Today is Remember Me Thursday®, a day created by Mike Arms, President and CEO of Helen Woodward Animal Center in California to raise global awareness of pets in shelters and rescues needing forever homes. Virtual candles are lit in memory of those that sadly never got that chance. In their fourth year, this campaign has reached 164 countries and over 500 shelters have participated. Over 40 celebrities have signed up to be “luminaries” this year!
Today’s goal is to spread the word across social media and around the world to bring more of those orphans to loving homes. We lit candles in honor of our late shelter pets, our dog Shelby and cat Conrad. Shelby was my very first dog but was not with us for as long as we would have liked. She died at only the age of 6 from lymphoma. Conrad enjoyed a good long life with us for 16 years. But no matter how long or short their lives might be, every pet deserves to spend that time in a home filled with love.

What can you do? Visit the Remember Me Thursday website where you can light a candle for shelter and rescue pets of your own, or in honor of those still waiting for their homes. Add your photo to their #RemembertheRescue wall and be entered to win food, toys, and funds for your favorite shelter or rescue. Share your own photos or one of theirs to social media to spread the word, or perhaps you’d like to share adoptable pets from your own local shelter or rescue.
Luke asks that you spread the word so that more former orphan pets like him can be blessed to find their own forever home full of love!
I hope many pets found a home and continue too.
What a great post to help spread the word.
This is such a fantastic post! So important to spread the word!
We purr for all those animals waiting in shelters for their forever homes…and those that sadly never made it out. 🙁
Great reminder post!
What a nice post. We have always adopted rescue cats, and mom’s first dog was a shelter dog. Hopefully many more orphans will find homes.
We are also joining in #RememberMeThursday ♥
