Yesterday I gave you a little introduction to The Lucy Pet Foundation in my #BtC4A post, and today I want to tell you more about them and what they’re up to.
I showed you their founder Joey Herrick and his own rescue dog Lucy, and told how he started this foundation with his own money, and how he has a multi-targeted solution to help end pet overpopulation:
- Education for families about the importance of spaying & neutering.
- Free and low cost mobile spay/neuter clinics all across the country (eventually all free!).
- Grooming & training of shelter pets to help make them more adoptable.
- Enacting legislation benefitting pets, including banning gas chambers at shelters.
They have a huge campaign going on right now that many bloggers are helping to spread the word about. They will be airing what might just be the best Bowl Commercial this year on Super Bowl Sunday, during the Hallmark Channel’s Kitten Bowl. This commercial aims to change the way America looks at cats and dogs forever!
Lucy Pet’s groundbreaking #DogsvsCats football game will feature the most high-tech CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) ever done using animals, and it’s bound to be among the most talked about ads of the year. The director of this commercial is Sam Nicholson, one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed visual effects wizards, best known for Heroes, 24, The Walking Dead, and Star Trek I.

The commercial will draw attention to the 80,000 pets euthanized each week in shelters across the U.S. due to overpopulation. Wait until you see the commercial….I heard that there will be 80,000 different pets in the stands at this football game! Along with that, the stars of the game are rescue pets themselves.

Lucy Pet Foundation recently held a Facebook contest with four different winners selected to appear in the commercial! Here are the lucky winners:
You can read more about the winners by clicking here. They also won iPad minis and #TeamDog or #TeamCat pet jerseys, and now they are holding a second contest where you can have a chance to win one of two iPad minis and Team jerseys, or one of four #TeamDog or #TeamCat sport packs. All you really have to do is take a photo of your pet with a sign that says #TeamDog or #TeamCat.and share it on social media (Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram). Please click here to read all the details for entering the contest, and then get going with your photos! You only have until February 1st to enter.
We hope to have our own entries to share soon as well. We are really excited to see this commercial, but who will we be rooting for….#TeamDog or #TeamCat? Here’s a little sneak peak at the making of the commercial, and you can find even more fun videos on Lucy Pet Foundation’s YouTube channel.
Disclaimer: This post was brought to you in an effort to raise awareness about Lucy Pet Foundation’s upcoming ethical pet population campaign. Lucy Pet Foundation provided all images and information about the commercial, and will be entering our site into a drawing for a chance to win $500 for a 501c3 rescue of our choice! We were in no other way compensated. If you are a blogger interested in spreading the word about this campaign, while also enjoying the chance to earn a donation for your favorite rescue, contact bloggers@lucypetfoundation.org and request more information.
Can I say I’m thrilled to see a Goldendoodle in the winning group? What a great cause. I will definitely share this on FB and other social media sites. I love football, and of course the Super Bowl. The commercials make it extra special, so I look forward to this one. Pawsome!
I know, that was great to see a Goldendoodle on there….we’ll have to watch for him in the commercial!
Thank you for sharing, Cathy, this will definitely be a fun commercial to see!
I’m looking forward to the Super Bowl for one reason and one reason only – the commercials! I am not a (pro) football fan at all. But I’ll still root for #TeamDog every day of the week, month, or year!
We need more “real men” like Joey who put their money where their mouth is — good for him, the LucyPet Foundation, and all the animals they have helped, are helping, and will help!!
We don’t care that much for football either, but a lot of my family does, so we join in their betting pool just for fun. So we pay some attention because of that. I couldn’t just sit and watch a game though, but we sometimes have it on. But I do watch the Puppy Bowl and Kitten Bowl!
I love what you said about Joey being a “real man”….Amen to that! It’s so nice to see someone with money do some real good with it.
This is so great. Please try to remind me to be watching!! We caught some of the Kitty Bowl last year, I remember now, so cute! This foundation looks so awesome, so grateful for people like this.
I’m not sure if I caught the Kitten Bowl last year or not, I’m pretty sure I watched the Puppy Bowl. I will try to remember to remind you!
I guess I didn’t win but it’s for a great cause! Thanks for sharing.
Hope you try for the next contest too!
Three cheers for the Lucy Foundation!
Hip, hip, hooray!
Looks like fun. I wonder how they are going to manage the 80,000 pets in the stands?
Someone will be doing some serious clean up afterwards…..LOL.
Hahaha funny!
This looks like a really fun commercial! I don’t have tv, so I won’t be able to watch it live–but I hope it ends up on YouTube after the Kitten Bowl 🙂
I am sure it will, Beth. In fact, the foundation told us that they will be sharing it with us afterwards, so I will probably be sharing it here or at least on my social media.
Great post and as always we are #TeamDog! Woo Hoo!!
Thanks! Go #TeamDog!! (or #TeamCat? We are a divided household here!)
What a great foundation. Congrats to the winners. I have to check it out on superbowl sunday.
I think it’s going to be pretty cool. It’s so great to see organizations like this doing such good things.
Fantastic! I just love this!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Hope you will enter a photo in the contest!
I will root for team dog :o) And all the best for Lucy Pet Foundation, wish we had more Joey’s and Lucy’s in our world.
So, so true, Easy. Go team dog! (don’t tell the cats I said that)
The past year or two, the Super Bowl ads have kind of gone off track, but the puppy bowl ads have been pawsome!
It does seem like the Super Bowl ads haven’t been as great lately. I enjoy watching the Puppy and Kitten bowls more anyway!
