We did not forget the chickens and guinea hens on Christmas! Dad got them a huge bag of their favorite meal worms for a treat, and I got them two treat ball toys. I wanted to be sure they would really like them (they are small and at $5 each I didn’t want to get carried away in case they weren’t interested), and now that I know they do I’ll probably get at least a couple more to help keep them entertained this winter. All you do is fill the little ball with food or treats (I used sunflower seeds for the first time), and as they peck at it and it rolls around, the treats fall out! Who knew birds would play with these too, right? π

I left them to it, and by the time I went back outside, they had rolled across the yard (the frozen ground was perfect for these) and were empty. Looks like I’ll be back at Tractor Supply to get some more!
What a good idea for bird enrichment! Yes, they deserve a Christmas treat, too!
We do our best to keep them happy and entertained! π
You are the best bird caretaker EVER! I love seeing how interested they are in those toys. Birds are waay smarter than most people give them credit for. But you know that from your life with birds!
Have you ever seen the videos of chickens being clicker trained?
Thank you so much! Yes, I have learned a lot about birds and they amaze me every day with how smart they are. I will have to look for some of those videos. I did watch one with a chicken doing an agility course – that was crazy! I wish I had nothing but time so I could try those things (you know me, I barely find time to keep up with Luke’s training – LOL).
Happy New Year! We think the birds sure know how to party!
They are a happy crew who make the most of each day!
Birdies have to have fun!! Love it!!

They say there is more to life than just laying eggs. π
This fills me with joy! I love that Santa came to see the birds too.
We are so glad you enjoyed it! β₯
Wonderful and adorable!!
Thank you, Auntie Lynn! Wish you could come and spend more time with the birds!
Wow what a cool toy for the chickens, never thought of toys for them.
Honestly, just like dogs, they get into trouble if we don’t keep them entertained! LOL
How cool to see the birds having so much fun!
It’s amazing how similar they can be to dogs sometimes! π
That is so sweet. Now all you need to do is crochet them some coats π
I think that would keep me busy all year!! LOL
That is totally cute! Wishing you, Luke and the birdies a very happy 2020.
Thank you!!
Awww, it’s good that you took care of the chickens too. Good for you. So cute.
Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches to Luke. β₯
I was used to buying gifts for multiple dogs and cats, so with only one dog now, I had to do something else too! π
I didn’t know they would play with toys. How interesting.
I didn’t know at first either. I’ve learned SO much since we started this!
Looks like the chickens and hens had a great Christmas!
I think they were happy!!
That’s so wonderful and they sure were having lots of fun!!!
Anything that involves food gets them excited! LOL
We never knew that chickens had fun playing with toys!
You’d be amazed how similar they can be to dogs at times!
What a great idea! Who knew chickens would actually play with food toys.
I just happened to see these somewhere, and just had to try it! They really do need to be entertained, or they pretty much trash the garage and barn. (I call them the wrecking crew – they get on everything and knock things off all the time!)
