Happy National Black Cat Day!
And don’t cats have lots of places to be! I just had this discussion with my sister via Facebook when I was trying to share a photo of her cat Nina with her. My sister is on a business trip and I’ve been helping care for Nina this week. She did not want to cooperate for a photo! This is the best I got:

This day is not to be confused with National Black Cat Appreciation Day and World Cat Day in August or National Cat Day in October! Let’s face it, cats are demanding a lot of attention, and who can blame them? They deserve it! Samantha also reminds me that I neglected to write posts on any of those other days, so she definitely deserves this one.
I tried to find out more about the story behind this day. The best I could turn up is that this day was started in Italy to allay superstitions and protect black cats. We’ve all heard that black cats are less adoptable, because of these silly superstitions surrounding them. Honestly, I find it hard to believe that people still really believe in all that nonsense, but I know some do.
Therefore, we’re always happy for an opportunity to remind people that black cats are no different than any other cats. Color has never been a factor to us when choosing a cat. I used to be partial to tiger cats like Cousin Nina, but when we got the opportunity to bring Sam and her sister Katie (who was black and white) home it never even occurred to me to hesitate for any reason.
We will be celebrating Samantha today, and every day, as always. Come back tomorrow when I will share “10 Things I Love About” her!
I didn’t know that there is a “National Black cat day” 😀 In some country, a black cat is a bad luck, but all I see is a beauty <3 I also want to have a black cat someday, they are so gorgeous. And it's fun to have a black cat in the house, who knows there is a cat if they lay in black clothes :p only their eyes will shine in the dark <3
Love black kitties, and partial to Samantha especially! Thanks for including Nina in your post, and of course for taking great care of her! If only you could have brought Samantha over to play…ha-ha!
Yeah….”play” – ha ha. Even if they could get along, Nina would have to show Sam what playing is all about. Probably, they both would have just been looking for food! LOL
That is a wonderful picture of Samantha.
I love black cats, I have 3.
Dang, I always seem to miss this special day but we all think black cats rock!
I love black cats and do not understand how anyone could be afraid of them.
We’re big black cat fans here!
Sam sends a “high five” to Ernie! 🙂
A gorgeous, floofy house panther 🙂
Happy Black Cat Day to one very ‘purdy’ kitty!
Mom loved her black cat Biene. She didn’t really like any of us dogs.
