I brought Samantha outside the other day to (hopefully) take some photos of our black cat next to the pumpkins for Halloween. You can see how that went:

I didn’t have her harness and leash on, but decided to let her adventure forth a little bit without them. Since she’s mostly blind, she plods around pretty slowly, so I wasn’t too worried that she would run off (but I kept a close eye on her). It hadn’t occurred to me that she hadn’t met the guinea hens yet, except for when they were in their cage. They are very curious birds, so they ran right over to check her out!

They were a bit unsure, and kept a close eye on her as she wandered around a bit. She didn’t really pay them much attention, but eventually started to head their way.

They were a bit more unsure at that point, and they kind of look like they’re debating what to do!

They kept their distance but didn’t run away (and they pretty much do the same thing with us, so I told Sam not to take it personally). I think she enjoyed meeting them, and she did also pose very nicely for some photos, even though she wasn’t actually right next to the pumpkins like I wanted!

It’s so nice that you got Samantha outside for some fresh air! Pretty cool how the guineas were with her… π Excellent pictures, too.
Thanks, Sheryl! I need to get her out again soon, before we have snow on the ground. She probably wouldn’t be any more impressed with that than we will. π
Those guinea hen pictures are fantastic! They have so much personality. I love the last photo, too–perfect fall scene!
Thank you! It is a nice fall photo, even if not exactly what I wanted. π
The guinea hens are so curious, and so much fun!
It was a great idea for a photo! Samantha looks like she really enjoyed getting to explore your yard a bit. It is so funny that the birds were that curious about her! You would think they would run off. She must have been really curious about them too. Samantha is a cutie pie!
Thank you! Sam didn’t seem quite as interested in them, when she’s outside she mostly just wants to eat grass. LOL! Guineas aren’t known to be overly friendly, but ours sure are (unless you try to pick them up, they don’t go so much for that!).
Oh, Samantha looks like me. Maybe we are related?! She posed purr-fectly in front of her house! Looks like it was a pretty day for her to venture outside. I would love to have chickens of my own & be able to go outside! Mew Mew!
She does look a lot like you, Valentine! Maybe you are long lost cousins! We hope to have more perfect days this fall for Sam to get outside, because she probably won’t want to venture out once there’s snow on the ground (and who can blame her?).
Sam looks so sweet by those pumpkins!
She really gave me some nice poses once I got her to pick up her head and quit eating grass! LOL
Oh, those pics are so cute! You can practically see the thought bubbles over the hensβ heads! They look so curious! (I guess curiosity only kills cats??) π
I hope so, for their sakes, because they are very curious birds!! π
Ah, what a great adventure Sam had (and the guineas!), and the pics are just so wonderful to see! So glad I had some Sam time this past weekend, she is THE most loving thing (well, ok, or maybe she is just demanding to be patted the whole time you are with her, for her own happiness, ha-ha!). But Jan, you know in some of those pictures, it could be the light, but she reminds me of Bear-color wise-where they usually appear black, but have some brown tones in there too that show up in the light! Either way, she is a beauty, and by the way, if those are Your pumpkins, they are super!
You are right, Lynn, she does have those same brown tones that Bear used to have! It has been especially noticeable this fall.
I’m so glad she got to have some company last weekend, I know she enjoyed it a lot!
Who would have thought the two species could exist together like that. Thanks for capturing this.
I never would have thought of cats and birds going together, that’s for sure!
Nice to see Samantha, she is a beautiful kitty.
Thank you, Ellen1
What a fun adventure for Samantha. Had that been us…we woulda been all over those birds. π
Sam has always been a very mild-mannered girl. Some of our past cats probably would have reacted much more like you! π
I’m glad Samantha was able to get out and roam around. If she’s within 50 feet of the desired prop (the pumpkins), that is close enough according to the cats handbook. I love the pictures.
Well, I’m glad we did OK by the handbook then! The pictures did come out pretty, I think, even with the pumpkins just in the background. π
Glad she got out. Sorry you didn’t get a picture of the black cat beside the pumpkin but you got some nice pictures. Joined your blog hop.
That’s a beautiful photo of Samantha! So funny about the hens, in her younger days they’d be running! Sorry I’ve been so absent but I do try to take a glimpse of your posts to keep up with what’s going on. Sandra and Dolly
Thank you! Oh yes, you reminded me how right you are about Sam. One time at our old house she escaped outside and raided a nest of baby robins! π
I know you’ve been very busy, Sandra, so totally understand! We were a bit absent ourselves for a little while, as far as visiting others. I’m still trying to catch up!
What a wonderful stroll. She got to get out and about and meet new friends too.
Yael from Playing In Catnip
It was a good day! Thank you for stopping by, Yael!
Such a cute model for the entryway. Even if a bit of a diva by not posing on her mark. π»
Cats do like to do things their own way! π
You are so lucky that they all cohabitate so well! The Bayou Boys would lose their ever-loving minds!
Sam is the calmest of our crew. Cricket is OK with the birds too, but Luke…..we keep him separated!!
What a sweetheart Samantha is! I think their first meeting went very well, and the pictures are great!
Thank you!!
It looks like you had a fun time meeting the birdies, Samantha–and you got kind of close to those pumpkins! π
She was right next to the pumpkins for a bit, but she had her hind end towards me, or her nose on the ground – you know what that’s like I’m sure! She might have done better posing next to the guineas if I’d tried that! π
One thing about senior pets is you can give them much more freedom because they are not so wild and crazy, nor are they real fast. I’m sure she enjoyed meeting them.
I think she had fun, and I’ll be able to take her outside more without using the harness and leash.
the tail was a statement for the guniea girls , right Samantha?
