If you’ve seen my snowshoe photos this week, you know that I can attest to the fact that traveling over snow isn’t easy….unless you’re a squirrel, that is.
Squirrels are sometimes known to be loners, but most of us also know that they are acrobats, and bird seed lovers. It didn’t take this big guy long to find his way to my bird feeders when I finally put them out recently.
By the way, the dogs never saw him, I’m the one who had to chase him away…..they were in the house napping!
Thank you to The Lazy Pit Bull for hosting the #52Snapshots of Life photo challenge. Are you joining in the fun? Photos can be shared via blog or social media, just use the hashtags #52Snapshots and #PBSG. Visit other participants through the links below.
Squirrels do make it look easy, don’t they! 🙂 Thanks for linking up with us this week!
If only we could skim over the top of the snow like that (without a sled)!
Oh dear you might need to put some squirrel baffles on those feeders. Once they know where the free food is it’s hard to keep them out of it! I enjoy watching their acrobatics though.
You are so right! They’ve cleaned them out already. They are fun to watch, but they eat way too much. 🙂
Fun travel pictures
Thank you!
I can’t believe the pups slept through something that exciting! This morning I was in the kitchen getting coffee and heard Barley slam into the French doors in the bedroom and start snarling–then Soth ran in, too, and snuck under the other curtain. When I went to see what was going on, there was a squirrel on the big tree swishing it’s tail around. I was afraid it was going to be an axe murder with the way those two were carrying on!
So far this crew doesn’t get wound up by squirrels, but they don’t come in the yard much either. We used to just say the word “squirrel” to our beagle Kobi and he would go crazy!
Great shots and funny story. Our dogs go gaga over squirrels, too. In NYC, they’re all chubby from eating lots of human food scraps. I once saw a squirrel in Madison Square Park sitting in a tree eating Nan! LOL. Here in Florida, they’re small and skinny and travel over the electrical wires a lot. And they’re fast; much faster than NYC squirrels.
That’s too funny about the difference in squirrels. It must be that the extra weight on our squirrels slows them down and makes them not limber enough for running over electrical wires!
Those darn squirrels always seem to get to the feeders. Nice travel picture.
Thanks! I think they might have found the feeders before the birds even did! Not really….I think the chickadees were really there first. 🙂
Squirrels move so fast, you did an excellent job capturing that one!
Thanks! Once in a while my camera cooperates with what I want! 🙂
You’re so right. We watched those evil squirrels dance across the snow like it was no problem!
The red squirrels dig tunnels in the snow….far sneakier…
I am NUTTY about squirrels!! I LOVE them!
They are very entertaining. My hubby is not a fan, however, and used to teach the dogs to chase them away (in the days before we had a fence).
I see you have the same gymnast squirrel in your feeders as we do! 😀 Daisy was oblivious to his antics too.
I forgot when I put my bird feeders out, it wasn’t only going to birds that I attracted!
Pierre would be going berserk over those squirrels. Since he moved in with hus, our squirrel population has dwindled. He has not killed them, just
Terrier-ized them! LOL!
LOL….I can just picture Pierre harassing the squirrels so they leave town!
Squirrel travel – cute!
I’m thinking outside the box, right? 🙂
I can’t believe how much snow you still have! It’s totally Spring here, hope your snow melts! Love Dolly
It’s been melting here some, but it’s pretty slow! Now it’s cold again too….though it’s raining today so hopefully that will wash some away, though I hope it doesn’t make it too icy.
They are also very territorial. they don’t like new squirrels coming into their turf. 🙂 My dogs would be all over that squirrel. LOL
The red squirrels seem to be a bit more friendly to each other, we see them together more often. We actually have more red squirrels in our area…this grey one was a more rare sighting.
They tend to stay out of the yard, though there has been one inside lately, and Cricket gave it a good chase today!
that squirrels know a lot of tricks :o) who can eat while doing a headstand… shall I try that too… maybe it’s a completely new experience :o)
I wonder if that is good for the digestion??
He’s quite the acrobat.
He certainly is! I got some other shots of him balancing on top of the pole, and leaping off. He put on quite the gymnastics show!
Ah yes! Squirrels of the northeast unite! All those acorns they eat turn into squirrelnip (as opposed to catnip) for them and they get high as a kite! LOL But, alas, the squirrels here in the SC Upstate are not as big, not as street smart, and end up getting hit by the vehicles going up and down the roads. Poor things! Makes me want to go back to Wantagh and (humanely) trap a few to bring back here to teach these squirrels how to survive the busy roads.
Oh no, poor squirrels, not being street smart! We do see them getting hit around here too though, even when they have plenty of woods they could hang around in! There is probably another bird feeder across the road though….
BOL! Crazy squirrel! Popping into a yard owned by dogs!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
BOL. The squirrels are actually pretty smart though, and for the most part stay outside of the fenced in dog yard. Though that’s probably just because that’s where the bird feeders are! As it turns out, dogs like bird seed too…therefore no bird feeders in the pen! LOL
Sounds like your dogs have trained you well. My mom knows how to chase squirrels too these days. Good spin on travel.
Ha ha, you are so right, Emma. They nap while I’m guarding the yard!
Thanks…I really had to work hard to think up something for this one!
What beautiful pics Jan..how i wish we had even one day of snow..i can imagine it gets tiresome..much as watching the bush turn to dust here..but i bet the pups would go wild..guess we always envy each others weather 🙂 hugs Bev xx
Thank you, Bev. Even though it has definitely gotten tiresome here, I think everyone should get to enjoy snow at least once! You are right though, we’ll never just be happy with what we have. 🙂 xxoo
