We’re getting hard pressed to find new things to photograph for Nature Friday. We’re bored with all the snow photos, even though it’s still been pretty out in the woods with snow covering the trees. We haven’t gotten any big storms lately, but we’ve had some smaller ones. It’s been enough that Snow Mountain has now outdone itself. The inset photo is from March of last year, we had shared it in one of our last Nature posts, where I wondered if this March would outdo last year’s and it has!

On the bright side, the temperatures have been warmer! Luke and I have been out walking much more, but there is still a lot of snow on the ground. We keep having to chase the guinea hens out of the road, because if they are not up in the trees to get out of the snow that’s where they go. Luckily our dirt road is so muddy right now, vehicles can’t go very quickly. However, I was just outside before writing this, bribing the guinea hens out of the road with a bag of dried worms because the oil truck going by had to beep at them when they wouldn’t get out of the way!!

I did find these couple of birds’ nests when outside with Luke in the yard. It’s fun to see them, because in the summer with the leaves on, you can’t! Though we did know there were birds nesting there, because we’d see them flitting in and out of the bushes.

It seems snow is covering their little homes too. 🙂 I wonder if they come back and use the same nests again? I do know there is a nest in the barberry bush every year, though I think they make new ones. It’s the only reason I don’t ask my hubby to cut that bush down!
We can sense that spring is on the way. The snow is melting, just very slowly, and as you can see there’s a lot to go! Some days I feel like we’ll never have smooth trails, see out our kitchen window, or see our gardens or anything green again. However, hope springs eternal, as it does every March.
Thank you to our friends at Living, Laughing & Barking in Our Backyard, for hosting the Nature Friday blog hop. Please visit them and other blogs through the links below!
We got more snow Friday night, but it warmed up and melted and we are just about snow-free right now. Fingers crossed it heads your way!
Oh lucky you! It’s amazing what a difference just a few hundred miles can make!
Wow dat are a lot of snow!!! It were spring here but now it’s back to winter fur a few days…. Love all the birds nests Mama gets to see all da squirrel nests up in our big oaks when it are winter.
xoxo,
Matt & Matilda
Yes! We’ve seen huge squirrel nests, way up high, too!
I love seeing nests in the winter too! Our magpies make huge nests and use the same ones year after year. I’m so glad that you’ve been able to get outside. I feel the same way as you do – as if the trails will never ever be smooth again!!!
Stay safe, guinea fowl!
While still not ideal, it’s been SO good to get out there more!
Excellent choices for today’s post! The first one is really cool.
Thank you!!
You could ski down that mountain of snow! 😉
That’s for sure!!!
I’ve had enough. But we hardly have any snow left in our yards, even though we live near you. Our yard and driveway is a big ice skating rink. Not loving that either! Come on, Spring! 🌻
The ice is the worst! Luckily our driveway melted down to gravel. Thank goodness!
I still think your snow is beautiful…although I bet you have had enough! Here’s hoping the robins return to their nests soon!
It has it’s beauty….but that gets old after a while (about 3 months or so)!
Melting snow sure seems like a plus to me. I’m glad you’re able to do the out n’ about thing Luke!
Gail and I love all the Nature Friday posts from around the world and see no harm at all in the odd bit of repetition.
Spring is surely on the way!
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
We sure hope you are right about that, Bertie!!
Oh goodness that’s a lot of snow. Way too much for me. I’m not a snow person. I’m sure I’d fall down and hurt myself as soon as it snowed.
Have a fabulous day and weekend. Scritches to my buddy, Luke. ♥
Staying upright is a challenge for me all winter long! LOL
♥
WOW! That’s A LOT of snow! We’ve had rain all winter – our only snow came at the beginning of December – but even Ducky would get tired of that much of the white stuff!
By March, just about everyone here has had enough of it (except those that love skiing).
We have seen lots of nests too. Mom is so ready for spring to arrive!
Luke will take whatever comes, but the Mom here is totally ready for spring too!
Glad to hear someone else is tired of photographing snow scenes. And after this week’s “bomb cyclone” with hurricane force winds and more snow, I like your approach. Branches this time of year are so interesting and especially highlight the sky. Particularly love the snowcapped nest. Misery loves company, doesn’t it? LOL
Well done! Have a super weekend.
Oh yes, it certainly does!!! LOL
When the snow melts, do you just have mud puddles everywhere? That is a LOT of snow. It seems that we have a mess when we get our blizzards of 2″ snow mountains! Bahahaha!
Yes. We actually have an additional season between winter and spring, and it’s called “mud season”. It’s a big mess until things dry out!! 🙂
we hope they all come back and sing for you and Luke… maybe the rockin’ robin song?
We hope so!! 🙂
Love all your snow. Ours is a mess after three days of pouring rain. Today it is ice since we dipped below freezing. Spring is just a mess as always. Happy Friday!
Spring is definitely messy! We still have a lot of snow left, even though it’s been a bit warmer. The bonus is that the snow is so easy to walk on if we get out in the morning before it softens!
The weather and your birds sure keep you on your toes!
There’s never a dull moment around here! 🙂
