Since my regular work away-from-home days are Monday, Wednesday & Friday, Monday holidays can make my long weekend into a 4 day instead of a 3 day. I try hard not to fall into that lazy trap though, when my hubby goes back to work I try my best to make my day into a work day too. So I’m up early and first order of business is usually a run for me, a walk for one of the dogs, and then play time for the whole office crew. Then I get to work on the blog, bookkeeping work (though I have very little now and I’m busy scheming on ways to replace that income while still working from home) and other projects around the house. I try to take Sheba for a swim once a week during the summer too.
I intersperse that with nose work for Luke and sometimes the girls, and we might have another short game of ball after lunch too. I try to get up and moving every so often and not spend my whole day sitting at the computer, because I know that’s not healthy.
This past week was a bit different though, since we had contractors coming to put in some replacement windows; I had to adjust my schedule to be available to keep the dogs out of their way. We’ve been doing this construction stuff off and on since we moved into our new home, and I like to keep the dogs outside if it’s a nice day. The problem is that if I’m inside, they want to be in with me. I can close up the side of the house the contractors are working on, but if they need to ask me a question or something, that will send Luke and Cricket into a barking frenzy; so it’s not the most convenient.

On this day I decided to try taking my computer outside. I always wanted to at our old house but it was too bright outside to see the screen. Here at the new house our deck is shaded though, so it wasn’t too bad! The crew was definitely much happier outside with me out there too, though I did have to bring a bed out there for Princess Cricket.

I really enjoyed working out there too, though the birds flying by my head at times could be distracting! The deck sits next to my nice garden where there are bird feeders, and along with that and an apple and other trees nearby, the birds were pretty active! It was so nice to be out there listening to them sing and flit around.

It’s a pretty good deal, and I couldn’t enjoy working at home more; even when our routines are disrupted by contractors. Wednesday I had to go back to the office at my other job though. Here’s the view from my office where I am a bookkeeper at a small general store:

As you can see, it’s not so bad, but I miss my furry co-workers when I’m there, and I don’t get to take breaks to play ball. 🙂
I used to hate having to leave first Kissy then Callie and Shadow all day. I was actually thrilled when Baldor excessed those of us who couldn’t/didn’t want to move to Arkansas! It meant more time with my girls and less money spent on pet sitters. (It also meant not having to put up with any more corporate BS.) ????
I sure don’t miss working those 8 hour days and 40 hour weeks. At least the dogs don’t have too much time home alone compared to so many others with parents that have to work full time.
And luckily I haven’t had to deal with corporate BS in a long time, since I work for such a small business now. Though my boss can be a PIA at times – LOL!
You garden really looks great. I wish there was a way to see the computer better when outside. I would love to sit outside and blog.
I know, me too! I could do some out there, but if I really needed to see something well, like for choosing and editing photos, it wasn’t the greatest.
That’s a lovely outdoor office you have there 🙂 I enjoy taking my laptop outside as well for some blogging or scheduling work for my dog walking business. I don’t have that much of a pretty view but I do have a covered porch, so sitting out there while it rains is possible! I’ll be doing it a lot more come fall. It’s still a bit too hot right now.
Oh, you’re so lucky to have a covered porch! That must help to block some of the reflections that make it difficult to see the screen too. It’s so nice to sit on a porch on a rainy day too.
We had a bunch of contractors over too and I either took Mr. N out for a walk or we just moved from room to room lol. No outdoor porch options for us!
I love to carry my laptop out on the back porch to work. It is too hot now but the fall is pretty.
I would love to work from home, but I don’t see that in my cards any time soon.
Not a bad view from your other office, I can either see a wall or a lobby. No sun. The good thing is, I can’t tell if it’s raining. 😉
Nice view from your “office!” 🙂
There’s no business than home business… 😀 Pawkisses for a Happy Day 🙂 <3
You make me feel sooo guilty!! 1) I sit at the laptop most of the day 2) I am awful about playing with Cody and Dakota while I am doing other things that I have to do
(Walking away hanging my head in shame)
You probably get more work done than I do; and I wonder why I am perpetually behind on everything!
Going back to work after a long weekend is so tough! I never want to!
Add a few more playtimes and it will be perfect

My mom misses us when she has to go into the office too. Now that she will be starting her own business, she won’t have to go to that office regularly anymore. We are thrilled.
That is so exciting that your Mom is starting her own business, Emma. There is nothing better than working for yourself and it will be such a benefit for you and your siblings too!
Have you tried to get your human co-workers to take a break and play ball? You might be surprised at their response.
Ha ha, you are probably right about that, jan!
Boy that looks like a great outdoor office. Mom could never do that though with Taffy and me because she constantly gets into stuff and mom wouldn’t get anything done. Guess what mom did? She started looking at houses in Vermont! A dog friend mentioned one time how affordable it is so mom is seriously considering it as a top retirement spot. She couldn’t find any cute little house like yours those, it was hard just to find a single story house. Love Dolly
Wow, Vermont, that’s so cool! It’s such a pretty state and yes, affordable…more so than NH. We’re only about 15 miles from the VT border in central NH, so wouldn’t that be cool if your Mom ended up there and we could get together?
I don’t know why single story houses are so hard to come by around here though!
Auntie Sheryl chiming in here…Vermont is beautiful & friendly. It is hard to find single story living, for sure (in New England, as a rule). I highly recommend West Windsor and Windsor VT. You should also check out Cornish, NH…just over the river…lower property taxes than lots of NH towns. :). Good luck!!!!
I like your outside office, I like taking my computer out on the deck too and hanging out.
love your new office :o) I had the idea too to work in our garden, but my co-worker was more contra-productive and as he took a nap the pigeons decorated me and my office in a very ugly way :o(
Luckily our birds are mostly pretty little song birds, and they seemed to be more polite than pigeons. 🙂
No office is as lovely as a home office, but it seems your work one is lovely too! Much better than mine!
