How Chewy.com helped to get my fussy cat eating a food I can feel good about!

It is said that wet food can be healthier for cats because it gets more water into them. Samantha is good about drinking water, she loves her fountain, but I still like the idea of her eating something other than dry food. It also makes it easier to include a joint supplement in her diet if we can just sprinkle it on her wet food.
She has always preferred dry food, so we let her have that in the evenings. In the morning we try to get her to eat wet food, but she’s extremely fussy about what she’ll eat. I can’t even tell you how many brands we’ve been through. She stuck to a brand I don’t think too highly of for quite a while.
We thought she liked it because it had a lot of gravy, but often she’d leave the chunks of food behind, and she started doing that more and more. We tried a different brand of similar food, but we’d have to keep adding warm water to the leftover chunks to get her to eat more. Frankly, we were throwing out a lot of cat food, and if she didn’t finish she also wasn’t getting her supplement which at 14 years old, we feel she should have.
I refused to give up on getting her to eat wet food! We tried more, she ate less. I read about a brand called Tiki Cat somewhere and thought it looked interesting. When Chewy.com offered us a chance to try some as part of their #ChewyInfluencer blog program, I knew it was our chance. If Sam refused, I could always outsource our review to Cousin Nina (my sister’s cat).

Long story short: Sam LOVES it. We started out with small portions and she kept cleaning the bowl, so we kept giving more and more. She cleans the bowl every time, even when there are big chunks of food in it. Look at the fish in the Mackerel & Sardines flavor! I mushed it down for her a little bit but that was it. We don’t have to add water or anything to entice her.

Tiki Cat is a grain free, human grade, gourmet cat food. Their nutrient profile mimics wild prey, and is “biologically appropriate”. I feel good about feeding it to Sam, and we may even try some of their dog food.

This King Kam grill comes in a 6 flavor variety pack with several different fish options. So far Sam likes them all. Now, she is sometimes known to eat something and then lose interest after a while, so we will keep our paws crossed. We’re almost through her 12 can pack and have ordered another from Chewy.
As always, Chewy gets our orders here quick as they can, almost always within 2 days; and shipping is free if you spend over $49. Problem with your order? Chewy’s customer service is impeccable. You can call or chat with them online.
As regular readers know, Sam has some health issues: hyperthyroidism and high blood pressure. Both are under control with meds. The last time we took her to the vet I was concerned she’d lost weight; she felt so light when I picked her up. She had only lost a little, but still. Well, guess what? Since she started eating this food, I’m picking her up and she’s feeling heavier again!
Of course, we don’t want her getting too heavy, so we’ll monitor her and cut back her food if needed. But for right now, I’m just thrilled that she’s eating so well and happy I did not give up on her! Thanks for the help, Chewy!

Those chunks of fish look like the sardines I like to eat!
That made me chuckle, because when we add sardines to the dogs’ homemade meals, I always comment that I don’t know how people can eat those! LOL
I’m glad that you found something Sam enjoys! That’s fantastic that you can actually see the different ingredients like that! My picky Soth does not like food with big chunks of fish in it (which doesn’t disappoint me because that kind of makes me feel a little queasy myself–but I guess all wet cat food does), so we’ll probably have to avoid this one.
We’ve been feeding the dogs sardines in their homemade meals sometimes, so I think I’ve become immune to the queasiness now. LOL
There is NO doubt that she loves that food 🙂
So glad Sam likes Tiki Cat. We haven’t tried Tiki, but I have heard good things and always been curious. From the picture, it really does look like real food. I think we will give it a try with Rosie!
Let us know if you try it and Rosie likes it – we bet she will!
When our clinic cat was not feeling well and at the end of her life this is the only food she would eat. Good stuff!!
I just hope Sam sticks with it…..she definitely likes to challenge us at times! 🙂
Tiki Cat is some pretty tasty foods! We love it…but don’t get it very often since most of them are fish-based and we don’t eat a lot of fish.
You guys are the opposite of Sam – fish is about the only thing she WILL eat!
That was a terrific review of some darn good yum!
I’m so happy that you found a wet food that she loves! I lost a cat to FUS and the vet told me it was because she only ate dry food. This was in the early 80’s so not much was known about it back in the day. Pet care has grown by leaps and bounds.
One of our cats had that too, but thankfully we were able to get it under control. He had to be a on a wet prescription diet for quite a while. I don’t know why we got away from feeding wet for a while after that…maybe because it was often said that wet food might be bad for their teeth. You are right…pet care has definitely come a long way since then!
Our kitty friend loves that stuff

Not ever having cats, I had no idea they can be finicky with food. Shopping Chewy’s is a pawsome strategy for finding the purr-fect meal for them and dogs. We ❤️ Chewy’s!
oh that fish screams my name… is it stinky too?like that surstroemming from sweden? then it would be pawfect :o)
Oh yes, it’s stinky, trust me. The dogs are clamoring to lick Sam’s bowl when I’m bringing it back to the kitchen!
My mom’s cousin has a super picky cat who also has constipation issues. She eats Tiki Cat wet food all the time and it works well for her too. We think the name is cool.
I love their name too, along with the cute black cat in their graphics!
