I am so excited about this one! Now, this bucket list item “Get a special drawing done of her” was probably more for me than Sheba, but that’s OK. I’m sure she’s proud to have this beautiful piece of artwork of herself hanging on our wall.
I wanted to have this done so much, but to be honest, something like this can be expensive. We have three dogs and spend a lot of money on treats and toys (lots of toys to de-stuff was also on her bucket list so we have to keep them coming!). Plus there are so many talented artists out there, how to choose? I was thrilled when our friend Pamela at Something Wagging this Way Comes shared the art of Allison Gray. Her watercolor portraits are colorful, unique, and truly capture the essence of your pet from a photograph. I knew when I saw them that this was the right one.
Plus they are reasonably priced. Each 9 x 12 portrait is only $45 plus shipping (mine ended up being just over $50). Even better, Go Gray Artwork donates $10 of every custom full price portrait ordered to a nonprofit shelter or rescue. I scoured through photographs of Sheba trying to find the perfect one. I wanted one where she was smiling, since she is our happy girl. Allison’s emails were prompt and helpful, and ultimately she helped me to select a photo that would work well.

Here is the final portrait:

My photograph didn’t quite capture the exact colors of the portrait, so they are more vibrant when seen in person. We recently did some rearranging in our house, and that left us with the perfect spot to hang her framed portrait.

I was not compensated for sharing this, I just love it so much I had to. I believe that Allison is booked up for Christmas, but this would make a perfect gift for any time of year. I had thought of saving this one to surprise my hubby with for Christmas, but when I opened up the envelope I just couldn’t wait and had to show him immediately!
You can find Go Gray Artwork in the following places. Check them out to see many other beautiful portraits she has done:
We are not even half way through Sheba’s bucket list yet, she still has lots left to do! She is in surgery today having another lump removed. They call this an “excisional biopsy”. It will be removed and tested to find out exactly what it is. Thank you to everyone who has been keeping her in their thoughts and prayers, we just need to keep them coming for a while longer. I am reassured by the fact that when I dropped her off this morning, our vet tech told me that Sheba does very well under anesthesia. They will be doing blood tests ahead of time to be sure she is healthy for the surgery, and I know that our vet is a very good surgeon. They’ll hopefully keep me posted along the way. However, I’m still a nervous, worried wreck about it and it’s going to be a long day of waiting for good news. I was in tears when I got back in my car after dropping her off, but I know she’s in good hands.
Today we are joining the Thursday Barks & Bytes blog hop. Thank you to our hosts 2 Brown Dawgs blog, and Heart Like a Dog. Apparently the linky tools is not working right now, but we will add it in later when it comes back up.
That is so incredibly life like. I mean it, it turned out so well.
Oh, my goodness! That captures Sheba’s spirit! It’s absolutely beautiful!
Sending some prayers your way xoxoox
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Thank you so much, Jenna! Sheba is doing well so we are taking that as a positive sign.
Sending good thoughts and prayers to you and Sheba for sure!! Beautiful picture of your sweet girl!!
Oh my gosh what a beautiful painting! So glad you got it done. Hope all is well with Sheba and the results come back benign. Have a great weekend.
Golden LOVE it!!!
That came out beautiful. I love it!
Thanks so much for trying to join the hop. The darn thing was a bust because linky’s host was having server issues. I took the linky off my blog because it was preventing my post from loading. I think I will not put it back because I want to make sure their issues are solved and we will be gone (yet again) this weekend. Should be back to business as usual next week.
What a fantastic drawing of Sheba! And you’re right, that’s very affordable.
We LOVE that drawing of Sheba. The colors are so vibrant. We’re purring for Sheba and hope all goes well.
Thank you for those special purrs! She came through the surgery fine but they found many more lumps that had to be removed, and that is concerning. But right now she is recovering well and feeling OK in spite of a 6 inch long incision. Right now we’ll focus on her healing and try not to worry too much about what it all means, we won’t have lab results for a few days.
We are with you in thought and prayer for Sheba and you. It’s never easy to go through this, even when you’ve done it before and know the surgeon is excellent. It’s the outcome we’re all nervous about, which is always so darned unpredictable. Time always seems to slow down to an infuriating crawl when waiting for news. We’re with you in spirit and are praying for a good report.
POTP that her surgery goes well. What a lovely painting.
Sheba’s portrait is absolutely gorgeous! I hope she feels better soon from her surgery and fingers crossed it’s nothing serious! <3
It’s beautiful!!
We just won an artwork by Art of AJ – http://www.theartofaj.com/
I love her work too! It’s very different from the one you had done. Now I want one of those too!
I am familiar with AJ, and love her work as well! She gives away a lot and I’m always trying to win one of hers. Good for you that you did!
OMD, I love that picture of Sheba! And decided I HAVE TO have one of Callie! I showed it to Sam and he agreed. Now I have to get in touch with Allison. ????
Oh, Sue, I do hope you get in touch with Allison and have Callie’s portrait done! I just know how happy it will make you, and I look forward to seeing one of her as well!
Actually, I did contact her the other night. To make a short story shorter, we will be back in contact after the holidays. I definitely want a drawing of Callie to put in the living room.
Love that – great photo of Sheba too.
We are sending our thoughts and prayers to Sheba and you! I love, love ,love the painting. It is fabulous. ☺
I’m sending good thoughts Sheba’s way my friend! It’s so hard when they are having surgery. Sampson is having a tooth pulled in January and I know I’ll be a wreck.
Thanks for joining the blog hop, I hope he gets it fixed soon!
Looks really cheery and bright! We have so many photos, there is no room for drawings.
A beautiful picture! I might check that out.
Please let us know when Sheba is home. Hugs and lots of love to sweet Sheba.
I love that, it’s an awesome portrait.
Oops, I almost forgot. Hope all goes well with Sheba’s bump today. I know you’ll be worried until she’s back home with you. And even afterwards until you hear back about the biopsy.
Keeping you in our thoughts today.
Thank you for your thoughts on Sheba too. It was a long day, and so much better when she was finally home. The important thing right now is that she’s doing pretty well in spite of the huge incision. There were more lumps than just the one we had found. Now for more waiting…but at least we can focus on keeping her comfortable and quiet. I’ll write a full post for Monday on what we know at this point.
Sheba’s portrait looks adorable! I think you found the perfect artist to show off her spirit. Allison is excellent at catching a dog’s expressions too.
And you found the perfect place for the picture too. I love the warmth it brings to that corner.
Thanks so much for sharing. I was really hoping Allison would find it worthwhile to place an ad on Something Wagging. I love her work so much.
Thank you, Pamela, I am so glad I found her through you! I do think she caught Sheba’s expression perfectly. I hope to have the other dogs done at some point as well.
Sheba that’s wonderful… and there is your fabulous golden smile and efuryybuddy will smile back… even the Grinch or Grumpy Cat… I bet!
