We are happy to be joining our blog hop hosts SlimDoggy, Peggy’s Pet Place, and To Dog With Love. Please visit their sites and others through the links at the end of this post to learn more about keeping your dogs fit and happy!
A couple of weeks ago I told you that the pool was open and that we were getting into the swing of things with our spring workouts. I may have spoken too soon on one count! The weather has been nice enough to use the pool a lot. I had started walking Sheba more as well as jogging with Cricket. My hubby was taking Luke to obedience school and taking him out for walks to work with him on his training as well.
Then I had three days of serving on a jury, which threw my schedule into a turmoil, and I am SO BAD at getting back on track when that happens. Even my hubby, who usually is better than me, got off track.
We’ve been playing fetch just about every day, so the dogs are getting the exercise they need to burn some calories. However, I know that variety is important too, and other than doing yard work, I wasn’t getting any exercise either. My first jog of the season with Cricket was SO GREAT, I felt good and happy to be out there. I just don’t know why it’s so hard for me to get back on track. Every day I tell myself that I need to get my act together and get out there.
I’m happy to say I finally did that yesterday. I took all three dogs for separate walks of 25 minutes each. That meant I walked 3 miles myself. After we got back from that, I filled the pool and we played in the yard off and on all day. Now it’s not every day that I don’t have work, errands, or appointments, but on days like this I hope to keep doing this. Sometimes I might jog with Cricket, or I may try jogging with both Cricket and Luke. I haven’t walked Luke a lot because my hubby had been doing it, and we need to work together so I can train Luke as well (another area we slacked off on). I found Luke to be a pokey walker, stopping to sniff a lot, and graze on grass (both things exactly what our beagle Kobi used to do!). My hope is that he might move along better if he’s with Cricket, who doesn’t dilly dally at all. Or if I am jogging I hope he will want to as well.
Our vet has approved jogging with Luke, who just turned 7 months old this week. We were concerned about his growing joints, but our vet feels that keeping him slim and trim is the best way to keep healthy joints. My hubby has taken him jogging, but he only runs on soft surfaces and he keeps his runs shorter when he has Luke.

I hope to update you more on all of our activities (I have other things planned as well), now that I really think I’m back on track! Luke is just starting to be able to catch the ball now, and he spends more time waiting for the throw, instead of just trying to steal the ball and run with it when Cricket brings it back to me (he still likes to play keep away though). For now, I’ll leave you with some photos of the fun we had this week!

Speaking of pet health, we have been trying some new food as we have been part of Merrick Pet Care’s #BestDogEver campaign. There is a huge giveaway from Merrick, and you have until Saturday night to enter to win one year’s worth of dog food. If you haven’t seen my post, visit it here to enter.
Yesterday we received two bags of treats from Merrick that we were not expecting! There was a snafu in shipping the food to some of the bloggers in the campaign, so this was their way of thanking us for our patience. They have already been generous in giving us both dry and canned food to try, so this really wasn’t necessary. I have to say I am impressed with the company, and the dogs love the treats as well as the food!
Playing ball in the yard sure looks like fun. How lucky that you got some extra treats. 🙂
They just love to play ball so much! And they love treats too, so it was good news all around. 🙂
Glad you got back on track. Just love the fun photos. Have a great weekend
Thank you! Hope you are having a great weekend too!
Funny, I thought if we had two dogs, they’d exercise each other. Since that hasn’t quite happened, from time to time I think if we got the right third dog that he’d run Leo around the yard more than Mia does. Based on your hectic dog-exercising schedule, I’m guessing that’s a fantasy too!
Don’t feel bad about slacking off a little. We all do it, and you sound pretty committed to keeping those doggies fit!
Thanks, as long as I don’t give up completely, right?
We also thought having multiple dogs would make it easier to leave them home alone. They still are happiest to see us, just like they are happiest to have us playing fetch with them, or taking them for walks/runs. They play together some, but it’s hard to make them do that!
Hi Y’all!
I have a terrible time keeping my Human on track. When she has appointments and meetings and is gone all day our walks are short and if it’s dark outside or too hot and humid I don’t want to do much. However, when she’s home I get out twice in the morning for exercise and twice in the evening, once for a walk and a last bed time “relief” trip or “pee run”. Need I say I like it best when she’s home?
Y’all come back now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
I bet your human prefers to be home with you too, Hawk! It sounds like you have a good routine, most of the time anyway. We’ll have to move our workouts to early morning eventually too, when it ever gets hot.
Looks like everyone is having a great time playing with the ball! A good game of fetch or keep away is a great way to stay fit!
This crew will literally go for hours if we let them!
Looks like they’re all having a blast! We can’t wait to get out our kiddie pool for the season! Rocco was trying to play in his water bowl a little earlier! ha!
Diane and Rocco
Ha ha, Luke had been playing in the water bowl too before we got the pool out! And Cricket has been known to put her paws in the water dish to cool off if the pool wasn’t full!
What a happy, healthy family! Bailie just started running with Mom and does a good job. Yesterday I ran with them too. We are all pretty fast walkers as Mom doesn’t allow slow sniff walks. With three of us just like you guys, it is always mix and match with activities, 2 here, 1 there, all 3 another time. It is fun.
Thanks, Emma! Yes, we do need to work more with Luke on walking….I don’t like all the stopping. I accepted it with Kobi because he was so old, but Luke needs to do better! It is fun to switch it up with everyone doing different activities.
Aw so fun! I wish that Shiner would swim in a little kiddie pool like that, but I just don’t think she ever would. Of course, she’s happy to fetch a stick thrown into the lake so I think it’s just weird. Very nice of Merrick to send the treats. Definitely an unexpected and nice surprise for us too!
It’s funny too, because Sheba loves to swim in the lake, but she won’t lay down in that pool….she’ll only stand in it! Cricket lays right down to cool off.
I am exactly the same way when it comes to getting off track. I can be in a great routine for weeks and then one little thing throws it off. It’s always had to get back in the swing of things. I’m glad you’re finding fun ways for you and your dogs to stay active! Mine love the pool too 🙂
I’m glad it’s not just me! 🙂
I forget when we got the idea to get them a pool, but it was one of the best things we ever did. That way we can play more in the summer since they have a place to cool off.
Looks like everyone had a ton of fun!!! I love your photos!!!!
I have a hard time getting back on track as well.
I wish I could get out and do some jogging, I just can’t bring myself to do so. I walk with the dogs every day, but jogging…….*sigh* not quite there yet!
I hope to start soon, baby steps…
It’s great that your hubby jogs with Luke!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
One of the main reasons I started jogging was a time factor thing….you can accomplish much more in a shorter amount of time! Plus at the time Cricket was a tad overweight and I needed to up her intensity too. That was last year but I really did discover that I enjoyed it. You could start out just occasionally breaking out into a short jog when you’re walking.
They all seem to be getting a lot of love and attention. It is nice to be able to walk them separately. We take Bentley & Pierre at the same time or our neighbors would call to report an abused animal. If one gets to go out and the other stays inside, the crying and mournful wails are ridiculous! It sure looks like y’all have a great summer of fun ahead!
I know exactly what you’re talking about, because when I leave two behind they sometimes do that wailing and barking! I can hear them as I’m walking down the street…but it usually only lasts a few minutes (I often wonder what the neighbors think). I’d like to walk two at a time, but don’t feel right leaving one behind….but I still might try it sometime and see how they do.
Pawesome playtime! Wish I could join youwooooowooooooooo!
We wish you could too, Ku!!!
Jury duty throws everyone off! I bet the dogs are happy that’s over. Mr. N definitely was.
They sure are! It was the first time Luke had to be left home for longer days, though he did fine.
Glad you had so much time to spend with your dogs. Exercising with them is so fun. Benefits everyone. – Petnetio Anu
I dread to think what I’d be doing if I didn’t have them to get me off the computer and out the door!
Looks like everyone is having a blast despite the change in your schedule.
We do at least try to make the best of whatever we have to deal with, and have some kind of fun anyway!
Sounds like things have been busy at the Wag ‘N Woof household. I know how hard it is to stick to a schedule. Luckily Jack & Maggie are pretty good at insisting on that morning walk -so we never miss it. Just try and remember how good it feels 😉 Thanks for joining the Hop.
It has been busy, but I hope things are pretty settled down now. Thanks for the encouragement! Cricket will always remind me about playing fetch since that is her favorite activity. If I could just get her to do that for walks/runs too! Maybe if we do it more, she will!
They seem to be enjoying their fit time.
They do have a great time!
They look to be having a lot of fun in the pool.
Getting the pool is one of the best things we ever could have done for them!
