I have written the “10 Things I Love” about each of the dogs, and I did not forget our lone feline crew member Samantha. It’s been on my list to write, with an outline already started, and I was reminded of it when I planned her post for National Black Cat Day yesterday. She’s been on my mind a lot this week for other reasons too.
10 Things I Love About Sam:
- Her purring – of course. Who doesn’t love the sound of a cat purring? Sam’s is just the right volume, not too loud, not too soft – though it varies from time to time. As soon as you walk into a room where she is, she starts purring.
- Speaking of volume – her meow. Sam doesn’t have a loud yowling voice; she has a low volume scratchy meow. I call it her “Kate Jackson” meow. I probably just dated myself again, right?
- Her super soft fur. Even when I’m lax about brushing her, Sam’s coat is always soft. Her coat is more smoky than silky, in both texture and color.
Soft and smoky, with just a little bit of summer brown on her chest. - Her independence. Sam has always been kind of a loner, even when we had other cats in the house. I prefer to think of her as “independent”. She doesn’t do anything she doesn’t want to. If I want her to play with a toy or pose for a photo? Uh-uh, she won’t even look at the camera!
What camera? I’m busy here. - She can be silly sometimes. One of her favorite things to do is lick my feet when I’m in the bathroom (she’s a real licker by nature and probably would have made a great Mom).
- She also has a way of reaching her paw out when she wants attention. It’s so cute!
Pet me, please. - Speaking of cute, she’s not only cute but she’s beautiful. I love her big yellow eyes.
My, what big eyes you have, Miss Sam! - Her endless patience and adaptability. Sam has put up with a lot since we moved. It was a stressful time for all of us, but poor Sam had to spend time in a crate as well as being kept in very small rooms for a time. She seemed to take it all in stride. You might have thought her previous litter box issues were from that stress, but she had those issues at our old house too. We are past all of that, at least for now, thank goodness.
- Her tolerance of the dogs. Sam has never been a huge fan of the dogs, but I think our late beagle Kobi was always her favorite, probably because he was so calm and laid back. I have the most photos of her sitting with him, and I’m not sure I have any with the other dogs. When Luke is at the gate to her room barking at her, she just ignores him (I’m the one upset about it, not her).
Samantha and Kobi. - Sam’s a fighter. She’s had some serious health issues, including her hyperthyroidism, and they once thought, well over a year ago, that she might have some type of intestinal cancer. She overcame all that. Unfortunately, right now we’re worried about her. We think she’s losing her eyesight. We’ll be taking her to the vet tomorrow morning to find out what’s going on. We hope and pray her strength can get her (and us) through this challenge as well. All positive thoughts, prayers, and purrs are much appreciated.

If you missed our other “10 Things I Love” posts, here they are:
What do you love about your pet(s) – besides just about everything?
I’ve been very lax in reading lately, but I do hope Samantha is doing well and not losing her eyes sight. 🙁
You know how I love these, “I LOVE” posts. It’s so nice to get to know pets and their personalities.
What a sweet kitty face!! We love kitties!
Since we’re living in a trailer right now and things are so small, my mom is watching our two kitties for us – just until our new house gets built. It’s a lot of fun to visit them though, and they are doing great at grandma’s house!
Big kisses to Samantha! We wish our kitties liked to snuggle with the dogs.
We’re so glad for you that your kitties had a great place to go while you’re in transition!
Awe I hope Sam’s eyesight will be OK. 🙁
Sam reminds mom of her tortie Saffie, so independent but it’s what made her special. We hope that Sam can overcome this health issue and will be watching for news. Love Dolly
Samantha is one beautiful feline! Tucker and Jasmine tell us about a handsome black kitty named Buster that used to live at our house before Lily, Oliver and I (Alberto) came to live here. They said he was wonderful too. Happy to hear Samantha has overcome her health challenges. Sending meows from the Tribe of Five,
Alberto
Samantha is a wonderful kitty. I wonder if there’s something about black cat being lickers. My Raven is the lickiest cat I’ve had! Sam putting her paw out is adorable.
Paws crosses that her vision is ok.
I will be praying for Samantha, she is a beautiful kitty.
Thank you so much for your prayers, Ellen. Even though the news we got wasn’t the best, it definitely could have been worse. I’m not sure if you saw our update posted on Thanksgiving, but we will have a more thorough one after her next vet visit too.
What a black beauty Samantha is. The mom calls that kind of meow a “smokers meow”. Ernie’s meow is like that.
“Smoker’s Meow” – I love it, that is perfect!
She is a fighter! What a gal!
How lovely of you to share a little bit of Sam with us. Thank you!
She is beautiful. Purring and “making bread” are what I miss most about my cats. ♥
We’re so happy to learn more about Sam. She’s gorgeous … and she’s a cat (sorry, we’re biased) 😉 Sending all of you love and hoping for the best for Sam.
I’m back today because of the Showcase … and I just wanted you to know I loved reading the post again. It made me smile 🙂
Thank you so much for your love and well wishes for Sam, and for even stopping by twice! ♥♥
And a third time as one of my featured posts from the last showcase in this week’s showcase 🙂
Sending ‘pawsitive’ healing thoughts to your sweet feline fur-kid. ????
You guys are very special in mom’s heart
Lily & Edward
Sam is such a sweet girl! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that things go well at the vet. Soth does the stretching out a paw for attention thing, too. I always love that!
Such a beauty! We all send purrs and prayers her way and we hope the eye sight hold out for a long time!
She seems to be a super sweet kitty. I think for us it would be easier to post ten things that bother us about the cats!
that are 10 wonderful things… and there are much more things what make your Sam to a fabulous member of the wag n’ woof crew :o)
