We’ve tried a lot of different treat games and toys with the K9 crew. While most have been fun and entertaining, I really couldn’t get excited about something new; they all seemed kind of the same after a while. However, when I read some reviews on other blogs of the Paw5 Wooly™ Snuffle Mat, I thought it sounded interesting and challenging in a different way.

The Paw5 Wooly Snuffle Mat seemed like it would use the dogs’ noses much more than other food toys. It is meant to “stimulate their natural foraging instincts by mimicking a hunt for food in grass and fields”. Since we do nose works with the dogs for fun, and both Luke and Cricket have really good noses (they are a hound and hound mix, after all!), I thought this one might be more fun for them.

It turned out I was right! Not only is it more fun for them, it was so much fun for me to watch them sniffing and snuffling away as they dug the food and treats out of this mat. I can easily say it is the new favorite for all of us.
We’ve been having typical late May/early June weather here lately; which means a lot of cool temperatures and rain, so we are in need of more things to entertain the crew when we’re stuck inside. If I’m not in the mood or short on time for doing a whole nose works set-up, this is so much easier – just throw the mat down and dump food and treats on top! It still gives their nose a workout, but it’s less time consuming for me!
We reviewed the Paw5 Rock-n-Bowl in the past, so I was already a fan of the company and their values. They believe in sustainability and a “4 from 5” philosophy: They “tread lightly, commit fully, design thoughtfully and actively give back to the world in which we live”.
The Wooly Snuffle Mat is hand woven from non-toxic and safe materials. It is so easy to clean – just throw it in the washer and dryer!

I wanted to capture some of the noises the dogs made while using this. They were so funny. Luke was sneezing and snuffling the first time, but when I took video the second time he was quieter. Cricket is a loud sniffer, so I think you can hear her, just turn the volume all the way up. They really had fun with it. The clips I included are towards the end of their time…so they are searching even harder! I loved how Luke was kind of shaking his head back and forth, with ears flying.

The Snuffle Mat would be great for feeding your dogs’ meals as well. We can’t use it for that, since we add supplements and wet foods on top of their kibble. We use it for fun, and we can feed them part of their dry kibble for the day in it, and then reduce it at meal time; or I just mix their kibble and some treats as well.
I highly recommend this product, and it is great for any size, age, or breed of dog, whether you use it for meals or just for fun. I’m very happy that we are getting the opportunity to give one away to one of our readers! Just fill out the widget below for your chance to win, and good luck!

I’m torn about trying this mat. Not really sure if this would be of interest to my two – but then again I’m curious. Since I’ve now missed the give-away, I will have to purchase one and check it out! I do have one question – would you recommend I purchase one for each dog or do they share?
My dogs don’t share well, so they take turns. I’m thinking about getting a second one. Maybe you should just get one to start, see how they like it, and then get a 2nd if they both do?
Looks like fun. I could see brown dawgs becoming obsessed.
Barley loves her Wooly snuffle mat! We used it A LOT when Sal was here and when Rye was in quarantine (and then still separated from the family) because it kept Barley busy while she had to be alone. We left it out for months and I’d just toss some treats on top periodically and Barley loved it. Soth also loved sleeping on it. Unfortunately, Rye thinks anything she’s allowed to play with must be destroyed, so I’m nervous about letting her play with something that has food buried inside it even if I’m supervising her, so it’s been in a closet for ages. I’ll to have to break it out for Barley when Rye’s friends come over for a play date this week, though. Glad to see your crew loves this, too!
Luke gets so excited now when he sees me get it out! It’s been handy with all the rainy days we’ve been having lately too.
Maybe Rye can be trusted to try it when she gets a little older. There’s always the hope she’ll outgrow her destructiveness. Our Sheba never outgrew it, but I think Luke might be outgrowing it some, with certain types of toys anyway.
Thanks for running this fun giveaway!
Torrey would especially like this, but I think Roxy would too.
My puppy needs one to keep her busy 🙂
My pups would LOVE this!!! Thank you for this giveaway!!! 🙂
You are very welcome, and good luck, Lori!
That looks nice pups will be happy
OMD, I have been so excited about this item since I first heard about it. But this is the first time I’ve seen video. THANK YOU!
I left behind nearly all of Honey’s food toys. We don’t have much room and I didn’t want to find kibble hidden in important boat parts (Honey is less thorough than Cricket about finding every last bite). I suspect the mat would keep things more contained.
Hope I win. But if I don’t this is definitely on my “want/need” list.
Good luck in the giveaway! Yes, I do think the mat does well at keeping the treats contained. Plus you can just roll it up to put it away, so it doesn’t take up much room.
that looks pretty cool!! Heard the sniffing by both for sure! Fun!
Oh, looks like they really like that! It’s the first time I’ve seen that. Rita’s so lazy… and so fussy. I’m not sure she’d enjoy it, so I’ll let others have the chance to win. 🙂
I’m actually surprised Cricket was willing to do the work with this. She’s usually lazy too, and thinks she can just give me her cute look to get what she wants! 🙂
That’s a cool mat! We love it

Now that’s a toy you can really get your nose into. 🙂
That’s pretty cool!
I think Bentley and Pierre would love this rug! Such fun and a great busy rainy day activity. ☺
That really is an interesting thing and the fun is sure there!
This looks like it would be great for those bad weather days, when I just can’t walk the dogs. I know Delilah would LOVE this.
This looks like something Daisy would have a blast with! We don’t enter many giveaways, but we’ll enter this one. 🙂
Yay…good luck in the giveaway!
That looks like fun. Being that I don’t have a dog, I will pass on the giveaway.
This is the first time I’ve ever seen this, and I love it! We’re also enduring a string of rainy days, so cabin fever has reached epidemic proportions at our house. The Paw5 Wooly Snuffle Mat looks like the perfect cure. Thanks for the introduction!
You’re very welcome! Hope your girls get to try one, they are definitely a rainy day cure! BTW…the rain won’t end here either, the most we get is a one day break here and there!
I may need 3 of them, one for each dog. Susie would go crazy over it for sure!
I wonder if Luke will figure out to just pick it and shake it?
He’s a smart boy, so you never know! I’ll let you know if he ever does.
I think I may get a second one too, right now they just have to take turns with this one. 🙂
How cool is that? Looks like an ATM machine for canines. ????
Good luck to all who enter! We aren’t entering because we have one we reviewed last year……..we just wanted to vouch for what a great product it is!
Thanks for chiming in, Caren! Your post is probably one of the ones that made me really want to try this!
We have one of these and a homemade one. Mom loads them up for us and we love them!
it’s a super cool toy and I bet Phenny would love it too… but he decided to become a shredder-pro, so it maybe will only a short playtime ;o)
