I’m accustomed to seeing this: the girls out relaxing on the deck or patio, while I’m inside the house.
This, however, is completely new:
I don’t think I ever saw Luke do this at the old house. He was either roaming around the yard if he was outside, or he was in the house with me.
What has changed, I wonder? I had three different ideas:
- He is growing up and acting more maturely, learning to relax, even on his own.
- He is that much more at home in our new home than the old.
- At the old house, the only place he could lie and see into the house was on the deck. If he went down in the yard there, he couldn’t see into the house because our main living level was raised. We now live on one level, and wherever he lies down outside, he can see into the house if he needs to (notice he is facing the house). He seems to prefer lying in the grass than on the patio or deck like Sheba.
I had to take the photos through the screen so as not to disturb him, but I was actually surprised that he stayed right there when I went out with my camera. He got even more relaxed!
I actually think it’s probably a combination of all three things, but I do hope this is a sign that he is relaxing some, and that perhaps he’ll learn to relax more in other situations as well. Either way, it’s definitely a sign that our boy is growing up!

It’s great to see Luke so relaxed in his new yard! I think it’s a combination of all those things. Sam had built a huge doghouse for Callie before we brought her home from the breeder and she loved to lounge on its front porch. Unfortunately, over the years, the wood warped and rotted so we had to tear it down; but Callie adapted easily to any situation and learned to love lounging in the grass, too.
A dog house is one thing we’ve never had! How sweet that Sam built one for Callie. Luke has taken now to also lying on the deck that surrounds the patio. It’s just so great to see him comfortable in many different places now!
So nice not have to worry about them in the yard.
He sure does look relaxed!
I LOVE it! Delilah lays out in the sun like that and it makes me so pleased to see her relaxing. Whatever is working, keep it up!
It’s nice to know that he’s happy there – just as all of the rest of you are…………you’re all truly AT HOME!
Hugs, Sammy
It’s so true, Sammy! There’s just something about this place that feels right, and we just all feel it and love it.
that has to make you feel fabulous seeing him so content!
I think you might be right, maybe it’s all three things and he looked so happy when you joined him outside.
I believe you’re on to something Jan. I believe he IS growing up – and he IS becoming more confident and comfortable in his new home.
Yay for growing up! Looks like a nice place to nap!
We think Luke is really liking his new home and yard.
Yay for relaxation and dogs growing up!
I am so happy that he is settling into the new home so quickly. The boys always want to be able to see inside or outside of the house.
Zen Luke! It still surprises me how much Mia likes hanging out in the backyard. Every once in a while, when I let Leo out at night, he’ll just lie down on the back deck, but usually he’s in a hurry to get back to the people.
What a wonderful thing to see! We’re always concerned about how our pups will react to new surroundings because some experience such anxiety, but your smart guy is discovering all the best new things about his new home. That’s really wonderful. 🙂
He does look relaxed 🙂 It’s funny how dogs have preferences of the surface they like to lay on. Shiner does not like to be left outside alone. She freaks out if I leave while she’s on the tie-out for just a minute lol.
He certainly seems to be completely relaxed.
That’s great he is able to relax! I bet he just loves his home.
A great place to communicate with the mother ship.
Great photos, he is a cutie.
Looks like a nice yard to be a dog in!
Maybe some buddy found a peaceful and relaxing new spot

Yay Luke! I love hearing that he’s adjusting so well to the new house. I can’t imagine Barley ever deciding she’d be ok with relaxing outside while I’m inside, but our fence is almost installed, so time will tell!
Luke is definitely growing up! But the sunshine always makes me very relaxed too so it could be a combination! Love Dolly
