the benefits. There had been nothing to lose trying – these treats are made with healthy and nutritious ingredients – pumpkin, coconut oil, turmeric, cinnamon; and they are free of preservatives, additives, by-products, and artificial flavors. Plus the dogs love them.
I was disappointed; I had high hopes for this product. We’ve tried many things for Luke’s anxiety, and even strong medicines aren’t a match for it! At the same time, I was reading of successes from other pet bloggers and I didn’t want to give up. The ones I had read that seemed to be having the most success were using the CBD oil, not just the treats, and the company offered to let me try that as well.
It just so happened that around the time I was ready to start the oil, Luke started with his allergy issues. We had to attack that from many levels. Taking Luke to the vet is a huge challenge because of his fears, so we like to try things at home before we go that route. I ruled out fleas, switched his food for a bit (turns out that was not it), put him on Benadryl, gave him baths with herbal shampoo and conditioner, and soothed his skin while preventing infection with apple cider vinegar and water. That all helped, but he was still scratching and biting at himself a lot.

I suspected it was seasonal, and seemed to be proved right when our weather cooled off and we kept the house mostly closed up. He got better. I didn’t want to try the oil while he was on the Benadryl, even though it is safe and non-toxic and can be used with other medications. I always figure less is more. Our weather turned back the other way, windows were open more, and sure enough, Luke started scratching again. I felt like the Benadryl had been of limited success (and that also didn’t calm him down any which I had hoped it might). I had read in other places that CBD oil could also benefit dogs with itching and allergies, so knew it was the perfect time to try it.
I really think it helped; and I started to see some other benefits as well that I hadn’t on the treats. First of all, while he was still scratching and biting some, it was far less than before. I could mostly get him to stop; and I think I figured out one way the CBD benefited: it took away some of his obsessiveness. I think that his biting and scratching became obsessive; it was not purely a product of his itchiness, though the oil probably helped that as well.
Part of the reason I came to that conclusion is that I started to see some behavioral changes too. They weren’t dramatic, mind you, but they were there. When I brought Cricket home from her heart tests at the vet, she was loopy from anesthetic. I kept her separate from Luke not just to keep her quiet and safe from falling down stairs or off furniture, but because he can get snarly at times in this situation, where the other pet has strange smells on them from the vet’s office. But when I put Cricket in our small fenced in area and then let him outside to see her safely from the other side of the fence, he smelled her but didn’t snarl or growl at all. It was the same thing when I brought her in and got her settled in the crate. I was surprised, because that behavior is what got him and our cat Sam separated in the first place.
Then I noticed something else not long after. When my hubby was getting home from work, Luke wasn’t going nuts as is his usual routine (and again, he’ll growl at his sister if he wants Dad’s attention first). In fact, he now watches my hubby pull in, and he comes over and stays with me until the Dadz gets in the house and then goes to greet him. He’s still enthusiastic, but not out of control, and doesn’t get as jealous when Cricket goes to Dad.
A third thing – when people have been over the house, some of the time (not all) he is settling down quicker. He does his usual barking at first, but the other day, even when a couple people he considers strangers were right close to the dog fence or door, he didn’t bark other than when he first saw them. He even wandered off not paying much attention. He had more problems when men were working right outside the windows, but I was at least able to get him away (something we’re always working on) and settled.
In conclusion, I can’t tell you definitively that the CBD oil was totally responsible for all this, but I truly think it has helped. We believe that enough that I’m going to keep Luke on it. We put the correct dosage for his weight on his morning and evening meals, and some days I also give him some of the treats in the middle of the day as well.
I think that while it can’t take away some of the personality traits that make him react to things – territorialness, protectiveness, or fearfulness, it has helped relieve some of his obsessiveness that goes along with those things. It may also be benefiting his joint issues (luxating patellas), I haven’t seen his knee pop out recently (though that comes and goes so I’ll need more time to judge on that).
I believe in using all-natural remedies whenever we can, but I think they only work for some pets. I am convinced they’re worth trying at the least. Even strong medicines don’t always work for every pet, and at least I feel something like this is far safer. I was a nervous wreck when we tried Luke on two meds to get him to the vet’s office, but I didn’t feel that way when trying this.
I also wish I had tried this with Sheba when she was fighting cancer. I was aware it was out there at that time, but with so much going on and to figure out, I just didn’t have time to do enough research to feel comfortable with it at the time. But now, I would try it in a second if, heaven forbid, we’re ever dealing with that again.

Though Cricket initially tried the treats, we are not using the oil with her. We may in the future to benefit her joints. Her fears of loud noises seem to have abated much recently, I think perhaps she might be losing some of her hearing due to age, and she sleeps sounder. While Luke runs to his closet when our neighbor does target shooting, it doesn’t seem to bother her. In the past, she was petrified of fireworks, so that surprised me (luckily we don’t have close fireworks here). She is on two new heart medications right now, so I wouldn’t choose to start her on any supplement without checking with my vet first. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, and right now she’s feeling very well.
We’ve been having a very warm and humid spell of weather here, so our house has been open a lot, and we’ve been outside often. That’s important to us because we love being outdoors as much as possible, or bringing the fresh air in while we can, and Luke wants to be with us. He has not been doing any worse, in fact, he’s been better lately.

It’s worth noting that while the Treatibles chews are for dogs, the oil is safe for many animals. There are also gelcaps available for larger animals. Dosages can be adjusted to what works for your pet. I encourage you to visit Treatibles on their website to learn more about how their CBD oil products might help your pet.

My 4 yr old son, diagnosed with childhood epilepsy syndrome. this means their epilepsy has specific characteristics. These can include the type of seizure or seizures they have, the age when the seizures started and the specific results of an electroencephalogram (EEG). We looked for a solution then i saw this upon searching https://www.worldwide-marijuana-seeds.com/collections/humboldt-marijuana-seeds that it can be an alternative solution for this. Early evidence from laboratory studies, anecdotal reports, and small clinical studies over a number of years suggest that cannabidiol (CBD) could potentially help control seizures. Research on CBD has been hard to do and taken time due to federal regulations and limited access to cannabidiol. There are also many financial and time constraints. In recent years, a number of studies have shown the benefit of specific plant-based CBD product in treating specific groups of people with epilepsy who have not responded to traditional therapies.
Interesting. I have been considering CBD oil for Bone Jovi’s anxiety. I have researched several brands and treatibles seemsto provide the most complete information on their product. I’m going to order some.
That’s great! I hope it does help Bone Jovi. And may I say how much I love that name!!
That is a very interesting post, and it sounds like you have achieved some real changes with the treatment. I wonder if there is an accumulative effect with this and a slower start will lead on to better results over a longer period of time? I shall look out for these folk come the next blogpaws, should they be there.

Hmmm…that’s an interesting thought and something I hadn’t considered. I had thought perhaps we’d only use it on occasion when needed most, so that is definitely an important point.
This is so interesting and I appreciate your honest review very much! I am always skeptical when people try some natural product and make all sorts of claims about dramatic, life changing results. Having lived with a very reactive dog, I am confident that a few treats, no matter what they are made of, would not have changed or improved his behavior dramatically. I think the CBD stuff is very interesting, and I’m like you, it doesn’t hurt to try it. Every dog is different and you never know who will have great results with it. I’m so happy for you that Luke is doing better and is less reactive at times than he was.
I think all of us hope for a magic “cure” for our reactive dogs, but I imagine there is a not a quick or easy one out there. I’d hate to give anyone super high hopes only to have them disappointed.
I totally agree. Treating and helping a reactive dog can involve training with the dog, medications, natural products, Tellington Touch, Reiki, Thunder Coats, Calming music for dogs and flower essences. Those are just the things we’ve tried with Bone Jovi. No two dogs are the same and so the search for what helps is sometimes long.
Tellington Touch is one of the next things I’m going to try with Luke!
I have a great book you can borrow. Hmm…Now to find it. If you get a chance to do a seminar it is amazing.
I’m so glad you are seeing improvements with Luke. We’ve been using the CBD oil too, and I’m currently working on our review. It’s interesting how many different ways CBD oil can help our pets.
I can’t wait to hear about your experiences with it too.
Thanks for the info! The female human picked some of these up at BlogPaws and the nice humans there said it’s good for cats too. I will remind the female human that the package is still tucked away in the pantry and we need to try some with our fearful Jasmine. And it might be a good idea to give some to me and Alberto because we chase Lily around the house all the time and she is less than pleased with our bullying.
Purrs & Head Bonks,
Oliver, The Tribe of Five
I didn’t know your Mom was at BlogPaws, Oliver, I wish I’d gotten to meet her! I also didn’t know you could give the treats to cats…..I hope it helps with all of your issues there! ♥
Thanks so much for sharing this. Smoochie suffers from anxiety and some behavioral problems which come and go. I think this could really help but I don’t know if they’ll ship to the UK.
Happy Caturday
Basil & Co xox
Hi Basil!
I think if you check their website you will see under their contact info that they have an office in the UK. It might be worth contacting them to find out!
Thanks guys, it’s on my to do list fur this week!!! XOX
Let us know how you make out! xxoo
It’s great that the CBD oil is helping take the edge off some of Luke’s reactiveness and the compulsive component of his allergy licking. Great review.
Thank you! Luke has finally stopped licking completely and his fur is growing back in. I think the change in weather is what really did the trick for him, I credit the oil for getting him through until we got there.
Mama was gonna try da CBD oil fur her migraines. Right now Mama gives me Amazing Nutritionals Amazing Tumeric for Dogs and I has not had to take one prednisone dis summer which never happens so her is sold on dat stuff buts if it efur stops working her will definitely give da CBD oil a go. We wish like you dat we had tried dis fur Angel Ginger but now we know more so fingers crossed we both never has to go through dat again buts if we do we know what to try.
xoxo,
Matt (& Matilda)
Turmeric is so good too! That’s also said to be a cancer preventative. We were giving it to all the dogs when Sheba was ill but had stopped. I may look at the one you give. The one we used was pretty pricey.
I never heard of CBD oil for migraines, that is interesting too! I get them as well, and had mostly given up on finding anything that could really help. Luckily they’ve gotten a little better over the years.
I have the treats from the conference too – haven’t used them yet. I also thought about the oil for the allergies, but decided to first alter their diet. There’s so much out there for our pups to experience, I appreciate reading posts from bloggers like you that I can trust. I plan to share my treats with my neighbor. Thanks for reminding me. Keep us posted about Lukes legs.
It is true, I really love the fact that we have a lot of options, especially many that aren’t harsh medications. I would have gone to a diet change first too if I hadn’t suspected Luke’s were strictly seasonal.
Cooler weather has helped settle things down even more now, so I think his legs are on the mend, we just need that fur to grow back in before winter!
Living in Colorado where medicinal aids are big business, I can also attest as to CBD oils efficacy with anxious-ridden pets and seizure dogs. This stuff has been a godsend for Elsa’s seizures, confirmed by last week’s vet visit where she was super pleased with Elsa’s progress. It also helps Sam stay calm on long road trips. Continued good luck with both your fur-kids and I hope Luke’s legs heal up soon.
I am so glad that you’ve had success with this as well. Luke’s legs are healing up now, we just need that fur to grow back in (his fur is very thin on his legs anyway). I think the cooler weather we’re finally getting is helping too.
I’m so glad to hear that CBD may by helping. I give it to my 12 year old Boston Terrier every day and it has been helping him to get around better.
That is so great to hear! That’s exactly why I didn’t want to give up on it…I’ve heard so many positive stories.
Very interesting. We’ve been giving Daisy a half teaspoon of organic hemp oil along with organic turmeric and a priobiotic in her food since her back surgery, and we know they helped a lot with inflammation. It’s amazing how much her body loosened up and how she can do everything just like she used to before the surgery. Her surgeon didn’t think that would be possible, but it happened! 🙂 Glad Luke is benefitting so much from the oil.
I’m so glad to hear that it’s done so well for Daisy too!
This is interesting. As a pet parent, few things are harder to cope with than a terrified pet or a pet with pain. Bear Cat’s scared of just about everything (but me) – and it hurts me to see him on edge all the time. I think that you said about Luke and his itching is probably true of Bear as well. There was a point where he started over-grooming his belly. While I’m pretty sure I’ve eliminated the cause, he still over-grooms there – probably just by habit.
I think that animals that are prone to fears and anxieties are most likely also prone to obsessive behavior too.
You are so right, that it’s so difficult to see them scared of anything. I didn’t realize Bear Cat was quite that fearful.
I’ll never forget the time that Luke confirmed to me that his problem with strangers was totally fear-based. There were some workers leaving the house and I had Luke with me on the couch, holding on to him, while we talked for a minute. Luke was literally shaking like a leaf. Poor guy. That’s the other reason I keep him separated from people when they come over….even though it can be a good opportunity to work on things, I just don’t want to put him through even more stress. 🙁
Thank you for linking up to the Showcase!
Thanks for sharing your experiences with the CBD treats and oil. I’ve also read and heard from other pet parents that the oil seems to be more effective than the treats, although Harper Lee and Tallulah would definitely tell you that the treats are delicious. Happy to see that you saw improvements with Luke’s scratching and anxiety. If you decide to try the CBD oil with Cricket’s joints, I’ll be interested to read about those results.
Luke definitely loves the treats, and we are going to try the blueberry ones next. I have a feeling he’ll like those too. 🙂
I will definitely let you know if we try the oil for Cricket’s joint issues. I am thinking if it could help us back off her carprofen, that could be good, so we are seriously considering it.
It looked like these oil drops were for just dogs. Good for cats too? Daisy Mae has allergies and is usually itching except when she’s sleeping. Shared on LinkedIn. Liked your review.
There is a smaller dropper bottle for small animals, and yes, that includes cats! Dosage instructions are on the bottle, it goes by their weight. Good luck if you decide to try it, and thank you!
Oh, this is the post i’ve been waiting for. 🙂 Was worried reading early on that the treats didn’t seem to help, but sounds like the oil is definitely worth trying. As you know, we have some similar issues with Rita being overly protective when strangers (mostly men) come to the house so I’d love to try this. She also has terrible anxiety on long car rides and we’ve tried many different things but none of it has seemed to help. Will have to try this next time we go on a road trip. Thanks for the info!
You’re very welcome! I hope that this will help Rita out too! ♥
I am so glad to read that the Treatibles oil is working for you! I love their products so much that I became an affiliate so be sure to use BFTB when you check out to save 10%.
I just did an order and used your code – thank you!
That does sound like it has lots going for it and we enjoyed reading your review!
I liked it so much I shared it.
Thank you so much for sharing, Crystal!
We’ve heard lots of good things about the CBD products. So glad they seem to be helping Luke out.
it’s great that you saw some good changes…and I’m glad that Luke is much better now… thanks for a super honest review ;O)
You’re welcome!
