Autumn is winding down here in New Hampshire…..we had some beautiful foliage but it didn’t seem to last long, and the leaves are falling off the trees now. Here are a couple of photos I took. The tree is right in our yard, and my favorite. Cardigan Mountain, seen below, is in our town. The photo was taken from the other side of the mountain at the apple orchard where my sister and I went to pick apples. Baking pies and apple dog treats are in the plans for our long Columbus Day weekend!
BOOKS
As the days cool off, we might spend a little more time inside (plus we’ve had a lot of rain this last week). One of my favorite rainy day activities is reading. I don’t have a lot of time for reading anymore, but I still like to do some. Back in September I shared with you this book I had won. I was able to find a free Sunday afternoon to sit and read it, it’s not super long so it worked out perfectly. This book was very enjoyable, it is heartwarming and inspiring, and I definitely recommend it. *If you would like to order this book for yourself, please click here.
I am currently reading The Mystery of David’s Bridge on my Android tablet and enjoying that very much as well. Some of you may know the author Pamela, she also writes the blog One Spoiled Cat. You can find her book on amazon, and her cat Sammy will always let you know when they’re running a deal on it! It is a mystery with a touch of romance. The main character is a private investigator and her sidekick is her cat!
I recently received another entertaining book called Pastry for Poodles by Chef Fifi LeFay. Author John Morris is writing a whole series of “cookbooks” by different dog breeds. Each dog is a master chef for The Chow Network. This is the first in the series. It is short and sweet, with photos that will make you hungry! Fifi will make you laugh with her specific cooking instructions like “Pre-heat oven to PRETTY HOT”.
These books are meant to make fun gifts for all dog lovers. They’re not really cookbooks unless you like unusual things, like salmon oil, in your blueberry tarts!! Pastry for Poodles is only available for pre-order at this time on amazon.com, but if you would like your own copy now, you can enter to win one right here! We’re going to keep it simple….just indicate in a comment below that you would like to win and I will do a random draw for anyone who does so. You can learn more about these books by visiting the website Real Dogs Cook.
*Disclaimer: We received this book free of charge. Wag ‘n Woof Pets only shares products we feel will be of interest to our readers, and we are always honest in our reviews.*
I will also be giving away another copy of this book later this month. The end of October is an exciting time here at the “Wag ‘n Woof Ranch”. On the 25th, Sheba turns 10 years old, and on the 27th Luke turns 1! The 27th is also the date when Cricket joined our household 10 years ago. We’re planning a big paw-ty and giveaway, so stay tuned!
AWARD
On one final note, we want to thank Yoda the Pitbull and her Mom for passing on the Versatile Blogger award to us. We always appreciate being recognized by our fellow bloggers, and we were in very good company with our nomination. If you don’t already know them, please click here to visit Yoda and learn more about her and her Mom. Yoda is such a cutie and you might guess that her Mom is a Star Wars fan (which I am myself).
Don’t forget to indicate in the comments below that you would like to win Pastry for Poodles! *The giveaway will stay open for one week and is open to anyone anywhere!*
Thanks so much to Love is Being Owned by a Husky, and Ruckus the Eskie for hosting the Thoughtless Thursday blog hop….we’re happy to be joining in today.
I love to read too, but I have such little time…lol. I have been trying to make more time for it but now I am catching up on blog reading. 🙂 I cannot believe Luke is 1 already. Time sure flies!
I know. I used to read a book a weekend, now it’s a book every few months! I spend way more time reading blogs too.
Time sure does fly….we can’t believe Luke is going to be 1 already either!
I would like to win for pastry for poodles! Happy Thoughtless Thursday, Ruckus the Eskie
You are entered, Ruckus, good luck!
ohhh all the books look great, I would like to be in on the drawing for the pastry for poodles. Congrats on your award. If you don’t win the paracord collar on my giveaway we will work something out 😉 I should of thought about Luke being a puppy and the collar isn’t adjustable.
JoAnn, you’re awesome, thank you! I can’t tell you how much we love that collar and how bummed we were when Luke outgrew it!
You are entered in the giveaway!
We too have an over-abundance of apples at our house. We went a little pick-happy at the orchard…
I would love to be entered in your giveaway! I have a feeling my baking approach might be quite similar to Fifi’s. I have totally added salmon oil to Chewy’s cookies before. My mom came home and wondered why the whole house smelled like fish.
My sister and I picked a half bushel and split it. Just enough for a pie, some apple crisp, and some dog cookies I hope (and of course a few apple snacks for the humans and dogs).
You are entered in the giveaway!
Yay! You officially accepted the award! Fall is looking beautiful right now, especially from over here in the Dominican Republic where were on vacation right now lol…
Ah, vacation, lucky you! Hope you are having a great time!
Love it! Pls don’t enter me, I have EVERY book you have posted here 🙂
Caren, I think you are the queen of pet books, so I’m not surprised! 🙂
The cookbook looks great, I’d love to be your big winner! You said there’s a series? Can’t wait to see if he does a German shepherd one. And I too am a Star Wars fan (seriously, named my dog Jedi Mind Trick). Lastly, your pictures make me miss Maryland. The fall always makes me Maryland/Virginia. But then you guys start posting those horrible snow pictures and I remember why we moved to Florida.
You are entered in the giveaway! There is a list of books on the website, but I don’t see GSD on there (yet). Hopefully if the series does well he’ll keep adding books though.
I didn’t consciously name our dog Luke after THE Luke…but maybe it was subconscious. 🙂
Fall is the best thing about the northeast. If only the winter could be a little shorter….OK, a lot shorter. LOL
Gorgeous gorgeous photos Jan!!!! wow! Cute giveaway too! I would like to be entered 🙂 And a huge congrats on your award!!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Thank you, Jenna! You are entered to win the book….good luck!
Love your fall pictures. I’m continually amazed to find how much beauty every one has in their backyards.
Thank you, Pamela! We really are blessed to live in a beautiful place.
OMD!!! What a fabulous view! I am so completely envious of you. Those gorgeous trees should have stayed that epic for a bit longer. I’d love to have a copy of Pastry for Poodles. ☺
We are lucky to live in a very beautiful area, just south of the White Mountains of NH (also called the foothills of the Whites). We wish we’d gotten to enjoy the beautiful colors longer too! That tree in the photo is about half bare now.
Consider yourself entered to win the book!
Goodness our trees have barely turned yet sorry to hear your Fall is almost over with! Love Dolly
Uh-oh, I imagine that means we’ll be getting winter way before you do too! 🙂
xxoo
We just got a copy of Pastry for Poodles and are enjoying reading it.
I’m so glad you got one too….you’re always the first person I think of when it comes to poodles!
Hi Jan,What a surprise! Thank you so much for mentioning my book Heart to Heart, Hand in Paw! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Animals have so many ways of touching our hearts. I hope you don’t mind my mentioning that if anyone is interested in it, you can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/Heart-Hand-Paw-Through-Healing/dp/1462400779/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412877404&sr=8-1&keywords=heart+to+heart+hand+in+paw
You’re so welcome, Peggy! Of course I don’t mind you mentioning that, I totally meant to include a link, and I have updated the post now to include it. 🙂
We haven’t yet hit peak down here, but should within the next week or so. Then of course there will be a rain, wind (or god forbid) snow storm that will bring them all down and make way for Miss Winter. 🙂
Ugh, it’s really coming, isn’t it? LOL
We had a lot of rain this last week, and some pretty good winds too, so I think that’s part of the reason most of the leaves have come down already, along with the fact that they seemed to turn early.
WOW! Thanks for mentioning my Mom’s book AND we’re both really pleased that you’re enjoying it. We LOVE the Fall photos – your leaves are WAY WAY further along than ours…..we really still have a lot of green even on the maples which are turning colors VERY slowly this year.
Hugs, Sammy and Mom
You’re welcome, Sammy and Mom!
Our leaves turned really fast, and they were so pretty, but just so short lived! I can’t believe how different it’s been up here than down there.
