Attention lab lovers, senior lovers! This week I am featuring a pair of sweet and beautiful black labs. Lexi and Buddy have been together for 8 years and need a new home together.
UPDATE – THESE TWO HAVE BEEN ADOPTED!!!
Their story is rather sad. They were rescued from a southern shelter by New England Lab Rescue, where they had been picked up as strays. Once in the care of NELR it was brought to their attention that these two once had a loving home. Their family had gone through a divorce, and ended up with the husband of the pair. They went missing for several weeks and he did not want to find them or get them back. The wife did find out they were in the shelter, but she was not in a living situation where she could take them back either.
Lexi is 11 years old, and Buddy is 9-10. They are both well mannered, loving, and do well with cats and children. Lexi had a broken leg which was not properly cared for, and therefore has a limp and arthritis in that leg. But she is improving quite well with medications. Buddy is heartworm positive but his treatment has already been started.
More details about Lexi & Buddy:
- both are spayed/neutered
- housebroken
- large dogs, 60-100 lbs.
- easygoing

A little about New England Lab Rescue: They are a non-profit 501c3 organization established in 2010, and based in Maine. They rescue labs from southern shelters and bring them to New England and the east coast to find homes. They have placed approximately 1500 labs to date. Find them on Facebook, where they have almost 17,000 followers! You can also find their adoption and foster applications there.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to find a happy home for this loving senior pair to live out their lives in?

Oh, jeez. Every dog deserves to live out their days with a loving family. This just breaks my heart. That second picture of them grinning like fools? Heart melting!!
They certainly do deserve better, and it really is heartbreaking. They have so much love to give!
I always hate hearing about seniors back in shelters. Here’s hoping they find a perfect home together soon!
Me too. I just can’t imagine people who just let their dogs go like that, after having them for so many years.
They are such a cute pair with quite a sad story… will share them!
Thank you, Ann, I hope their story ends up with a happy ending!
Poor Lexi and Buddy! I hate when seniors are needing to be rehomed! Look at those sweet faces. They need to be kept together and it sounds like they will be.
Will share!!
I agree they need to be kept together, it sounds like that’s the only way they will let them go. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for sharing, Sheba!
What beautiful dogs – I do hope they can find a forever home – seniors are full of love and deserve to live out their days surrounded by it!
Kitty Hugs, Sammy
Thank you, Sammy, I agree. No senior pets should have to be in a shelter.
