We finally got a break in our frigid temperatures last week and we’ve been able to spend more time outside having fun in the snow! When we’re outside, beagle Cricket is all business – it’s all ball play all the time. Luke plays ball some, but he often has other things on his mind. He’s usually keeping an eye around the yard watching for intruders (there’s been a lot of squirrel intruders around since a lot of our snow melted, and he even saw four deer walking up the road yesterday morning).

You might think that would keep him busy, but Luke is an opportunist and never misses a trick. Regular readers know that Luke has a penchant for stealing my gloves or mittens, and he doesn’t make any exceptions just because my hands might be cold. When I fumbled getting my gloves on when coming out the door, he was right there ready to take advantage:
I will let him play with my gloves until he starts chewing on them, then I have to get them back (nice warm gloves are not cheap!). Please excuse the bumbling of the camera person in the video, I’m not yet good at juggling camera, ball, and gloves at the same time….you may have noticed that I had dropped my other glove by the time we were done!
What do your dogs like to do out in the snow?
Looks like a woofin’ good time! If it were snowy cold down here I am sure I would be stealing my Mama’s gloves too since they does look a lot like stuffies 😉
xoxo,
Matt (& Matilda)
Oh, you’re so right! Now I understand the fascination! (and Luke says to tell you that you certainly would, Matt, and you would have so much fun!) xxoo
Silly dogs Luke is so cute running around with your glove! It warmed up here enough to go for short walks then when all the salt was gone we made it to the park for only the second time since before Christmas. Now we had several inches of snow so there’s a lot of salt out there. No walks for us unless Dolly wears her booties! Sandra and Dolly
It’s been a challenging winter, that’s for sure! We haven’t had a walk for over a week now…the snow is too crusty and I don’t want anyone hurting a paw (boots don’t go over too well around here either).
My wife’s dog, a cockapoo, loves to roll in the snow. It’s so funny and cute.
My other dog, a pit/golden mix, would much rather stay inside where it’s warm. Unless there’s a squirrel to chase!
Cricket loves to roll in the snow too. And our late beagle, Kobi, sounds exactly like your pit/golden mix. He wanted to be indoors, but if you said the word “squirrel” he was all over it! 🙂
What a funny duo! Luke looks so proud of his find … and Cricket demanding you toss the ball again IMMEDIATELY … too much cuteness!
I love how they each have their own personalities, and their own ways of making me smile.
Oh my gosh, that was the cutest video ever! Not sure who was better, little miss Cricket demanding her ball tosses or Luke shaking the glove. So adorable.
They both do their best to keep me entertained, each in their own way! 🙂
We don’t play outside like your crew does, all of our exercising is walking, but they love to do that! Sampson likes it when it’s very brisk, and if it’s snowing, or there is fresh snow, all the better.
Glad your crew got to be outside, enjoying the decent weather.
These two do enjoy a good walk too. But Cricket still wants to play ball after walking! Some days we just can’t “do it all”!
I’m glad the weather finally broke and they could have some snow fun.
They are predicting 2-3″ of snow here overnight. They have already canceled school and are asking people not to get on the roads. Hahaha! The south does not do snow.
I actually wish they’d shut everything down here when it snowed, even a little bit! I hate driving in it, but around here you’re considered a wimp if you don’t! :/
How interesting that they both act differently when outside.
They are really polar opposites in personalities!
It’s nice to see them having some snow fun!
Looks like everyone was having lots of fun and a good romp.
It’s harder to get Luke moving than Cricket, so sometimes I have to sacrifice my glove to get him some exercise! LOL
I do my perimeter patrol and then head back in. My sisters play, and play, and play until they freeze or Mom calls them. We have about 5″ of fresh powder to play in today.
You remind me a lot of our beagle Kobi, Emma! He did the same thing….perimeter patrol, and he was good!
If there’s a squirrel in the yard, it’s game over for Rye. She’ll stay under the tree watching that squirrel until it moves–and then she just relocates to be wherever it goes. Barley mostly likes to sniff around, but if we’re out there just the two of us, she loves to chase a soft, stuffed toy around the yard. I’m glad that you all got to go out and enjoy some winter weather–I hope it was warm enough that you were ok with a missing glove!
Yes, it was one of the few days where I could manage without my glove for a bit! Our squirrels vacate the area when we’re outside, but Luke is still easily distracted by….anything else. 🙂
Looks like Luke had a lot of fun with your glove! Hope you didn’t get frostbite 🙂
Luckily it was one of our warmer days (meaning, above zero – LOL)!
Shadow is like Cricket – very happy to play with a ball any time, anywhere – while Ducky just wants to run around the yard with her Bounzer in her mouth.
Looks like you were all having fun! We stayed inside because we had no snow to play in. Not to mention Ducky’s leash restriction of these last two weeks. Thankfully, Shadow’s knee is finally healed enough that I can finally give her some freedom in the yard.
We hope you enjoyed the snow you finally got!
Cricket and Luke definitely have different agendas when playing….Luke is far less focused than Cricket is!
I decided to leave the gloves at home while putting my hands in my pockets… and now phenny always thinks I have a treat for him… we need a plan C I think ;O)))
Well, it was a good idea, but yup, I can see that happening! Not sure what you could try next! 🙂
