The theme for this week’s #52Snapshots of Life photo challenge is “Friend“. We are doing something a little different today. For the first 50 weeks of this challenge, I have shared photos that I took myself, most especially for this challenge. Today I’m sharing a photo taken OF me a couple of years ago by a friend. I did do some editing of it but that was it.
This is me holding my close friend Sheryl’s little dog Benji. We shared Benji on the blog exactly one month ago as one of two adorable “blondies”, one canine and one feline, for our very first Friday Family & Friends post.
Sadly, little Benji passed away less than two weeks ago. His illness came on suddenly with difficulty breathing and the hope was that he had treatable bronchitis. But when medications were no help another x-ray revealed that his lungs were filled with cancer. His breathing difficulties were getting worse and she made the painful decision to help him to the Rainbow Bridge.
We got this news just days before learning that our own Sheba’s lumps she had removed were cancerous. This serves to remind me just how blessed we are to be getting more time with Sheba. Sheba’s brother and littermate Moses also passed on from cancer, also quite suddenly, so we know just how devastating that is.
So today, I am thinking of my friend and her whole family, and how much we are all going to miss one of her best friends. I hope this photo brings a happy memory to her, and a smile through her tears.

Another post that gmail threw in the junk folder. Not nice, Google!! Jan and her crew are among my dear friends.
Anyway, I’m soooo sorry about Sheryl’s little Benjie! I remember that post. Please let Sheryl know I’m thinking of her and keeping her in my prayers. It’s not easy adjusting to life without our best furry friends; but knowing they are no longer in pain makes their physical absence a bit easier to bear. If I’d known he was sick, I’d have asked my sweet Callie-angel to watch over him as she is doing for Sheba. Hugs to both you and Sheryl!
Thank you so much for your post. I’m so sorry for your loss, too. I still miss my Benji every minute of every day. I know it will take time. But it helps knowing he has your Callie-angel welcoming him to Rainbow Bridge. HUGS
Friends make the world go round! This was the perfect picture for the word!
That is a wonderful picture. So sorry about Benji.
We’re so sorry to hear about Benji. Purrs to his family.
Awe! That’s a great photo! Benji was a cutie!
I’m so very sorry to hear about Benji, what a heartbreaking story. Please tell your friend that we’re sending her lots of prayers to help her through this difficult time.
I will tell her, and I know how much she appreciates that. ♥
awe what a great picture for the challenge and to remember your little friend by. So sorry for your friends loss.
So much sad news from our friends right now. We are thankful each day that we are alright. Great shot for friend.
Thank you, Jan, for this very special post. I miss him so much and still can’t believe he’s gone. Henry (our blond kitty) seems to miss him too. He’s been sleeping on my pillow every night. I’m glad that you’ve got more time with Sheba to enjoy. Thank you also to all of your readers who have posted messages of sympathy. It all helps…and Jan’s correct, I am smiling through my tears.
You’re welcome, Sheryl. I know it’s not going to be the same the next time we go to your house. I can just imagine how it must be way too quiet there. 🙁
They live on in our hearts forever and ever!!
They certainly do, don’t they?
That is a wonderful photo of you and Benji. I am always so sad to hear about someone having to say good-bye to an old friend. ♥ ♥
Thank you! If you’re like me, you tear up over someone’s pet that you don’t even know!
Oh dear we are so sorry to hear about Benji! Yes, we need to treasure every minute we have with our pets. Love Dolly
