I’ve mentioned here and there that we are trying to sell our house. I don’t talk too much about it because I don’t want to jinx anything. We first listed it on a whim, with the idea that if we sold, fine, if we didn’t, fine. We mostly love our current home but we just want some different things now. That was all fine until we found another home to buy and fell in love with it. Sheba tells me there is no such thing as jinxes, so I’m going to tell you just a couple of things about that home (we currently have a contract to buy it). It is the perfect home for the dogs, which is our #1 priority. It has 17 acres of land for making our own trails to walk and snowshoe on, and it has enough seasonal wet areas that it is ideal land for putting in a pond. That is something I have long wanted for the dogs. Loading them up in the car to go swimming, and hoping the places I go will be quiet for our reactive Luke doesn’t make things easy. The main living area of this house is one floor – perfect for dogs’ (and aging humans’) joints.
Anything that helps us reach that goal is welcome, so when FreshWave offered me a chance to try out their all natural odor removing products, it seemed like the perfect time to do so. Plus they are happy to give away the same products we received to one of our lucky readers (giveaway widget at end of post).
If you’ve ever sold your house, you might know about staging and trying to keep your house spotless for each and every showing. When you have a pet or multiple pets – in our case, 4 – that brings the keeping clean part to a new level. Not only is trying to keep the fur cleaned up time challenging, but so is keeping the house fresh and clean smelling.
There are a lot of odor removing (or covering up) products out there, most do it artificially. I have a very sensitive nose and find many of those products (I won’t name the one very popular one that they are putting in everything lately) cloying. I even find that many scented candles bother me. I love candles but I’m one of those people that has to limit their time in candle shops because my nose just gets overwhelmed, and that can lead to headaches. It’s not only that. I don’t want to be burning candles or spraying strong scents before our house is shown, because I think that overwhelming smell might make it seem like we’re trying to cover something up!
That is the first thing I love about FreshWave – the scent is mild and not overwhelming. It is not a scent for covering up odors; these products are meant to remove odors, and I think it works. These odor eliminators use the power of nature to do that. There are no harsh chemicals, no harmful or toxic ingredients, and no masking fragrances. The only ingredients are water and essential plant oils. Therefore they are safe for pets, humans, and the environment. Living a natural lifestyle is important to me, and this fits right in. I don’t like spraying things around that might be harmful for any of us to breathe in.
We immediately put the jar of odor removing gel in the pantry where Sam’s kitty litter is, our worst place for odors in the house. I have not once walked in there since and smelled something bad. I had been smelling something odd every time I opened the door of our laundry room too. My hubby couldn’t smell it (again, that sensitive nose of mine), and we could not figure out where it was coming from. I put one of the odor removing packs on the shelf behind the washer/dryer and have not smelled anything since.
I also put one of those packs under the bags in each trash can and under the kitchen sink. They would also be ideal for gym bags, shoes, boats, car interiors, and any other small space you can think of. We had three showings this week and before them I took the bottle of spray and sprayed the dog beds, furniture and just around in the air. Sam has a bad habit of not always using her kitty litter, and using the shower in our master bath instead…ugh. I used extra spray in there to get out any lingering smells!

I believe it helped a lot. We have multiple dog/cat beds in our house – I can count 7 off the top of my head. Some are put away for now, and most I put away before we have a showing to keep things de-cluttered. But I have so much stuff stashed everywhere, I can get the beds out of sight (stashed under furniture) but not out of sniffing range so they get a spray too, along with the rugs and the furniture. Luke literally sleeps on every couch and stuffed chair in this house, and the braided rug is a favorite place for all of them.

After spraying the whole house, I walked around and the most I could smell was just a light citrus-y scent; nothing obvious and nothing cloying.

It’s a funny coincidence that we actually got our first offer on the house after I started using FreshWave! We doubt this offer is going to work out (I won’t bore you with the reasons why since I’ve rambled on long enough), so I’ll be keeping that bottle of FreshWave handy, along with extra gel packs (which last up to 60 days). I look forward to using it to keep our new home fresh and odor free as well (knock wood)!

Catching this after the contest ended – but I’m still happy I read about this, will check out their website. Thanks
I’m behind again – and missed another giveaway – but we have a Target store about 2-3 miles up the road so I should be able to pick up some of the gel packs and the spray once this storm moves out.
Hoping the contract on the current house works out for you!!
I REALLY need this. LOL When I took Sampson to the vet yesterday I told the tech, damn but he really needs a bath. 🙂
Loving the sound of this!!!
Wishing all my U.S pals good luck in the giveaway!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
I could use a little deodorizer around here…lol.
These would be great for around the dog’s bed and in the bathroom!
I am so impressed at you selling the house with the pups in the house. We moved out for a week while we put our house on the market. Honey hair is more than I could keep up with.
Is the active ingredient in Fresh Wave tea tree oil? I have some boat deodorizers that are a gel made with tea tree oil that are fabulous.
Hope the right buyer comes along soon so you can proceed with your dream house.
Trust me, I’m getting tired of the daily house work to keep the fur down! But real estate just doesn’t move fast enough in this area to making moving out an option.
No, there is no tea tree oil in this. Lime, cedarwood, pine needle, aniseed, and clove are the essential oils listed. I can imagine the small enclosed area of a boat is definitely a place you need some air fresheners!
Thank you…we are so ready to move on at this point!
Just love the fresh wave products. I put one in my car too!
That’s a good idea! That’s another place where one of those hanging scented things can be overwhelming.
The litter box is the worse so really need it there. Would really like to freshen up the whole house.
Thank you for the review. And I hope you find exactly what you are looking for in a new house!!
i have two service dog one shed ad other doesnt and then they are in the living room an then in the office
We did a review of FreshWave a while back and we really liked it. It smelled good without being overpowering.
Fabulous review and this product sounds interesting. I like that you said the scent was “gentle” and not overwhelming! Thanks for the opportunity!
We love the smell of Fresh Wave too! Mom is so afraid for someone to come in the house and smell dog! In fact she needs to spray down our beds again since we went without baths for awhile because of the cold. Have you thought about, or is there some way for you to put a litter box upstairs for Sam? Since she is aging it might be helpful for her to have more than one litter box. Love Dolly
We have thought about that, Dolly, thank you. Because the dogs are an issue getting into the kitty litter, we just have no good place to put it upstairs for Sam. But if we can’t sell, we might have to come up with something…I’m just not sure what! As much as it’s frustrating, we don’t get upset with Sam for her accidents. I don’t blame her for not wanting to go all the way downstairs at her age!
This sounds like a great product. I know that I worry about being “noseblind” to the smells from our dogs.
I think when you live with it all the time, it’s easy to just get used to it, and not even notice it. We had more of an issue when we had an elderly cat…I did notice when I walked in the house that it smelled bad. The poor old guy has passed on now, and we had to replace some carpet in order to finally get rid of the smell.
Mom is always concerned our home smells fresh

Good luck with selling your house! Fresh Wave sounds like an awesome brand!
We are thinking about selling our home and this would be terrific to relieve the worry of unpleasant dog smells.
When we were looking for a new home, one place had a curry/garlic odor that knocked us out before we even came in, We didn’t come in…
Good idea passing on that! I think garlic might be one odor you could never get rid of! We looked at one house that had a very odd smell…I couldn’t figure out what it was, but I just knew I did not like it! We did go in…but ultimately passed on it.
This seems like a pretty cool product. I feel like I’m always trying to get rid of some stinky smell or another around here. Good luck with your house! It would be awesome if your dogs could get their very own pond.
I’m so glad that if my hopes of moving this year pan out, I only have to worry about the buying part since I rent! But with a cat with bladder issues, odor removal products are things I’m also looking for–and you’re right, a lot of them do have really overwhelming scents (and there’s nothing worse than the smell of cat pee mingling with a nice spiced cider-scented candle). We’ve had a lot of success with removing odor from our apartment by using white vinegar mixed with water in the steam cleaner rather than a cleaning product and also with hanging up some moisture-collecting bags in the living room, but every now and then things still just smell like pets (especially the loveseat Barley is allowed on). We’d definitely be interested in trying these out in the living room!
I love to use white vinegar for cleaning, but some people don’t like the smell of that either (my sister has said that). That’s exciting that you might be buying this year – yes, it sure is easier not having to deal with the selling part too! We had this house built to our specs, and it was really exciting, though stressful in it’s own way. But at that time we were renting so that part was easier (though I do remember having to give notice on our rental, and our house almost not being ready in time to move!).
It is exciting! I’m just starting the looking process now, but I’m hoping I find the right place for us sometime this year 🙂 I’ll be sending lots of good luck vibes your way that everything falls into place and you aren’t having to stress about the cleaning too much longer 🙂
Looking at houses is so much fun! The selling part is frustrating…but we are negotiating a contract right now so fingers crossed everything goes through! Your vibes must be working. 🙂 Though we still have to show in case this contract doesn’t work out, so the housework part isn’t quite over yet!
Many buyers are really put off by odors in homes. It is not just pets, but many cultures have very strong cooking smells, there are those that have to smoke in their home. So many challenges. Hope this really helps you get your place sold so you can stop having showings and get to moving!
Thank you, Emma, I hope so too. I am so ready to get this place sold and move on – literally!!
what a timing! my mother just said her bed has a weird smell… and instead to take a shower she blamed it on me… scandalous! I think I will buy that pump spray, some splashes on my fur will do the trick and I haven’t to take a bath :o)
First of all GOOD LUCK with the house selling! We came close a couple of years ago – even had contract on a new house accepted and contract on THIS house accepted then changed our mind (!!!)…….it was just impossible to leave this place in the end. ANYWAY, your house is gorgeous so I’m sure you’ll have it sold in no time – the new place with all the acreage sounds FABULOUS for all of you. This product line for keeping the house fresh sounds ideal – – – – we’d love to win……and if that doesn’t happen, we’ll be looking into it anyway! Thanks for the info.
Hugs, Sammy and Mom Pam
You’re welcome, and good luck in the giveaway! I remember when you had your house almost sold, but then decided to stay! My hubby I think wants to stay here in a way. But we’ve both always dreamed of having lots of land – but we’re trading a house with so many upgrades we’ve done, to an older house that needs a lot of upgrading. But we like the thought of that challenge too!
Things were quiet through the holidays, but have picked up lately, so we hope something happens soon (the other offer fell through like we thought it would).
