We are joining Ruckus the Eskie for his Sepia Saturday blog hop today. The only rules for this hop are that it be sepia related (pet or non-pet), and have fun! Grab the badge, link to the host, and join in the fun!
Last week I shared some photos of Kobi and Cricket and discussed some of their similarities and differences. This week I want to do the same with Sheba and Moses. For those of you who are new to my blog or may not know, Sheba is our 9 year old golden retriever, and Moses was her brother/littermate who we lost last summer to cancer.

The obvious differences between these two are that they are different sexes and Sheba is light colored whereas Moses was quite dark. Her fur is long but thin and his was very thick. Moses outweighed Sheba by about 10 pounds. He was just a big loving goofball, more laid back and serious. Sheba is also goofy, but in a more high strung and hyper way.

They both love/loved playing fetch, but their techniques were sometimes different. Sheba gets the ball and runs away with it, then will eventually pass it off to Cricket to return to us. Moses would lay waiting, and if he caught it would easily give it up to either of the girls.
Winter or summer they love/loved being outside playing. Whether in the swimming pool or at the lake, they loved getting wet!
The big difference was that Moses would not swim. Sheba goes out to chase the ball, but Moses would not go out over his head!
Both Sheba and Moses were afraid of thunderstorms, but Moses’ fears were much deeper. Since he’s been gone, Sheba has been a bit less fearful, I think she somewhat fed off of his more intense fear. He had a thundershirt which calmed him down some, and then the girls would both calm down also.
Moses loved his stuffie toys. Sheba also loves them but her sole goal is to destroy them. Poor Moses constantly lost his toys to his sister if we didn’t take them away in time (Luke is experiencing the same thing now!).

As much as they had their differences, I love how in so many of these photos they are posing almost the exact same way!
They were definitely two of a kind and they loved playing and wrestling together. Sheba took his loss hard but she bounced back because at least she still has her beagle sister to play with, and now a new puppy. Moses’ memory lives on for all of us through his sister.
Love the pictures. Moses sounds a lot like the Golden we had before the Chessies. He liked water, but would not swim. He had the first stuffed toy we ever got him in perfect condition on the day he died (at 13). It is a shame you lost Moses at such a young age.
Oh, that is so sweet that your golden still had his first toy! Not just Moses, but another of his littermates who my friend had (who we got Moses from) also died, of a different type of cancer, about three weeks before Moses. I hope we have Sheba for a lot longer.
The pics of Moses and Sheba are beautiful!
Such wonderful Goldens! My Mum has a really soft spot for Golden’s, she had two Harry and George and they really were best buddies!
Big Wags to all,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Thank you, Snoopy! Oh, Harry and George….I love those names! Goldens just seem to get along so well, they are so friendly and loving.
What cute little sepia versions of sheba and moses! Love it. I also love the swimming shots too. Thanks for linking up!
Thanks, Ruckus, and you’re welcome!!
We look forward to being back to swimming one of these days, but I don’t think it will be for a while! 🙂
Beautiful photos and dogs 🙂
Thank you, Marie!
What beautiful photo’s and what adorable little puppies they were xxxoxxxx
Mollie and Alfie
Thank you, sweeties!!
xxxxoooo
Sheba is so pretty in that second picture! Love it that you have the old photos to share their stories 🙂
I love her in that picture also. I lost some of their puppy pictures for a while and I was so upset. Then I accidentally found them on my external hard drive buried inside another folder….I was so happy!
What a sweet reminiscence and beautiful shots. I guess I didn’t realize that Sheba and Moses were litter mates. How sweet and what a handful you must have had! So sad for you that he’s gone…
Thank you. They were a handful when they were puppies, but they grew up into great dogs!
I’m so sorry about Moses. I love the similarities that you pointed out and the pictures you used to show them. Beautiful pictures and beautiful dogs!
Thank you so much!
Those are some great pictures. 🙂
Thank you, and thanks for coming by to see them!!
Moses was a handsome boy. I didn’t realize they were litter mates. Would you ever do that again? I had gambler and his litter mate Marie for seven months and I said I would never do it again. They were so naughty. Thanks for the beautiful pictures and memories of Moses.
We didn’t have any problems with Sheba and Moses as littermates, so I guess I might do it again. At the time I didn’t know there could be any issues, but now I’ve read so much about it I’m not sure. Cricket was only two months older than those two, so we had 3 puppies at once. Now that I would never do again!
Thank you for sharing in my memories.
They look so awesome together, what a sad thing that he is gone! You have had quite a tough time this past year. Bailie and I are not from the same litter and are almost seven years apart but the same breed. Mom is amazed, though at all our similarities. She mixes up our names a lot because we are so similar. Luckily, I am black white and tan and Bailie is brown white and tan so we will always look different. I also have more soft curly hair, she has more wirey hair.
Thank you, Emma, it has been a rough year….losing two dogs in less than 8 months.
I can see the similarities and differences between you and Bailie too. I wonder if any of that will change as she gets older?
Oh my goodness such darling baby photos! And you’re right, they do stand or pose very similar to each other. How funny!
They were definitely quite the pair….yin and yang I guess you could say!
So sad that you’re missing Moses. How sweet that his memory lives on in his sister. I love how the two of them mirrored each other.

I didn’t realize before looking for photos how much they did mirror each other! At first it’s hard when you look at your dog and see the one you lost there, but eventually it becomes a huge comfort to have them live on in their sibling with their similarities.
That was beautiful! I am so glad the memory lives on through his sister.
Beautiful photos!
Happy Sepia Saturday
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Thank you! I really enjoyed looking back through all the photos to find these.
Sending (((hugs)))) for Moses. Those photos lended themselves to the use of Sepia so beautifully!
Thank you so much, Caren. I wasn’t sure how I would like the goldens in sepia, but I love how it shows their contrasts in coloring in some of them.
Hi Y’all!
And non dog people think we have no feelings or individual personalities!
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
They couldn’t be more wrong, could they, Hawk?
OMD! You had two Golden puppies at the same time?!? That must have been double fun. Moses did look like my Tucker but much longer hair. Are you up north? I was thinking your pups might need that extra hair but poor Tucker was so hot here in 110 degree summers. I know he & Moses are playing at the bridge until we call them to be with us! Have a great day! Bark More, Growl Less Barking from the Bayou!
Two puppies….crazy, right? Well, we also had Cricket at the time and she’s only two months older than the goldens! It was fun, but I wouldn’t do it again. 🙂
Yes, we are up north (NH) so Moses’ long fur was needed for the winters. He hated summers too, and ours don’t even get that hot up here!
Oh, I love the thought of Moses and Tucker playing at the bridge….thank you for that!
