My hubby and I do, of course. Three of the best dogs ever, as a matter of fact! I suppose you probably think you’ve got the best dog ever……of course you do.

I was excited to be selected to join in Merrick Pet Food’s #BestDogEver campaign. I love their slogan, “The best dog ever deserves the best food ever“. I have heard nothing but good things about Merrick pet food and I was happy to be given the opportunity to give it a try. We weren’t unhappy with our current food. Over the years I have become more and more selective about what we feed our pets, so the latest food we’d been feeding scored high at websites that rank dog food. Merrick scored even higher……the highest rankings on both sites I check, as a matter of fact, for the variety that I selected to try.
Merrick actually has 125 dog food, cat food, and pet treat recipes, so there’s a lot to choose from! Their recipes are sourced locally with farm fresh ingredients to ensure the highest quality, and do not contain any ingredients from China. They are made with quality protein and healthy fats, with each product specifically formulated to give your dog the most nutritious food they can get.

I feel confident that my dogs will do well on a food made using natural and holistic recipes, knowing that it is manufactured in a five star kitchen in the USA where they uphold the guidelines set by the FDA.
I selected a grain free dog food to try. I’ve been wanting to try grain free for a while, even though I’ve been on the fence about whether it’s necessary and lives up to the hype it’s been given. I’ve read both sides of the story. Some of the advantages are said to be: less waste and shedding, less digestive problems, better breath, more energy, and fewer allergies. No, my dogs don’t currently have any allergies that we are aware of. But I feel they could develop allergies at any time, so why not avoid some of the things known to cause them? Grain free is said to be closer to the carnivorous diet dogs are meant to have.

However, we all know that the bottom line here is: do my dogs like it? We received the Real Pork & Sweet Potato recipe, and the dogs love it. I love that it is appropriate for all breeds of all ages, so we can feed the same thing to all of the dogs. It contains glucosamine for joint health and omega fatty acids for healthy skin and coat. We had to keep in mind that the calorie content is higher than our current food, so we recalculated the amount of food they should get. One thing that can offset the higher cost of grain free food is the fact that they need less of it. We won’t know right away whether grain free lives up to our expectations, and I’m not committed to feeding them only grain free at this point in time. I’ve heard it’s best to switch your dogs’ foods every so often, so this may just be one of many we try.

We tried Merrick at one point and time. It is a good healthy food that unfortunately did not really agree with our dogs so we had to change off.
That’s too bad, but I think there are quite a few good quality foods out there now too so I’m sure you found a good one.
Merrick is the BEST! Both of my dogs have allergy issues and switching them to Merrick grain free cleared up their skin problems… and they really think it’s delicious too!
I’m glad to hear from someone who loves Merrick! We are considering switching to it for both the dogs and cats.
Merrick is yummy food and gets pretty good ratings in our dog food database. But, come on – you know that I, SlimDoggy Jack am the best dog ever. 🙂
Well, I think Sheba at least agrees with that, Jack! 🙂
Actually, your database was the first place I looked before deciding to apply for the campaign!
My dogs would love to try Honolulu Luau canned dog food.
I didn’t even see that one on the list, but it sounds awesome, doesn’t it? Good luck!
I’m quite sure I have the best dogs ever.
But I could be wrong.
Only every other pet parent out there would disagree with you. 🙂
Cute post…and I think I am the best dog ever but Mom says every dog is the best dog ever. Wonder how you will like grain free. We thought of switching but our vet said since we each high quality food and have no issues we wouldn’t need grain free and if in the future we have any food issues we would have the option to switch to grain free. Who knows. The food thing is so complicated!
You are the best dog ever, Emma, right after my own dogs! BOL!
I know, the whole food thing is very confusing, and there is always two sides to everything so trying to make sense of it can be difficult. You’re wise to take your vet’s advice. Our vet is great, except for when it comes to the issue of food…he sells a brand I don’t like at his office, so we don’t discuss it much!
Even though I don’t normally eat kibble or canned food, Ma lets me have Merrick canned once in a while as a treat…because I LOVE it. And because she knows that Merrick is a high quality food sourced from the USA! We receommend Merrick to friends because we really believe in the product. Good luck to all the giveaway entrants…I have my share of Merrick from my Pet Parent Classified Ad post. BOL
Have a terrierific weekend!
Oz
The canned food looks like just like a homemade meal, so I can see why your Mom would make an exception with it, Oz. I am very impressed with their quality, and also with their generosity in this campaign.
You have a great weekend too!
Hmmm, I think the huskies would enjoy the grain free Buffalo and sweet potato.
I didn’t see anything that said U.S only, so hopefully i’m ok to enter from Canada?Let me know if I am wrong BOL!
Great post! Congrats for being chosen to do this!!!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
I’m sorry, Jenna, I had to look it up and realize I screwed up not putting in USA only. I’m going to fix that now.
Thank you so much, and sorry you can’t win. 🙁
no worries! Thanks for letting me know!
Are all the bloggers who are doing this using the same raffle copter? Because it said I already commented, but I hadn’t, at least not on this post. 🙂
Yes, Jodi, there is one rafflecopter for 10 different blogs doing these posts. So you must have entered somewhere else?
There is another giveaway on several blogs for a month’s worth of food as well. If you haven’t seen that one I can let you know where to find it….Emma GBGV and Oz the Terrier are a couple.
Great post and great dogs!
Thank you!
Shiner loves the food she got to try too. I’m really pleased with Merrick! I didn’t check the “rankings” or whatnot but I think I’m going to because I’m curious now.
I think you’ll be pleased with the info you find out there, Ann. I am very impressed with the company, and especially how generous they are being with this campaign.
I think the boys would like the Grain free Chicken and Sweet Potato formula.
I’m sure they would!! Good luck in the giveaway and thanks for coming by and entering!
