Mother Nature still has on a roller coaster ride that will be taking us right into March. Yesterday it was raining most of the morning, quite hard at times, and then before the storm ended, there was a little bit of snow.
We chose many of the chicken breeds for the farm that we did because of their winter-hardiness. However, even though they can survive our cold New England winters doesn’t mean they’re happy about it! If we’re getting a big snowstorm that’s piling up, they’ll pretty much stay inside, though some will venture from the coop to the garage.
This warmer spell we’ve been having the last few days has been right up their alley, with the driveway and some of the yard now being snow free. Even when the rain changed to snow, they still ventured out to see me when I went out to check for eggs.
I guess as long as the ground isn’t covered, they’re OK with it. They don’t mind getting wet, rain rarely keeps them inside unless it is really coming down hard.
As our snow has been melting from warmth and rain, there is not a lot of pretty to see around here, except for our birds of course!
