Luke sometimes amazes us with how observant and smart he is. I often spend time looking out the windows, checking for wildlife, either the fox we don’t want to see, or the wild turkeys and deer we love to see. Somehow, this dog knows when we see something, even if he can’t see it himself. We are careful not to let on; I’ll usually just quietly tell the Dadz if I see something, and we try so hard not to make a big deal out of it. But he knows….and if I go and take the binoculars out of the drawer? He really knows.

If we’re enjoying watching something, we don’t want to let him out. Not that he can get to whatever is out there, he has his fenced-in yard; but if he barks and runs along the fence he’ll scare it away. On this particular evening, we saw six deer out at the edge of the woods, and poor Luke was not happy that we wouldn’t let him outside. He was making so many funny noises with his whining and carrying on, that I had to take some video. There are four clips in the video, and by the time it gets partway through the second one, the deer have moved closer into the yard and he could now see them. I think you can tell by watching him exactly when that happens. By the third clip, he really starts making some crazy sound effects, so turn up the volume and enjoy his silliness.

He’s adorable. I don’t know if I ever wrote about it or not, but Delilah once had a ‘stand-off’ with a deer at our fence. I missed it (thank goodness!) but Hubby said she was on one side barking and the deer was on the other pawing his foot!
I’m glad you give the deer a warning. I do the same when I see them on our walks. π
I think I remember reading that story. Deer seem so mild-mannered, but I wouldn’t want to mess with those hooves! π
OMD! If we had a door or window that Ducky could see out of, we would NEVER have any peace! As it is, she barks at small tree branches rolling off the roof, leaves floating past on a breeze, and squirrels munching on the sunflower seeds in the birdseed we put out every morning! ππ
Between the outdoors and the TV, Luke is a very busy boy, trust me. What is peace? LOL
BOL I would be chomping at da bit to so I could bark at those deer π
(We both perked up when Mama played the video and Tilda went and hid BOL BOL BOL)
xoxo,
Matt (& Matilda)
Only dogs get it, right, Matt? BOL
xxoo
Luke
Sounds like you got Luke cable π
Heehee. Don’t worry, he watches TV too.
The Bayou Boys feel your pain, Luke! We saw our first deer on a walk in the neighborhood this fall. They were amazed!
That is pretty cool, and so exciting for the boys!
Poor Luke, that same stuff happens at my house and we too can’t let the gang out until the deer leave.
I can only imagine how loud it gets if all of yours carry on like that! LOL
Poor Luke, he wanted to play with the deer π
Wouldn’t that be fun!
What a great title! Luke is very expressive. I love the video, and so did Hachi who is sitting on my lap. We have the same problem with our dogs ruining all the fun when wildlife comes within view of the house. We try to be similarly sneaky⦠But for them, the big signal is when I get my camera with the long lens! Thanks for sharing !
They are just so observant, aren’t they? Even if you think they’re not paying attention to you….they take every detail in and remember it!
So glad both you and Hachi enjoyed the video. β₯
Live the wagging tail!
He’s so excited to get out there, he’s a happy boy, even when he has to wait!
Poor Luke, missing out on the deer time fun but we enjoyed hearing your telling them about it Luke!
And in no uncertain terms!! π
Awww, he’s wanting out to run off those intruders. It’s his job you know.
I linked this post to Awww Mondays.
Have a woof woof day, Luke. My best to your peeps. β₯
It IS his job, you’re right! How could we keep him from his day’s work? π
while watching your video we totally agree… let da dogs out ;O)))… btw: da nelly is upstairs now to look for the dog he heard…but I have some doubts that he will find you in our bathroom BOL
BOL! Good try though, Nelly!!
That is too funny. Torrey always alerts us to critters outside.
You probably see a lot more than we do too! That must keep Torrey busy. π
I wish that I had a door or window low to the ground like yours so that I could keep watch like you do, Luke!
Oh, we wish you did too, Molly, it’s more fun than you can even imagine!! π
We do the same thing, but for squirrels or wabbits. The other morning we went wild but there were coyotes going down the road. We don’t like them in our neighborhood. Good job protecting everyone, Luke.
Oh, I can just imagine what Luke would do if he saw a coyote! He’s like that for squirrels too (but we let him chase them as long as our birds aren’t in his yard). The squirrels have mostly gone MIA this winter though, I guess because I haven’t been feeding the wild birds. The neighbor does, so they must hang out there. It’s less running to the door for me anyway! π
Luke thanks you for your understanding, Madison!
