Luke always wants to play not long after he finishes his supper. He will whine at me until I give in and entertain him. Since I don’t want him running hard outside right after eating, I think it’s best to play with him inside where he’s a little less intense.
When our golden Sheba was still alive and feeling well, I could often get her to take over for me and play with him for a while. With her gone, I am the one; Cricket doesn’t play after dinner, she goes straight to the couch or her bed for a nap. With the nicer weather, she might wander around in the yard some, but she’s not interested in any intense activity (this week I’ll be telling you about something funny she has been doing in the evenings though).
I’ve said it before, Luke loses interest in toys quickly, and always wants something new. A while ago we saw some cute rubber toys on our friend Emma’s blog, that are her sister Bailie’s favorite. I thought they looked like something Luke would like since they squeak so I ordered a set from amazon.

The set came with two different pigs and a chicken (I love that they are farm animals!). He chose one of the pigs initially and quickly killed the squeaker in it with some obsessive chewing (which is what he does if I don’t continually throw it for him!).
The next time I got the toys out he wasn’t so interested. He’d take one at first and then just drop it. The three toys came inside a mesh bag and after he rejected all three, I put them back in the bag…..and that piqued his interest. He wanted the whole bag so I gave it to him and that turned out to be the key.
In the video below you will see what fun he has flinging the bag around until all the toys fly out. Lately he has ironically been choosing the chicken to play with after that (uh-oh, I hope that’s not a bad sign for OUR chickens!). But he is still not interested unless he gets them all in the bag first, and gets to toss them out. Or, as seen in the video, sometimes he chooses to just chew on one while it’s still in the bag.
If you are interested in these toys for your dog, here is our amazon affiliate link for it (just click on the photo):
It never ceases to amaze me how they are able to find their own source of entertainment.
Storm is definitely interested in the sound of the squeaker but she would kill it in no time…lol.
It always amazes me when Luke doesn’t kill one, but this one is still surviving!
Those look like great fun, Luke. And we like your choice of the chicken … it looks ESPECIALLY fun! 🙂
Mmmmmm….chicken…..right? 🙂
Love, Luke
How cute! I hope that it’s not a bad omen for your chickens, too. I don’t let Barley and Rye have toys that look like cats for just that reason 😉
We got a toy in Pet Treater once that was a dog. It seemed weird when they ripped that one apart! LOL. Oh, and Cricket still likes to chew on the head of it to this day!
What a cutie! I hope he enjoys those toys for a long time! The collies aren’t too into toys, and rarely squeak them. Which is a good thing I guess, it would be chaotic if they were all squeaking toys at the same time!
Oh yes, trust me, multiple squeaking is definitely chaotic! Our late golden Sheba used to love to squeak too, and if she and Luke both got going at the same time…..(I think I once wrote a post called “Squeak Off” with video for the full effect).
Luckily Cricket isn’t into squeaky toys!
Of course the bag is much more fun than the toys. Those are very cute toys indeed.
I thought that was a cat thing. 🙂
It looks like it’s as much fun as destuffing a stuffie! I bet you enjoyed watching him play like that.
Luke is always good for some entertainment! 🙂
I think that I’d love Luke! He is such a wonderful character 🙂
The joy he gives us more than make up for the challenges. ♥
Adorable!!
Luke makes those toys look like lots of fun!
The company should maybe hire him for promotions! 🙂
We’re glad to hear Luke is figuring out how to entertain himself. 🙂
Bentley would LOVE the way these squeak! It looks like Luke is his own best play buddy. LOL!
I guess he had to learn that being the only young boy in a house of senior sisters! 🙂
You do ‘pawsome’ production work! Love the wagging tails and nose coming toward the camera at the end. Pawfect and smile-worthy fun!
Luke makes my job easy with his silliness. 🙂 ♥
Luke is one smart boy, he figures things out. That’s really funny that he’s gravitating toward the chicken toy…and I’m with you, I hope it’s just a funny coincidence and not forewarning! 😉 I like to think that he just feels a bond with anything chicken-shaped. 🙂
We’ll go with that thought! 🙂
Luke is a cutie. Thank you for the kind words you left on my loss of Snowball. XO
You are very, very welcome. I hope you are doing OK, or at least as well as possible. ♥
You’re a fun guy Luke! Have a fun week everyone!
They look like great toys! I might buy a set for Ducky, once I’m through with the course and can spend more time actually playing with her. (I wouldn’t dare let her just chew on them. She’s so quick she might swallow a squeaker.)
Glad Luke is enjoying his new game!
They can be so fast, can’t they? Luke was barely alone with that pig at all before he had killed the squeaker. And he would have gleefully continued his destruction if I hadn’t stopped him! I’m not sure what kind of squeaker is in it though, I think it’s different, not one of those round flat ones. But either way, we don’t want them eating plastic parts!
Bailie has not been able to kill the squeakers yet, but she loves all the animals! Glad Luke is having some fun with them!
He at least hasn’t killed any squeakers since that first one. The chicken has a little tear in it but still squeaks away and fills back up with air after he flattens it! 🙂
love it!!! you are a kind of james bond luke, you like your toys shaked and not stirred :O)
