It’s difficult for me to remember a day when we fed supermarket or grain store food to our pets, and never even looked at the ingredients list. We’ve come a long way since then, and maintaining our pets at a healthy weight with nutritional food is one of the most important things to us. We have two dogs with two different health issues: Luke’s luxating patella, and Sheba’s recent removal of a cancerous tumor. One thing these two conditions have in common is that research I’ve turned up says that a low carbohydrate diet is important for both.
We’ve been feeding grain free food for a while, and we’re always interested in learning about new brands that fulfill these requirements. That’s why I’ve been happy to learn about WildCalling!® recently.
Wild Calling! is not only concerned with providing grain free nutrition that is rich in meat and protein, but their company philosophy is “family first”, and they believe in “pets before profits”. They don’t have a strategy, they have a story. It’s a story about a family owned company whose food is made in the USA. Their values and caring for their own pets led them to create their own food. They treat everyone as a friend and neighbor, and even had a friend who is also a neighbor design their beautiful artwork for their packaging.
Wild Calling! took their cue from the wild west and believes in being real, honest, and true. That’s how they communicate with everyone they come into contact with through their company. They figured dogs will chase after anything that runs, flies, or swims, just like in the wild, and that’s the idea they based their high protein recipes on.
What is the Art of Nutrition? They use high quality ingredients including hormone and antibiotic free meat, poultry, and fish. This high protein food supports healthy muscle growth and increased energy. Then they add fruits to the 100% grain free recipe, along with important Omega 3 & 6, and GlycoEdge. GlycoEdge is designed to provide dogs with consistent energy through a low glycemic diet, and is made from tapioca, sweet potatoes, and lentils. Each of those ingredients is added at a specific level to prevent insulin and glucose spikes.

I don’t know about you and your dogs, but we are outdoors lovers here, and we enjoy watching for wildlife and love the idea of a food based on that concept. The dogs will sit in this window for hours watching for deer to wander through the yard.

Wouldn’t they love to chase them? Of course, that’s not allowed….but our beagle Kobi once pulled away from my neighbor who was caring for him, and chased a bear! Luckily the bear got away and Kobi’s leash got stuck on something right in our woods so we were able to find him quickly. This crew will just have to dream about chasing wildlife, and satisfy their wild urges eating a diet rich in protein that is as healthy for them as possible.

If this wildness appeals to you as well, you can use this handy store locator to find out where you can purchase Wild Calling! in your area. Would you like to learn more? They have a brochure you can read which tells their story and shows everything they have available for dog (and cat) food; and you can also follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
Thanks for sharing the information on this food. Great pictures and the deer one is just great.
You’re welcome! We got a lot of good photos with my hubby’s game camera. That one is kind of old, we haven’t put it out for a while. I hope the deer are faring OK with all the snow we have.
I wish these companies could find a way to make their foods much less expensive. Like Linda, there’s no way I could afford to feed this to my big girls. On a positive note, though, I love your photos!!
Thanks for seeing the positive side of it! I do understand that. We at least have one small girl who doesn’t eat very much (Cricket is only 22 pounds).
Thanks for telling us about new food, but holy crap is it expensive. It sounds like a good concept, but there is no way I could afford to feed it to three large dogs.
I totally understand where you’re coming from. Perhaps an occasional can of the food as a special treat?
I don’t remember Kobi chasing a bear, oh my! But also, HOW exactly did you get that pic of the deer in front of your house??
Well, that was the story Roland told anyway…LOL.
That picture was taken with Tom’s game camera!
OMD! Gaines Burgers! I had completely forgotten those dreadful things. Our poor childhood dogs! I love the Wild Calling!
Well, at least the childhood dogs probably didn’t know the difference anyway! They probably thought they were awesome…LOL.
We wonder if they will make cat food eventually.
They do make cat food! Check out the brochure. I haven’t had time to look into what they have yet, but I am sure it is along the same lines of quality as the dog food.
I firmly believe nutrition plays a key role in the health and well being of our pets and ourselves. I’m glad to see dog food manufactures taking this seriously.
I agree. It’s something I really want to spend more time studying and learning about too. That’s why I like smaller family owned companies like this….I don’t think the big names care quite as much.
Good food is so important to dogs and humans.
It definitely is! I try to eat healthier, so why not do the same for my pets?
We switched Nelly to grain free food after she went through a very uncomfortable time with allergies. I’m not sure if it was the food or something else (seasonal changes). I’m going to have check out Wild Calling. I really prefer to only give my dogs products made and sourced in the US and Canada because I think there are stricter guidelines in place.
I agree, I really don’t trust anything from anywhere else. I always like to be on the safe side. I read that grain free could be good for digestion, and now that Luke has been on it for a while, his has been much better.
This sounds like a wonderful food! i will definitely go check it out!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
We’ll be giving it a try soon, so watch for our review too!
We love their logo and bags! Mom remembers feeding their dog Gaines Burgers when she was growing up. Now when she thinks about it, how awful of a food was that? How things have changed and we dogs these days are so fortunate!
Oh yes, Gaines Burgers…..I remember those! I must remember the commercials or something since I didn’t have dogs growing up. I had to look it up, and it says they were made of moisturized dog food that could be stored at room temperature…..imagine the preservatives that could make that happen! 🙂
