The theme for this week’s #52Snapshots of Life photo challenge is “Thankful” and today seems like the perfect day to share something we are thankful for. Of course, there is so much to be thankful for….home, family, food, health…but today I am focusing on our two senior girls. These two grew up together, but I wouldn’t always describe them as “close” – they tend to be independent, whereas Luke is the more clingy one. But this photo tells a different story:
I’m thinking about this especially lately for two reasons:
The girls are both 11 years old now. 3 of our first dogs only lived to the ages of 6, 5, and 8. Our beagle Kobi lived past 13 and that was truly a blessing, as is still having these two with us. We lost Sheba’s littermate Moses to cancer at only age 8, and now that she is a cancer survivor it feels like even more to be grateful for.
However, Sheba has to go in for surgery next week to have another lump removed. It’s not all bad news; though the lab could not determine exactly what this lump is from the needle aspirate, they do know that it is NOT the spindle cell sarcoma like the lump she had removed earlier this year. This lump is also much smaller than that was so we hope that means the healing will be easier this time, with far less stitches to worry about. My close friend Sheryl also reassured me that Sheba is in great shape and healthy, and that will help her to get through this easily. I just hate that our girl has to have another surgery, her third within one year (the first was a growth on her eye that turned out to be nothing). I also of course worry about what this lump is. Sheba is a trooper, and I imagine keeping her quiet afterwards is going to be the biggest challenge. She feels and looks great, she is active and happy, and I take all of that as good signs.
We’ll worry about that next week. Today is for being thankful for what we do have. We’ll be with family for dinner and I have a trip this weekend to look forward to that will be a great distraction (more about that tomorrow).
We also want to thank everyone for their supportive comments when I first told you about Sheba’s lump earlier this week. We just need you to keep those good thoughts coming for a while.
We hope that all of you have much to be thankful for, can put your own worries aside, and that you enjoy your day however you choose to spend it!
Thank you to the The Lazy Pit Bull for hosting the#52Snapshots of Life photo challenge. Are you joining in the fun? Photos can be shared via blog or social media, just use the hashtags #52Snapshots and #PBSG.
I am so far behind. I guess it will be Christmas before I can actually catch up…lol. I love the picture. I hope Sheba’s surgery went well (I am assuming it is done by now).
I’m hoping the surgery is over, that Sheba came through it with flying colors and that it was nothing to worry about. It gets so hard as they age, I find myself worrying about EVERYTHING. 🙁
I hope Sheba came through surgery with flying colors! Such a cute photo of the two of them sound asleep and snuggling.
Sheba’s surgery did go well, thank you, though it was more extensive than it was first thought it would be. Now we wait and see if we are dealing with cancer or not. But she is recovering well and feeling great, so that’s the important thing right now!
Sending those potent healing purrz to your girl.
Will keep you and Sheba in our thoughts next week. All 4 paws will be crossed for a good results and a speedy recovery! Love Dolly
We are praying for Sheba that the surgery is simple and it is just a benign lump. All the waiting is the scariest part.
I have been “AWOL” lately too. Just now seeing the news about Sheba. Sending love, prayers, and positive vibes for a good outcome. <3
I'm taking Shadow to the vet later this morning for a variety of reasons. She's been a little gimpy and stiff lately. Hoping it's just her arthritis. But she's also being difficult again about eating at times, and I want the vet to aspirate a few of her bumps/lumps again. It may be just that I'm hyper-paranoid after Callie's cancer diagnosis, but I'm not taking any chances.
Have a GREAT weekend!!
We all have much to be thankful for. We’ll be thinking of Sheba and hoping that all goes well with her surgery.
We are definitely thankful for your friendship! I hope everything goes well with Sheba. She will be in our prayers. ♥
