The theme for this month’s Appreciate the Moments photo challenge is “Summer”. Now, summer is barely arriving here in New England; we have had some summer-like days, but we are still getting a lot of cooler days as well. We have at least had enough that I knew what says “Summer” the most to me. One of my favorite things about this season is being able to sit out on our deck, relax, and enjoy nature. I love it when the mornings are warm enough to take my coffee out on the deck.
We haven’t had a lot of those yet, at least not on days when I didn’t have to work, but this past Sunday I finally got one. The Dadz had to work, but Luke and I spent some time out on the deck enjoying the warmth of the early morning sun, and the peace of the morning. Our neighborhood was quiet and all we could hear was the birds singing and the chipmunks chipping. Even better? I made a breakfast sandwich with one of our very own eggs and enjoyed breakfast out there as well!

Luke enjoyed sniffing, and then decided a post-breakfast nap would be a good idea too!

At the other end of the day, I like to do the same thing when I can (and we’ve had more warm evenings than mornings); but now I take a glass of wine out there and watch our birds. The chickens aren’t getting a lot of free-ranging time yet, so the guinea hens have to keep us entertained.

We can at least watch the chickens in their run! On this particular evening, we got to watch the Dadz on his tractor finishing up getting our vegetable garden ready for planting.
This photo illustrates an almost-perfect summer evening (I’ll just be happier when the chickens can be out too):
What says summer most to you?

One of my favorite things is to be out back on our patio with my morning tea – if I can get a breakfast sandwich out of it, all the better! Of course living in crowded, congested Long Island NY we can’t have any chickens so I need to buy my eggs at the store. I’m so jealous of your beautiful wide open space and that barn!
Love & Biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
Oh, thank you, Cathy. We are living our dream, but it took us a long time to get here. 🙂
I’m so jealous of your land! It’s so beautiful. I’m also jealous of your breakfast sandwich LOL! It’s extremely hot in Arizona so the only time we can spend outside is in the early morning, or if we’re swimming!
We’ve had such cool weather this month, I kind of envy your heat! Of course, I know we are wimps here and wouldn’t be able to take it. LOL
I’m glad you’re having at least SOME summer days so far! My ideal summer would be pretty much the same as yours – breakfast and coffee on the deck in the morning and a glass of wine on the deck in the evening. Sounds heavenly. We don’t have a deck, but we have the carport. While Sam watches the news, I take the girls outside. Even though there’s traffic on the road out front, at least I don’t have to listen to the BS! I’ll take the traffic noise any time. (But I miss the peace and quiet of the side porch at my brother’s house in Islamorada. Though now they are in their warm, humid season and it wasn’t quite as comfortable as it was in March and April.)
It seems like those perfect outdoor days are difficult to find, no matter where you are! I’m really hoping tomorrow morning is warm enough for that coffee on the deck. It’s still be on the cool side here, though the sun is plenty warm. You probably appreciate the shade of your carport when it gets hotter!
Those are great moments. If that egg mc muffin was at my house like that the whole gang would be eating it.
Luke is such a good boy, isn’t he? I don’t take my eyes off it though, because he’s not THAT good. LOL
Looks like a beautiful day. Lots of fresh air, sunshine, and good company.
All our favorite things! 🙂
Beautiful Spot ,We normally get the same at this time of year, but this year we have had a lot of summery weather so far….hope it doesn’t mean we’re in for a horrible wet main summer like last year,xx Speedy and Rachel
Mother Nature always keeps us guessing, doesn’t she? 🙂
It looks so peaceful! Our summer is still mostly jeans and sweatshirts weather, but I’m okay with that.
That’s kind of where we’ve been the last few days too, but I think it’s going to get more summer-like over the weekend.
Your yard is fabulous and the hostas make me so jealous. They are incredible! We are enjoying our patio in the morning and evenings here too. It is warm but we always seem to have a nice breeze.
Aren’t those hostas amazing? I can’t believe how big they get!!
your yard looks sooo inviting! Loved these photos!
Thank you, Caren! It is a peaceful place to be. 🙂
Very nice summer photos. e
Thank you, Ellen!
I’m hoping to catch more outside time on our deck…if the rain can stay away 🙂
You must be getting that rain we’ve needed! 🙂
Purrfect photos! Hey, my blog is down until further notice due to a hack attack. We will be back as soon as we can.
OH NO!!!! I was just trying to get on there earlier and it wouldn’t load. I figured it was just one of those temporary glitches, so was going to try again later. 🙁 Good luck!!
What a lovely place you have. Perfect for a dog and (maybe next time we visit – the chickens!!!)
Thank you!! The chickens have been out a little bit, and hopefully more and more soon.
It’s wonderful to experience summer from a lovely deck overseeing parts of the farm. Looks like the guineas know how to play peek-a-boo pretty darn well.
They are too funny, and they love hiding out in the garden or the deep grass down below (I’m sure that’s where all the good bugs are!).
That sounds heavenly! Nice and peaceful. Summer to me means finally not being cold most of the time. If I get too chilled in the air conditioning, I can step outside and get warmed up in a hurry! 🙂
We try to avoid using air conditioning, because after being cold all winter, like you, I enjoy finally being warm again. But you are right, at least it’s easy to step out of the a/c and get some warmth when you need it!
That’s pretty much our perfect summer, too! Except instead of birds and wine, I have baseball on my iPad and a beer. We finally had some warm enough, dry enough days that we could enjoy the back porch and even Soth got to come out in his little tent. It looks like we’re getting ready for more rain, though, so that might not be the case for long!
I’m glad you’ve had some good days to be out there already too. We got a couple days of rain and it’s been pretty cool, but I think it’s finally going to turn around this weekend. I look forward to Sunday when I don’t have to work so I can do the morning coffee thing!
You’re lucky Luke didn’t grab your breakfast sandwich! 🙂
See what a good boy he is? 🙂
That looks wonderful. I could settle on a place like that.
It feels good to have found a perfect home. 🙂
this is so much “summertime and the living is easy”… it’s actually not but for such moment it feels like that…
We definitely need to make the most of those moments, and at least fool ourselves for a bit that life is easy!
It has been to hot to enjoy it much, and now with Bailie injured things are all turned upside down. Enjoy your farm. It looks peaceful.
We had a couple of hot days but that was it! It’s been rather chilly the last few days, but it looks like summer is on it’s way back in now.
We were so glad to see you got good news on Bailie, and now we hope you get some nicer weather too! It’s too early to be hot yet.
