When I saw the booth at the BlogPaws conference for Tuggo Dog Toy, I gravitated there immediately! Any long time readers of my blog know just how destructive Luke and Sheba are, so I am always on the lookout for fun toys that will stand up to their shenanigans. This toy intrigued me since you can fill it with water, sand, or gravel to make it heavier.
Luke is up at 4:30 am every day, and I’ve felt like we haven’t been giving him enough exercise. We used to play fetch twice a day but now that the girls are older they aren’t interested in that second round of play. But I realized Luke was, so I needed something to get him out there in the evening running. Tuggo fits the bill! He likes to play with something different, and boy does he love romping around with this toy.
I think that it’s getting him the extra exercise he needs, even though I don’t think he’ll ever be a dog that sleeps in in the morning! Just look at the workout he gets, talk about using every muscle he has!
Tuggo is easy to deal with. I used a simple kitchen knife to unscrew the plug and add water. I initially filled it about half full and Luke seemed to like that. It’s only about 1 pound empty, but 20 lbs when it’s full! It lives up to it’s promise of durability. The rope concerned me since Luke will often take a toy aside and destroy whatever portion of it he can. The ball is nothing he will ever even put a dent in, but I was relieved when I read that you can buy a replacement rope for only $5. However, Luke hasn’t destroyed it yet. I’d like to say it’s because I’ve been more diligent about picking the toy up so he doesn’t have a chance to destroy the rope, but I found it out in the yard in the rain the other morning. Not a problem though! Getting wet didn’t bother the rope at all.

Tuggo comes in two different sizes – 7 inch and 10 inch. We have the 7 inch, which seems good for many size dogs, especially since you can make it weigh as much or as little as you’d like….whatever your dog prefers. Luke seems to like it a little lighter. The rope moves freely through the center of the ball which makes it easy to play tug-of-war, or to just run around with.
I couldn’t get Sheba interested in playing tug-of-war with Luke though. We have a few toys that she just doesn’t have interest in, but that’s OK. I was willing to play tug with him, though I usually lose! I also just toss it across the yard for him to chase. As you can see in the short video below, he doesn’t really need me to have a blast with it anyway.

My dogs would love playing tug-of-war with each other as well as the humans.
My puggle would love this toy. He has been destroying many other toys quickly but this one looks like it could stand up to him for a bit. I love that you can buy replacement ropes too. He certainly would have fun with it. Thanks for having this contest.
You’re welcome, and good luck! I just love puggles, they are high on the list of breeds I’d love to have one day!
I’d love to win this toy so that we can donate it to our local shelter for pups to enjoy and receive play enrichment while they wait for their forever homes!
What a thoughtful idea…good luck in the giveaway!
my two germans shepherds would Love to play with this together in our yard
My pup would be in toy heaven. She would have a blast.
I just ordered one for Ducky — Callie & Shadow aren’t really into tug that much any more — I’ll have to remember to add some water so she can’t klonk herself on the head with it.
I’m so glad you ordered one for her, and good plan! 🙂 I bet Ducky is going to have a ball with it (excuse the pun).
Anything that is fun with Layla is awesome to win 🙂
My two dogs love to play tug-o-war, so they would have so much fun with this toy!
My dog would love this, his dog friends stop by and they could play together with this. TFS.
I work in a facility with Doggie Daycare, and I know the pups would love this toy!
My dog would have SO MUCH fun with this toy!
Our boy Buzz would absolutely love the Tuggo ball! He’s our ball crazy pup 😉 I really enjoyed watching the video of Luke playing with it, as well as his well-defined waistline!
Oh, thank you for saying that about Luke’s waistline, Barbara! I sometimes worry that he’s too thin. But we try hard to keep him on the lean side because he has luxating patellas (bad knees) in both of his back legs. We hope to avoid surgery for as long as possible, and keeping him slim is easier than keeping him quiet! 🙂 We just want him to be able to romp and run as much as he wants to.
I’m a sucker for K9 waistlines 🙂 Unfortunately, it’s a rare sight these days ~ looks like you’re doing an awesome job keeping Luke fit and holding off on that surgery for his knees.
I saw this at BlogPaws, but didn’t have a chance to speak to them. Looks like a great toy for super active dogs. While it might too much for Ruby, I know my in-laws dog would LOVE it so I’ll enter the give-away for him.
Paisley loves her Tuggo dog toy! Good luck to your contestants!
My dog would love this toy. He loves pulling on things, trying to take stuff away from us.
A pound! I’m not sure Mr. N could even move it!
Ha ha, but I don’t think there’s anything Mr. N couldn’t do if he set his mind to it! 🙂
Hi Y’all!
I’m not a tugger, but if you like to tug it sure looks like fun.
My Human thinks movin’ a blog, especially a long established one, is akin to movin’ into a different house. It takes awhile to get everything unpacked and put away and even longer to remember where everything is.
Check us out at our new home http://www.browndogcbr.net.
Our theme is still changing periodically as we try to select one that works the best for us and you, our readers.
Y’all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
We don’t think Luke will destroy that toy! He sure is having fun.
Oh wow! Luke is having a blast with his Tuggo! Rocco has one but doesn’t play with it nearly as vigorously! Love the video.
Looks like Luke had a lot of fun! I would be so worried about Barley playing with something that weighs 20 lbs–when she gets frustrated with a toy, she starts smacking it into things (I was afraid she’d put her bottle buddy through the living room wall!), so I can only imagine the destruction she’d cause with a full Tuggo toy!
This is definitely not a toy that will be allowed inside the house….LOL!
This looks like a fun toy. I think Titan would love it because (1) he loves balls; and (2) he would have a blast with the tug part. Go Luke, Goooooo! 🙂
Love the video!
Aw that toy sounds so fun!! Good luck everyone!!!!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
These Tuggos are really popular these days, and I can see the reason!

Ironically I received a tugger toy last year. Harley wasn’t interested and Jax is afraid of it. I am hoping Jax will want to play with it before the summer is over and he’s a little bigger. I love looking at all the photos from folks who received one at BP. Luke looks like he’s having a blast. Have a great weekend.
Luke looks like he is having great fun with the toy. Kilo the Pug loves playing tug but is not big on fetch and balls. We could not enter as based in Canada but followed both on Twitter etc anyway. Have a great weekend. Susie
Thank you for following on Twitter anyway…we appreciate the support! Hope you’re having a great weekend too!
Love the pictures of Luke playing with the Tuggo toy!! Looks like he had a blast 🙂 My dogs love playing tug-of war with each other and with me so I think they would enjoy this toy very much too!
If I win I hope my dogs will share. Pick me, pick me.
Boy those toys look fun
Snorts,
Lily & Edward
I loved this toy and the ball we received was perfect for Rodrigo and Scout – too big for them to get their mouths around. Awesome, right?
Except Rodrigo chewed the rope off, because I guess that was bothering him. What’s funny is that he still plays with the ball – he looks like he’s playing soccer and it’s hard to get him inside when he’s playing. I need to hunt down the ball, because it rolled into tall grass (weekend project).
Our fence catches all the toys before they can roll away into the woods! But on occasion balls get thrown over the fence and we have to go hunt for them too.
So far Luke doesn’t like to play with toys that he can’t pick up in his mouth. Normally he also loses interest if he can’t destroy them too, that’s why I’m surprised he hasn’t chewed the rope off this yet.
LOL that looks like fun. Hopefully Luke doesn’t bop himself in the head like Freighter did with the bumper rope.
I’m actually surprised he hasn’t yet! 🙂
that’s a pawsome toy Luke! and it’s even a toy for two… have fun while playing with your humans!
The humans are lazy and prefer I play by myself most of the time. Woof!
Luke
Great video – love it when dogs just play with themselves – make up their own games and have fun.
Wow Luke that looks like the perfect toy for you! What a workout and that’s pretty cool that you can buy a replacement rope because I understand about chewing those up! Mom saw those at BlogPaws and knew they weren’t for me though. Love Dolly
Great review! Luke was having a blast!! I know Gambler and Glory will really love this toy, their favorite things are ropes and balls.
He is a lot like Bailie with that toy! She wacked herself in the head with it several times swinging it around, but adding the water stopped that issue.
I’m glad you told me that, I’ll make sure I keep it at least half full, or I’m sure Luke will do the same thing!
