In the winter I wear gloves, of course, but even in the summer I wear gardening gloves when playing with the dogs. With our yard being smaller, I don’t use the chuck-it as much, so I like to have gloves on for picking up and throwing the wet, slimy, often dirty, ball!

Luke has a thing for my gloves, he just loves them. If he sees me take one or both off, he comes running over to me and tries to steal them. If he succeeds, he gleefully romps around the yard with it, and it’s even more fun for him if I chase him down.

As long as he doesn’t stop and chew on them or destroy them, I sometimes let him have his fun. He doesn’t retrieve the ball as much as Cricket does, so I figure it’s good exercise for him!

On this day, I deliberately put the gloves in my pocket and left them sticking out a bit to entice him. He’s been known, especially in the winter, to come right up to me and stick his nose in my pocket if he sees me put a glove (or tissue, or ball) in there. I thought it would be fun to finally catch him on camera in the act!

I love the silly looks he got on his face as he slowly snuck them out of my pocket.

If I don’t chase him down, he’ll just leave them on the ground, so if I really need them I know just what to do!

As soon as I started towards him, he picked it up and started running. It’s just another little game we play. 🙂
Haha great captures, gambler picks my pockets too for gloves
HA! So let me see, the Chuck-It is just a “pre-curser” to the glove game? Dogs are so innovative.
We all stop and sniff gloves we find on walks. Mom thinks it comes from our tracking practice, but otherwise, we prefer to steal dirty undies from the laundry!
Ah yes, the dirty undies – we’ve had that thievery too! I wonder if Luke’s penchant for gloves will help or hinder him if we ever try tracking? 🙂
ha-ha, so cute!! what a lil’ pickpocket!
That is too funny 🙂
Oh the games we play, Luke is really good at them! Love Dolly
I love the photos, catching the pickpocket in the act!
That’s the only way my dog will play fetch with me. She loves my gloves.
Maybe more people who say their dogs won’t play fetch just aren’t using the right tools (gloves instead of balls!). 🙂
Bentley has always been a glove thief! I wear gardening gloves and if I set them down, he will have one in his mouth within a minute. I wonder why they love them so much.
I know, I’m not sure what the attraction is! Even if I bring mine in the house and set them up on the counter, Luke will steal them from there too!
He is like Dakota, in the winter Dakota LOVES stealing gloves out of pockets and he also LOVES to take tissue out of pockets too!
Does Dakota like to eat the tissues as well? They are one thing Luke will rarely give back….a favorite snack….BOL!
Way to go Luke! The glove hunt sure is fun!
I love these kinds of games. It makes me think that maybe we don’t need billions of different expensive and high-tech toys for our dogs–maybe just cardboard boxes, gloves, and skanky tennis balls.
They’re trying to teach us to think outside the box, but we humans can take a while to catch on. 🙂
Aw, that’s cute! It is funny the things they will pick to play with sometimes! And the looks they give us when we pretend to be indifferent! ????
They must get so frustrated when they think that we might never just catch on!! LOL
Us cats and dogs make toys out of the funniest things, don’t we?
And we humans are still foolish enough to keep spending money buying toys! LOL
Isn’t it funny the things they enjoy doing? Sometimes when Sampson is feeling great, he will take a toy. Last week he ‘slapped’ me with it three times before I got the message. 🙂 Of course, his runs can’t be long, but we can do little tosses in the house.
It takes us humans a while to catch on sometimes. 🙂 At first I’d just always try to get the gloves back from him, but then I figured out we could have fun with it!
BOL hide them Luke
Lily & Edward
Let the chase begin, clever boy! 🙂
Lol..what a funny boy. He’s playing with you.
aaaah that#s Phenny’s favorite game too…. it drives me crazy, because I have to buy them back with treats…. ;O)
I’ve used that trick to get them back as well! 🙂
