It seems like no matter where I go, even without the dogs, it ends up being about the dogs and the blog. I just can’t ever seem to get either thing off my mind. I headed for a getaway with my sisters and girlfriends to York Beach, Maine this last weekend. We try to get to the seacoast at least once every summer, and we usually visit different beaches but York has always been a family favorite; we’ve all been going there since we were kids. One day I’d love to take the dogs to the ocean, but this time they were happily at home with the Dadz.
Unfortunately Saturday was mostly cloudy and cool so it wasn’t really a day to spend on the beach. Luckily Short Sands Beach at York has a nice little downtown full of shops and it at least wasn’t raining, so walking around the shops was a fun alternative. We love the shops there but we have one favorite: Beach Dog. There is so much fun stuff in there for pets and their people (they also have great stuff for kids and local beach souvenirs as well). Once I got in there looking around I was thinking about the blog and decided it would be fun to share some of this store with all of you.

If you’re ever in York Beach, Maine you definitely need to stop at this shop! Fortunately for those that can’t, they also have a website where you can purchase some of their fun items, and you can also find them on Facebook.
My favorite purchase of the weekend was actually found in a different little beach shop, but I just had to share it with you. Not only is this little purse adorable (don’t you think?) but the company gives back as well.
We did get to the beach on our second day. In typical New England fashion, Sunday was the complete opposite of Saturday; it was hazy, hot and humid. The beach was fogged in early morning which made for some interesting scenery. In the first photo below you see Nubble Lighthouse on the point, but when the fog was in (second photo) it kept fading in and out of the fog, and sometimes looked like it was floating in the clouds!
One fun thing about being at the coast is watching all the dogs that go to the beach. Most beaches on our coast are only open to dogs in early morning and late evening during the summer; and I loved sitting on our motel balcony or walking on the beach watching them. Do you gravitate towards other dogs and dog (or cat) related places when you go away from your pets…or do you always take them with you?
Sounds like a wonderful trip. Love the shop and the bag you picked up.
what a nice get away and cool store.
HA! Don’t fight it – embrace it, you ARE the blog LOL
LOL, you are so right, Cathy, why even fight it? 🙂

easy rider
Have fun, Easy, I hope you get the Lobster (that’s actually LobSTAH) if you’re from Maine…BOL!!
I seek out dog stuff everywhere. and take pics, too!
It had to have been painful to see all of that dog stuff and know you left them all behind. Hope you had fun despite the weather. We are off on an adventure too! Love Dolly
Yep, we are the same – even when Rita doesn’t come with us we end up going to dog-shops and checking out the other dogs. Sounds like a fun getaway! That store looks pawesome! And that purse!! So cute!
that is so much like some of the shops I saw when I was in Cape Cod in June!!!! They had some crazy good shops like yours!
I think there is just something special about New England seacoast gift shops!!
Haha – I find myself doing the same thing sometimes. I definitely don’t take Shiner everywhere with me, but I probably would have visited that shop too. Love your purse – it is too cute!
What a cool little shop! I’m afraid if I went there, I would spend a fortune since their logo dog looks a lot like Haley, lol!
Oh yes, my wallet would have been empty if I actually still had a black dog! 🙂
I can’t remember the last time we went on a vacation, with or without the dogs. I know it was before we got Ducky. I can’t leave the girls home with hubby cuz he’ll give them every bit of people food they want — and undo all the hard work I’ve done to get and keep their digestive issues under control — and I’d be miserable without them anyway.
The shop looks cute. When I was still living on LI, the guy I was dating and I used to go up to Freeport
and stay in a motel nearby with Kissy. We took her everywhere with us, including the little shops. She would sleep on the back seat of the car while we ate dinner in the restaurants, or while we shopped in the LL BEAN store late at night.
Now, believe it or not, I have never been to Freeport or the big LLBean Store! We don’t usually go quite that far North, though we did go right by it all the way up to Bar Harbor many years ago.
If I didn’t have the girls to go away with I would never go anywhere either. The hubby and I rarely vacation together anymore because of the dogs. My sister will stay if we take a weekend to go see the grandkids but that’s about all we do now. With Luke’s issues with strangers I’m not sure we’ll ever be able to have anyone but my sister pet sit, and she does actually have a life too. I’d have a hard time leaving them anyway.
If I could fit all my dogs in a purse i would take them every place with me. But they have outgrown any purse. I don’t feel bad leaving them at home with humans and each other. They at least pretend to have missed me and give me a happy dance when I get home.
I do love the greetings when I get home!
I would miss the entire trip because I would be in this store! I must go to their website. ♥ Thanks!
One of our poor friends is not really a pet person. She must have thought we were never going to come out of that store!! 🙂
Mom would spend lots of $$$ there
Lily & Edward
Wow, that looks like such a cool place!!!!
And yes, I know what you mean, everything always seems to be about the dogs and the blog!!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
I’ve made a promise to myself that I’ll STOP being a dog nutrition blogger when I’m just out and about, but it’s so hard. I saw a woman about to buy a container of chicken jerky treats at Costco yesterday and I hovered, waiting to jump in and warn her about the treats, but I held back and forced myself to walk away.
I turned and saw that she didn’t buy them “whew,” but it was hard.
I know what you mean about it always being about the dogs. I think we’re drawn to things that are about them or good fodder for our blogs.
It’s really hard to turn it off, isn’t it? 🙂
What a fun store! Mom wants to go there. Sounds like a fun weekend. Mom says her life has gone to the dogs. If it isn’t about the dogs, she probably isn’t interested.
It’s a good thing that store is not closer to me–I would spend a fortune in there! When I travel without the pets, I am like a kid in a candy store any time I see people out with their dogs and pretty much ask everyone I see if I can pet their dog. Luckily, on my last trip, I stayed with my aunt who has four dogs, so it was perfect 🙂
Imagine being at the BlogPaws conference without your dog. I felt like I was stalking some people and their dogs…but at least there, it’s always expected! 🙂
I just love it if I go to a motel or a store that has dogs or cats there. They instantly become my favorite places to stay or shop.
