Why not write about wine on our pet blog? After all, our tagline does say “Barking about….our purr-suit of happiness” and a nice glass of wine in the evening makes me happy. When I sit on the couch to watch the news with my glass, Luke is happily right beside me as well. The fact is, it’s our blog and we can write about whatever we want, right? However, people come here to read about pets. So if I have some extraneous subject I want to go on about….then my job is to come up with a way to tie that into the subject of pets.
Even if you’re not a wine drinker, you might be curious to know how I can do that, and it was easier than you might think. 😊
So here it is, wine and dogs – yes, cats too – go together….just look at the evidence:

What else? Well, wine and chickens! The bottle of French white seen above is one of my favorite wines and did you notice it has chickens on the label? Do you know your French? The name of this wine “La Vieille Ferme” translates to “The Old Farm” (thanks to my sister for looking that up!), which I love of course! I enjoy both the white and the Rosé. I haven’t tried the red yet, I avoid reds due to migraines, but I might just try it one of these days (if I stick to one glass it’s usually OK).

Now, I’m not going to tell you that I’m some wine connoisseur who goes to wine tastings and can identify “citrus notes” or a “hint of chocolate”. I just know what I like, and a nice Sauvignon Blanc with a bit of a grapefruit-y taste is my favorite, as well as a nice dry French Rosé. I also enjoy some different whites, and La Vieille Ferme white is made with a blend of grapes.
This wine also retails just under $10 per bottle, but you’d never know from the taste. One of my worries with less expensive wines is that they can also lead to headaches, but this wine has never led to one in me! It’s also often on sale at our state liquor stores, sometimes even at 2/$10! That’s “stock up” time right there.
What does the rest of the label read? Well, “Recolte” means harvest, and the line at the bottom “Mis en couteille par la Vieille ferme” is “bottled by the old farmhouse”.
By the way, we affectionately call it “the chicken wine” around here. Someone reading my occasional text to my hubby at work might wonder about “Honey, could you bring me home a bottle of chicken wine?” I was surprised to see that the vineyard refers to it that way on their social media accounts as well!

I definitely need more pet wine glasses, I had one more that my friend painted for me, but it got broken. I think, perhaps something like this might be in order (click on the photo to be taken to amazon where you can buy one – *affiliate link:
Tell us, do you enjoy a nice glass of wine, and do any of your favorite wines have animals on the label?
What a cool bottle of wine! Love all the glasses. I’ll have a glass of wine with you!!
That would be FUN!!
I’m glad you found what you like at a reasonable price. I’m not a wine person myself, but my husband enjoys a glass on the regular. Chicken wine sounds like a good way to go!
Maybe your hubby will try it sometime! 🙂
Love it! I think this proves that wine goes with EVERYTHING. Cheers.🍷
Absolutely!! Cheers!!
Love the Rose Chicken wine and a grapefruity Sauvignon Blanc! Served in either a cute wine glass from Auntie Sheryl (in dog years I’ve only had one!) Or a pretty glass made by Aunt Connie (sunflowers for me, but I adore the cat and moon one!). Cheers to the farm!
In dog “wines”, not years, whoops!
Cheers!! Thanks for looking up that stuff about the chicken wine!! I think I need to save a bottle from each and put them on display.
I’m sure I gave you one of those? But what ever happened to the one that said “It’s not drinking alone if the dog is home!?” 😁🍷🐾. You know I love a glass of good French Rose!
Yup, you gave us the “dog wine” ones. The not drinking alone one is good too, and they make that for both dogs and cats. I’m so glad you are able to drink your Rose again! 🙂
Great wine glasses. If I ever get to meet you, I will give you some of my hubby’s homemade wine. He makes grape, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry and many others.
Oh boy, that sounds yummy!!!
We enjoy wine but are definitely not any time of wine connoisseur. My father-in-law used to make muscadine wine that was quite tasty.
That sounds interesting! My sister’s boyfriend tried making some wine too, he even made some Sauvignon Blanc that was pretty good!
Thank you for the wine tip and I will try it. There is nothing better than sitting in my comfy chair with my dog Alex snuggled next to me and reading a good book and sipping a good glass of wine ( and eating some nibbles)!
FYI: Monday is drink a glass of wine day!!
I enjoy your blog!!!
Yes, add a book and some snacks and it’s absolutely perfect!! I am so glad you enjoy the blog, thank you SO much for saying so!
Hubby and I like champagne best and these glasses would be wonderful to have. We all love furrbabies.
Have a fabulous day and weekend. Cheers. ♥
The “chicken wine” comes in a nice Rose sparkling wine, I think. 🙂
Wine brings me happiness, that’s for sure. Except I can’t have nice glass, glasses. Too breakable when bouncing down the road.
I can imagine! I see where they are making some nice ones with stainless steel and lids on them now. Like wine sippy cups. LOL. Perfect for outdoor use, especially where it’s warm. My friend got me one when she was on vacation at the beach, so I imagine they make them with dogs and cats on them too.
The Mom and Dad enjoy some wine every once in a while but they don’t have any cool glasses like those!
They need to get some for sure then!! 🙂
we say yes to more glasses with pet related things and for us a wine is tasty or not LOL
Yup, it’s either good, or it’s swill!! LOL
That wine fits your blog perfectly. Cute wine glasses too. My mom doesn’t drink wine, but if she did, she would be interested in some of these things 🙂
I actually wish they’d make whole dish sets with dogs and cats on them. LOL
Much to my family’s shame, I’m NOT a wine drinker … but I’ll over dogs and cats!
I’M all over …
You can drink anything out of a wine glass, really! 🙂
