We last did a Flower Friday post late in September, so today we thought we’d share the rest of the blooms we have seen over these last two months of fall.
In late September, much of the color we saw was from these wildflowers that lined our driveway.
In early October, the only flowers blossoming in our barn garden were these asters….
….except for this one hardy, lone daylily!
This pot of impatiens hung in right until the first hard freeze, but now all that is left is the color from the pumpkins, and it will be time to put away these animals for the winter soon!
By mid-November, all color from the flowers was gone. While I frequently complain about our barberry bush (those barbs really hurt if you get poked by one!), it does bring us a bit of color right into the winter. I am always saying we should get rid of it, but one reason I don’t is because some little birds (I think chipping sparrows) love to build their nests in there. I always have trouble seeing the nests, but with the leaves gone we can now see this one!
Our first snow made for a prettier scene on that bush as well.
No matter the weather, we’ll always be outside playing ball, and we always have the splashes of color around our yard from Cricket and Luke’s collection of balls!
Which is your favorite?
Thank you to Da DB Boyz, and their new little puppy, Rosy, for hosting the Flower Friday blog hop.
All so lovely!! And we did get lucky this year with some things lasting longer than normal!
My favorite ball is whichever one Mom is tossing over my head for me to catch. 😉 I know that’s not what you meant, but I couldn’t resist.
I like the purple aster.
Cricket would agree with you on the ball comment, Raven!! 🙂
The barberry is my favorite. I love it’s color
Pretty fall colors! That’s what we love most about the season.
We still have some flowers but I cover them with sheets when it gets to 32 but that’s only happened once this year. LOL!
Lucky you! I had to cover mine a few times just to keep them going a little longer. Once we start to get into the hard freezes I give up though!
I, too, adore having bird’s nests near our house. That’s a great photo! We have lost all our colors now but your post made me smile.
We had at least three bird’s nests in our barn this year too…it’s so much fun to watch them!
Glad we could bring a little color into your life too! 🙂
Seeing Cricket with her ball always makes my day. Your farm is beautiful – even at this time of year – I’m envious!
Thank you!
I’m glad to hear that you don’t get tired of photos of Cricket with her ball, since we have so many of them! 🙂
Everything sure is pretty, except for the snow! Have a fun farm weekend!!!
I always say the first snow is very pretty….but then it gets old quickly. LOL
All the flowers are gone by us, too. We have a small Japanese Maple in our front yard – with lots of pretty red leaves. Otherwise, not much color left anywhere.
The barberry bush is very pretty with the light snow.
We didn’t get as much color from our trees this year as usual, because of the odd weather I think. So we had to try to find some color to enjoy elsewhere!
Everything around here is dead and we don’t have many outdoor toys for color. We are waiting for snow to brighten things up.
Maybe some Christmas decorations too? 🙂
What a beautiful glimpse at the last of flowers of one season and the colors of the beginning of a new season! Sorry about the mix up of Flower Friday dates…we are revamping things with the addition of Rosy and the loss of Dory and Bilbo. Look for a more schedules and organized Flower Friday schedule in 2018! Thanks for joining us!
We’ll be ready to go again in 2018, and no worries in the meantime! We know how busy puppies can keep you! 🙂
I love any color I come across in our yard. The one flower bed we did have in the back yard became one of Callie’s favorite resting spots several years ago. And since she always shared everything with Shadow, it became one of Shadow’s favorite spots too. I never had the heart to chase them out of there, so whatever flowers survived I enjoy in the spring.
Luke and Cricket trample the flowers around the patio all the time, but I just let them go. The hardier ones hang in there anyway!
I like them all but I think the birds nest in the tree is my fave. Happy Friday!
It’s such a cute little nest…I love it too!
