If you follow us on Instagram, you might have seen that we got out snowshoeing on Sunday. It may have been our last snowshoe of the season! I wanted to blaze trails on Saturday to make it easier for the dogs, but I was having some lower back pain and didn’t want to worsen it. We decided to just head out there with the dogs on Sunday. In the thicker woods the snow was soft for them, but where it was more open and had gotten some sunshine, it was crusty.
I didn’t want to risk Luke breaking a nail again busting through that crust! Our smart boy figured out all on his own that dropping back and following in the Dadz footsteps was a better idea. Those tracks to the left of Dadz and Luke are deer tracks, we saw tons of them out there!
Now, who knows why all eyes were on the Momz?

How far do you go?
If we do the outer border of our property, it’s about a mile. But sometimes we zig zag around so it’s hard to know, but we usually just go for 45 minutes to an hour. I’d like to go further eventually, there’s a lot more woods beyond our property; but we don’t want to overdo the dogs either with one with arthritis and the other bad knees! If we had more consistent snow cover we could gradually work our way to further and see how they did, but our winter has been way to up and down weather-wise this year.
The “Momz” is no doubt the director of that little episode! Happy trails.
Haz Momz got treatz??
Looks like a fun outing. When we briefly lived in Canada we would go running in our snowshoes with our beagle, and she would hop along behind us going from snowshoe track to track. So cute!
Looks like fun and a good work out.
Is it the training for “watch me”? They are doing it good? And a treat must be the reward?!
Yes, but I never even got that far. They heard the treat bag rustle and they were watching me without even being told to! 🙂
It looks like a fun trek, but also cold and a lot of work. Moms usually carry treats so it’s useful to keep an eye on them.
Luckily for us, that day was pretty warm….it was actually above freezing! Luke keeps his ears open too, and he heard me crinkle the treat bag before I even got them out!
I’m glad that you got out and had fun! We are finally probably getting some snow here. March through May is when we get the most! (odd, I know).
That is odd, and I did not know that! So you have more fun ahead, while we’re getting done with it (though we just got some more snow today!).
I have never tried snowshoes, but it looks like fun. Though we have had so little snow this year that this wouldn’t have been the year to give snowshoes a try. Maybe next year!
We didn’t get out at all last year, since we had very little snow. Even this year we only got out a few times. It was very warm a lot of the time, so even when we did get snow, it pretty much melted before we could get out there!
You guys are trailblazers! 😉
We think Mom is very brave!
Were all EYEs on the Momz or all NOSEs? It makes a difference, you know.
I actually think it was EARs too – someone heard the goodie bag crinkling in my pocket! 🙂
That looks like so much fun but very cold! It is in the 90’s here already!
90’s is a little hot for us, but still, I have to say that sounds pretty darn good right now! It’s been snowing here all day again, and just as most of what we had was melted….now we have another 4 inches on the ground!
What a nice snowshoe day.
You need a little boot kid. No more broken nails
Lily & Edward
He would be wearing boots if he’d let me put them on him! 🙂
You either had treats or a ball/toy – and I’m guessing it was probably really stinky treats – in your hand. Did you bring some for the Dadz too? Hehe.
Hehe, no treats for the Dadz! I did have treats, but I hadn’t even gotten them out yet. Luke just heard the bag crinkling! 🙂
????
it’s great to prepare the way for the pups… it has something of northhpole-adventurers and maybe your mom becomes as famous as all that polar-discoverers too?
Around here Mom is the number one person in our lives, so we always focus on her. Snow shoes sure look like fun in the deep stuff.
