Our first snow of the season back in November was kind of a bust. It didn’t last very long before it melted, and I lamented the fact that Cricket was not very excited about it like she usually is.
Today the crew is thankful for more snow! We got two small storms last week and then this Monday a bigger one of a few inches, so now we have a lot of snow on the ground. I am thankful for the fact that this time Cricket was excited about it! Waking up to fresh snow is the best as far as she is concerned. On Monday morning, instead of going back to sleep like she usually does, Cricket was running around the house with toys, like a kid on Christmas. Now that’s my girl.

Luckily I had decided to take the day off from work (I hate driving in the stuff), so we were able to get out early to play. I didn’t get any photos that day, but we’ve been playing every day since and I got a few yesterday. You might notice all the snow is trampled down in the photos, showing how much time we’ve been spending out there!

While I hate driving in it, I love the beauty of the snow, and I love how much the K9 crew loves it. It’s more work to get out there now – Luke needs a coat or sweater, and Cricket needs her boots, and then of course I have to bundle up! Looking through the photos I took just made me smile, and that makes it all worth it. Snow is more forgiving on their joints too, making for softer landings, and it gives them such a good work out. Even Luke seems a bit more tired in the evenings now. I’m looking forward to getting my snowshoes out soon so we can all explore out in the woods some more.
What am I most thankful for though? I’m thankful that they have their captain and theΒ team is back together and in action!

The K9 crew looks soooo happy playing in the snow! I love it! Usually, the only time we get snow is when it’s mixed with sleet and/or freezing rain. Ugh! It’s no fun – and it’s dangerous – then. As for driving in the white stuff? I’m with you, 100%!! Especially down here where they all drive like idiots in it.
I’ve seen some examples of that on TV lately! I’m not sure if it was where you are, but there were some pretty bad areas with so many accidents! We get some of the idiots around here too, but not quite as bad.
We ended up with rain on Sunday after a nice snowstorm on Saturday, and then it got cold again and ruined all of our nice fluffy snow. π
What fun they were all so happy.
It looks like they had fun. Our problem is we get snow and then the temps drop so low, it is hard to really enjoy it. I do not like them to run too much in it when it gets all hard and icy.
We’re running into that now. We had about a foot of nice fluffy snow on the ground from 3 storms and it was perfect for the dogs to run and play in. Then it had to go and warm up, rain, and then get cold again. Now the yard is hard and crusty, and Cricket can’t get around nearly as well (not that she won’t try!), so we have to keep play times short. π
Ah, you go Cricket, yay!! Such wonderful photos! Now I am sure you will all be out snowshoeing when I am working (or sleeping), but please keep me in mind when you need a hand taking all the pups with you, Jan! I would love to come snowshoeing with you and the doggies on your land!
That would be fun, Lynn, you’ll definitely have to come over and go out with us! We can do a Saturday afternoon once the holidays are over.
That looks like so much fun, I wish we could play like that in the snow. After ours it got really cold. Mom took me out yesterday for a walk, without booties, and she had to carry me half way home, after a block. We have more snow coming and I know mom is going to make me wear boots so it’s a trade off, boots, play in snow, no boots, no play. Love Dolly
We got that extreme cold too and Luke couldn’t be out in the yard for very long before his paws were bothering him. I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to get boots on him though.
I don’t understand why you dogs are so resistant to them, when they are such a big help to you! π
Nice to see you having fun. Cute sweater.
Thank you! Luke is our fashionista, with a few sweaters and jackets now, but I wish I had a Christmas one for him! π
Yay for Cricket being like a “kid on Christmas” in the snow. So cute! (When we briefly lived where it snowed, I never wanted to drive in it either! Luckily at the time we were in school – and close enough to walk – and then working in Philly and we took the train to work. I don’t think I could live somewhere where I had to drive often in the snow!)
I got in a car accident in the snow when I was young, and after that I was petrified to drive in it for the longest time. Now they make vehicles to go so much better in it, that I feel a bit more comfortable. But I still hate it and avoid it as much as I can!
If we had known you guys wanted snow so much, we would have sent you some of ours! π
Feel free to send any future snow, but if you have any bitter cold weather like we’re having the last couple of days, don’t send that our way! π
I love seeing the crew out there playing and having a blast in the snow! βΊ
I’m so glad that Cricket’s back to her old snow-loving self! I never thought that I’d enjoy winter, but between Barley and Rye, I’m really learning to enjoy it quite a bit.
Same here! I never liked winter in the past, but the crew has really gotten me much more used to it now, and I was even looking forward to snow this year!
They look so happy. Our dogs love snow too. Whenever it’s on the ground, everyone goes into play mode and they have a blast. I take the day off – I don’t drive in it either – and we go in and out all day. We haven’t had a good dose of snow for a couple of years. We had 2″ last week, it melted in the morning.
Enjoy yourself and stay warm.
Staying warm has been a challenge the last few days! It’s been so cold, Luke couldn’t stay outside in it without his paws getting too cold. That we could do without. Today we’re getting more snow and it’s supposed to warm back up some, thank goodness.
Hope you get at least a little snow that lasts long enough to play in!
Incredible pictures … I love watching them all play together!
You all need to get together! One has boots, one has a sweater and the other has nothing! Pretty funny! Great you got snow.
Some buddy is having a blast

We sure enjoyed seeing y’all have so much fun in the snow, way to go Cricket! Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
flying beagle! What a great title to something! LeeAnna at not afraid of color
Don’t you just love it when the crispness of cool temps and fresh snow bring out the friskiness in them? Have fun and stay warm! βοΈ
Cricket the dashing though the snow song was written for you I think… and not for a bobtail named horse … or vice versa?
And as long as we can keep her out of the drifted banks, we’ll be good! π
