Remember how I’ve been starting Luke out slowly with getting back into swimming? Well, I forgot to carry that same theory over to Cricket when I took her recently. Cricket loves the water, and she has been swimming in the past, though it’s probably been a few years. I did start out slowly with throwing the ball in, but I got a little too excited about how well she was doing at swimming again. I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story (it is Wordless Wednesday after all).

Just because a beagle can swim, and a beagle will swim (when she’s ball obsessed) doesn’t mean she always wants to swim! I am at least smart enough to take an old chewed up ball when we go swimming in case this happens. It wasn’t warm enough that day for me to be willing to go in and retrieve it this time, so it floated away….lesson learned!

That looks like a great time! I really wish we had access to somewhere the boys could at least wade in the water.
Maybe it was too cold for Cricket too! LOL Whenever I am anywhere near water with Delilah I have to be prepared to swim. I could lose her or a toy. 🙂
LOL lesson learned!
Dogs are always way smarter than humans! Love Dolly
LOL Your throwing arm was just too enthusiastic!
“Yeah, I’m not getting that.” Story of my life!
Fun pictures Cricket and I don’t blame you I would of left it too, you wanted a new ball anyways.
She probably knows she has like 10 more balls at home!
Harley and Charlie only know-can swim, will swim. Ha! Can’t keep these two out of the water. Glad that all of the kids are loving it so much this year!
LOL. Cute. Oh, beagles… they know their mind! Reminds me of going to the bay with Rita’s boxer friend. Her mom would smack a racquetball with a racket. Sometimes it would go a bit too far and even though the dog LOVES to swim, she just wouldn’t go get it. We watched many a racquetball drift off into the bay!
Goodbye, ball! 😉
Chuckling – goodbye toy!
Phod would never let that happen, he is too obsessed with both fetch and the water!
Cricket is very obsessed with her balls and fetching, so I was surprised she let it go. She likes the water, but I guess only for wading…not swimming!
Smart girl to know when she’s had enough swim time.
Like Emma said, at least she was out in the water having a good time. Tennis balls aren’t that expensive, so a lost one is nothing to worry about. Besides, who knows maybe next time you take Luke swimming, he’ll be the one to find it.
I never thought of that! Wouldn’t that be funny?
One dogs “ball loss” – could just be another dogs “ball treasure!” At least that’s what I tell myself each and every time we loose one! LOL
I like that thought, and I’m going to go with that too!
Well, Mom, if you’re not willing to get your tootsies wet, what do you expect from Cricket? 🙂
Several of the beagles I’ve fostered loved wearing coats, cuddling under the covers, and hovering near the space heater. I wonder if maybe she’s more sensitive to the cold than a dog with a double coat?
She loves to cool off in the water, and we did go for a walk beforehand. But she still might not have been hot enough to need more than a dip.
She’s a smart girl! Kilo isn’t much of a swimmer at all.
I can completely see myself doing this with our dogs. I’m going to see if my boyfriend wants to join us at the lake this weekend. I keep seeing everyone posting about their swimming dogs and I want to join in the fun!
I hope you get a chance to try it! It is so much fun watching them have a blast in the water (especially if they really love it like our golden Sheba does).
Earl hates getting the tips of his paws wet, so Cricket did a pretty good job!

Awesome! Good job

Haha silly girl! One lost tennis ball, but still some fun in the water, love it!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
That’s ok, Cricket. Another pup may find that ball downstream and think he’s the luckiest dog in the world!
I love that idea! I remember one time we found a ball on a walk, and Sheba was so excited about it!
I’m sure Cricket enjoyed her splash-splashing, even if she didn’t bring the tennis ball back the second time around 🙂 We have one water crazy pup ~ Missy! She’s not into retrieving things, but she will swim, no questions asked! Our boy Buzz on the other hand is not too water crazy, but he loves to retrieve, regardless of where the ball or frisbee lands…if you throw it out into the water, he will go after it and bring it back!
That’s too funny. She knows her limits.
My guys LOVE to swim and will go out quite far, but I still don’t bring the “good” toys. That would of course be the time they say “No!” 😉
Better safe than sorry, I say. You never know when a dog might decide they’re either bored or too tired! Not that I can imagine our golden Sheba getting to that point…but she’s another story!
We haven’t tried swimming yet with Ruby. Last summer was her first summer with us and she didn’t too interested in water. We will see what happens this summer when we visit Wisconsin.
Oh well, it was just a lost tennis ball, not a prized toy or something. At least she was in swimming and having fun while getting some exercise.
While I enjoy a swim, I certainly don’t retrieve. My feeling on the matter is if you throw it, you fetch it!
I think that’s how Cricket feels about it too, unless we’re on land. 🙂
