At least once a week from now on and as long as she’s still with us, our golden retriever Sheba is going to share one thing she does to live life to the fullest. At times when I’m watching her doing something fun, I get this feeling that she knows that her days in this world are winding down, and she is determined to make the most of them. It never fails to bring a smile to my face!
TODAY’S TIP: Don’t be afraid to get dirty!
How did our beautiful golden girl get so dirty, you might wonder? It’s kind of my fault. It was one of our really hot, humid and sunny days. In fact, it was so hot, I sat on the edge of the dogs’ pool to put my feet and legs in to cool off some. Now, you might know that our beagle Cricket is the only one of the dogs that actually lies right down in the pool to completely cool off; Luke and Sheba will only stand in it, occasionally getting a drink of water or sticking their face in to grab the ball.

On this day, I thought I’d be smart, so I cupped my hands and poured water over both Sheba and Luke’s heads and bodies to try to cool them off more. You can see what Sheba thought about that! She actually looked worse than that photo showed, I wasn’t on my pet blogging game that day, and wiped her with a towel before taking the photo. One half of her face was actually black – she looked like one of those black and white cookies!
What’s one thing you and/or your pets did to live life to the fullest recently?
Thank you for sharing the post. The pictures are amazing also.
Getting dirty is so much fun!! My gang loves to get dirty especially when I have to leave and I have to bath them before I go.
Awe everyone deserves to get a bit dirty now and again. I always laugh when the goldens come out of some of the ponds when we are training or testing and they are all black. Can’t see black on a brown dawg. 🙂
It always amazes me that I can’t wipe that black off her, but if I just leave her lying down for a while, she’ll get up looking clean as a whistle, with just a pile of dirt left behind to clean up! 🙂
Enjoying each day is a perfect attitude. I’m glad Sheba enjoyed getting dirty
I love this Jan, love how you are focusing on the positive and the good times.
We’ve had a couple of nice, cool days with low humidity. I’ve enjoyed watching Sampson just lying outside on the deck just enjoying the weather. There is something so beautiful in just ‘being’.
I look forward to many of Sheba’s tips.
Sheba is making it easy to stay positive!
She also loves to just lie outside on the patio or deck too – yes, there is something beautiful in that.
We’ve already collected quite a few tips, so it’s going to be fun to keep sharing them.
I enjoy the quiet time I spend in the morning with the boys. They both lay on the bedroom floor and get kisses and snuggles before we start our day.
That is the best way to start the day! ♥
Great advice! Can’t wait to see the rest of the series.
We love that Sheba is enjoying every minute of her life! This will be a fun series.
I love this idea and series! We are looking for forward to following all the tips!! Smiles, Barks and Wagging tails, Denise & ~ Shasta
We’re so glad you enjoyed it! Stay tuned for Tip #2 coming tomorrow – with a fun video too! 🙂
I think this outlook on life is one of the best things our dogs can teach us. They are always able to live in the moment and appreciate the small things.
She looks so satisfied being a little dirty and it brought a smile to my face as well! 🙂
I know I am going to love these tips!! Eeek, I am embarrassed, I can’t think of anything that we did to live life to the fullest other than to cuddle and kiss each other every day!
Sheba says that cuddling and kissing are the most important part of living life to the fullest (you will probably see that in one of the future tips)! ♥
Those are some words of wisdom Sheba

Oh Sheba, you beautiful, sweet, Golden Girl! You know your days are numbered but you’re not ready to go yet. You get dirty all you want to!! And give Luke and Cricket a run for their money, sweetheart!! Being a Golden Girl, I know you have a strong Joié de vivrè – you can’t help it, it’s part of your DNA. Just as it was part of Callie’s and is part of Shadow’s. Enjoy every single moment to the fullest! Callie will be smiling down on you every moment, as she does her sisters.
I think that has to be the #1 thing I love about goldens….their pure joy in all of the simple little things in life.
Have to agree with you, 100%!
Sheba’s a wise pup, she knows how to make the most of every day. The biggest part of living life to the fullest every day for us is giving Daisy major lovies; there isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t tell and show her how blessed we are to have her in our lives and how special she is. And we try to introduce her to new experiences as often as possible. But lovies…always. 🙂
Lovies are the best, and the most important thing! ♥
We try to do fun stuff every day. With Katie, Mom always let her choose what she wanted to do. If she wanted to walk to the left, or walk longer, Mom went with it, even though it often made her late for work. The last times she wanted to walk longer, Mom ended up carrying her a few blocks home because she couldn’t walk anymore, but that was alright. Mom would do anything for us, and Katie appreciated the help. She knew Mom was there for her. It’s great to see Sheba getting down and dirty, why not!
Your Mom is the best, Emma, and she sure would do anything for you. I’m not sure I could carry Sheba, and she’s probably around the same size as Katie was!
I so agree with you… efurry moment is unique… and we can make it to a special one, we always remember :o)
