A week or two ago I was in the bathroom getting ready for the day when I heard a rustling sound coming from our open closet. There is a small trash can in there up on a shelf (out of dogs’ reach), lined with a plastic grocery bag; but why, I wondered, would the trash can bag be moving? The windows weren’t open to a breeze. Immediately my mind goes to the thought of a mouse in the trash can, or maybe even a giant spider, big enough to make the bag rustle.
I chose to ignore it initially, maybe I didn’t hear what I thought I did. But then there it went again….rustle, rustle. The thought also went through my mind that one of the cats might be in there. So I went over to look, and even though I had that in my mind, I jumped about a foot when I saw something black moving in the basket in the back! “Oh, goodness, Samantha, you scared the heck out of me!”
Now, of all the places to lay in the house, why on earth would that silly cat choose to lay in a basket full of plastic grocery bags?
Especially when there is a totally empty basket right in front of it, and one next to it with rags in it?
That’s our Samantha for you. I eventually took the plastic bags out of it for her, since she kept returning to it. Lately she’s been alternating between sleeping in there, and out on our screened in porch.
Happy Black & White Sunday!

Haha! There’s no figuring us cats out!
And you like it that way, don’t you? 🙂
Cute! Cats are so funny with their hiding places.
And just when you’ve figured out where they’re hiding, they change it up!
My Chaos used to sleep in the bathroom linen closet. I had to leave the door open so he wouldn’t get shut in there. He used to snuggle with the towels though. He also used to curl up in the bathroom sink! Bottom line, cats sleep wherever they want to! 🙂 Love that Samantha! I’ll know where to look if she’s missing when I babysit!
Samantha has been known to be shut into places more than once! Just when we think we have found all of her spots, she finds someplace new. So good luck….there has a been a couple times when we never did figure out where she’d been hiding!
She’s so cute in there! I must say, though, I would have shut the door and let my husband check out the noise – I definitely don’t need to see a spider big enough to make a bag rustle! 🙂
Unfortunately, hubby wasn’t home….so it was either investigate or ignore it, and then I would have worried about what and where it was! I certainly hope I never see a spider that big either!
Love that last picture! Priceless! I have been reading about Moses and am so sorry. He was beautiful. May he rest in peace. Sending lots of thoughts, prayers and hugs your way.
Oh, thank you so much for the hugs and prayers. We need them so much right now. At least having the other animals to entertain us helps to keep our minds off things sometimes. It doesn’t make us miss Moses any less, however.
Cats…does anyone really understand them? I think there is a reason they tend to be loners…they don’t even understand each other but I love my kitties anyway!
No, I don’t think anyone truly understands cats, Emma. I think they work hard to maintain that air of mystery! But we do still love them in spite of that!
That is too cute and I can tell you exactly why! Be careful! My Cody is plastic bag OBSESSED. He chews them (and many other cats do too). I asked the vet why he does this and the vet said that plastic grocery store bags are made with corn syrup!!! It is the corn syrup that attracts the kitties!! I have to watch Cody like a hawk with them!
Oh, that is funny, Caren! Our late cat, Katie, used to love to chew on anything plastic, but I never knew that about grocery bags! I guess I will have to be keeping an eye on Samantha, now that she’s found the stash!
