We made it! It was touch and go for a while there. My plan to do the majority of our Idita-Walk minutes in late March, when I thought the weather would be better, was almost thwarted by Mother Nature. With two weeks to go, we were less than half way there….which meant needing to walk an average of 35-40 minutes per day if we walked every day. That was not so un-achievable, or at least I didn’t think so, until we got 6-8 inches of snow on March 19th. I have to be honest….on that day I seriously considered just giving up. I was totally ready to, but something kept me going….probably the desire to not have to admit I had failed, and not wanting to let the Team Dogventurers down. We took that day it snowed off, and then we truly did walk every day through the end of the month, except for the last Friday when it was raining and sleeting. After the snowstorm, the weather did improve some, and even became almost Spring-like.
By the final weekend, we still had 3 hours to go. With the help of my sisters for company we walked almost two hours on Saturday and over an hour on Sunday. Success!
The truth is, we never would have walked this much in the late Winter if we hadn’t had this goal to achieve. There were days when I would have easily talked myself out of getting out there. I am so glad we signed up. Some of my plans were interrupted along the way, such as when Kobi was laid up, but I am also happy that I was able to get Sheba and Cricket out there with me. Moses is the worst one for walking on a leash, but my new determination is to also get him out there, starting out slowly working with him. I was ready to take him out one day when I had extra time to work with him, but he hadn’t been feeling well so I didn’t want to stress him out. The two girls need some work also, but overall they were good.

If you’d like to read more about the details and more photos of some of our walks, here are some posts I put up “along the way”:
Here are some more photos of the fun we had:

I want to give a big thanks to You Did What with Your Weiner for organizing this and to all the other bloggers on our Team Dogventurers who signed up and helped organize the team. Some of them finished early, and that only helped to motivate me more. You can follow the blog hop links below to see how they all did. Now, what will my next motivation be? Hopefully when the Spring weather really gets here to stay (supposedly the day after tomorrow) that will be all the motivation I need. It also doesn’t hurt that Gizmo may have some things up his sleeve…..we may need that competitive spirit to keep us going!
Beautiful photos! Congratulations! 🙂
Thank you, Coralee and Finn! I’m trying to work on my photography skills, so that’s really appreciated!
Good job!
Thank you!
Good for you!
Thank you, Emma, and thank you for your encouragement along the way!
Woot! Another team member checking in with SUCCESS! I read this and feel a little guilty about never walking in snow…not guilty enough to change that, but maybe next year I should take a handicap 🙂
I do have an idea about another challenge…Give me a week or so to get it solid before I post
Maybe we should bring you some snow, just so you can try it! 🙂
It is harder to walk in!!
Can’t wait to hear your idea for the next challenge!
Congratulations on finishing the Idita-Walk!!! The weather certainly did make it quite a challenge, glad you didn’t give up!! I loved your photos…especially Cricket’s snow bath. Oh what fun!
Thank you, Loy! It was fun, wasn’t it? Even in our less than ideal weather!
