Back in November I shared the story of our Golden Retriever Sheba and her diagnosis of arthritis this past summer. I also shared the new joint supplement we had started giving her and how much it was helping. You can read that post about Natural Stride joint supplement “Keeping Our Arthritic Dog Active” here. We are still pleased with how Sheba has been faring since her diagnosis. Even with the winter cold her limp is only seen occasionally and it is mild. She is still staying active playing fetch and walking. Our goal has been to keep her active and off of pain killers and that is still where we are happily at.
In my original post I told you about the Natural Stride powder that we added to her food, and how much she loved it. The good news is that Natural Stride is now available in chew form! I know that a lot of us find that more convenient. We didn’t mind the powder form, but the chewable supplements are easier to deal with for many. We wondered how Sheba would like the chew form, because she really loved the taste of the powder, and the beagles were attracted to the smell also. I opened the bag of chews to look at them, and Cricket followed me around everywhere with her nose in the air! Sheba loves the chews also. At first my hubby thought they seemed a bit hard and thought Sheba had a little bit of a hard time chewing one.
As you can see from the picture on the bag, the shape is somewhat different from other supplements that we’ve used. However, it tells you right on the bag that you can microwave each chew for 10-15 seconds to soften them. So he tried that the next time and it was great! Sheba chewed it right up with no problem, and loved it. If you have a smaller dog that doesn’t need a whole tablet, microwaving it will also make it easier for you to cut into the size you need.
If you have a dog with joint pain, arthritis, or hip dysplasia I think you will pleased with the convenience and results with this product. The new chew form has the same benefits as the powder (we’ve seen no difference since switching over), and they are also available in regular strength (for less severe cases, maintenance, and as a preventative) and veterinary strength (for more severe cases). The company stands behind their products by offering a 60 Day Money Back Guarantee. I have heard great things about this product. Thunder will be 8 in March and while he doesn’t have any specific issues, his orthopedic vet suggested we think about a supplement when he turns 8. This is one we will consider. Thanks for the review.
You’re welcome! I hope this turns out to be something that will work for Thunder if you decide to try it.
Hey Sheba
Glad they’re working so well buddy and you’re getting to run around and have fun!
Wags to all,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Thanks, Snoopy!! I am glad too because I really hate having to slow down!!
Love, Sheba
That’s great news! I hate doping the dogs up, but still you want to keep them feeling well. I’m glad this product is working for Miss Sheba!!
Thanks! We try not to give anything that isn’t really needed. It’s good to know there are products out there that are trustworthy, especially these days.
Hey Jan,
I saw your comment on my blog about me making you nervous about your new lab mix puppy. I wanted to take a minute to reassure you. Sampson is a lab mix and we’ve had him since he was 8 weeks old and he is THE BEST DOG EVER! Delilah is a good girl, but she came to us at 18 months and we have no idea what her background was. I think that has a lot to do with how she behaves around food. I firmly believe it’s how you raise them and since you will be getting your Luke at an early age, I think you’ll be fine! I mean, you already have perfectly wonderful dogs!!
That is so nice of you to say, Jodi! I have always loved labs, and am excited about having another mix. I am sure it’s going to be great, and that he won’t be stealing raw chicken out of the sink! Your Delilah just amazes me with her cleverness! 🙂
It is so wonderful that some good things are available to help!
It is, isn’t it, Brian? We’re glad we found this one.
Ah, that’s such good news, Jan, glad to hear the supplements are still helping Sheba girl!
Thanks, Lynn!!
we are so pleased Sheba is doing well. 🙂 xxxoooxxxxx
Mollie and Alfie
Thank you, sweeties! xxxxooooo
Ah barely enough snow to cover the ground! Glad Sheba is doing better now!!
Great to hear!!!
Thank you! We’ve gotten a couple inches of snow this week….not enough yet but getting better!
Great review! Nice to see how the chews worked out for your dogs also. Shiner loved her powder, but she also really likes these chews.
Thank you, Ann! I think we could go either way, chews or powder. I think it just comes down to which is easier for us…or I should say my husband. He’s the one up at 5:30am feeding them breakfast!
So glad that Sheba is doing better with this supplement! My dog is thankfully showing now signs of arthritis (yet)…he’s 9…but I will keep this product in mind should he be diagnosed with arthritis in the future! 🙂
Thank you, Sheryl. Gosh, I didn’t realize Benji was that old! So far Cricket is doing OK too, but if we see any signs of anything we’re going to put her on this immediately. We may even start it as a preventative but haven’t decided that yet.
Roxy is suffering with her arthritis right now. poor thing.
Oh no, poor Roxy. I know she can’t take this because of her glucosamine allergy. I hope she’ll get better when you get someplace warmer?
I’m glad that Sheba is doing much better on her supplement. Keep it up, great review!
We are so glad too. We were really worried when she first got diagnosed. Thank you!
Wooohooooowoooo for Sheba!
Thanks, Ku!!!
