My hubby and I are leaving town on the 4th for a long weekend in northern New Hampshire. I am feeling more than a little guilty about leaving the dogs, especially so soon after losing Moses. These plans are with my family, and have been in the works for months, so we are really committed. We’ve also been looking forward to it very much, and the time away will be good for us.
We were even more concerned about the fact that our scheduled pet sitter was new for us, and she had her own personal issues going on, and we hadn’t even met her yet (she was coming through a mutual pet sitter friend). Thank goodness, my close friend Sheryl became available for us, just as we were going through everything with Moses. Sheryl used to pet sit for us a lot years ago, but then her living circumstances changed and she no longer could. Since then, my sister has been caring for the animals, but she is going with us on the trip! Sheryl’s circumstances had changed once again, enabling her to help us out this time, much to my great relief. The dogs and cats know her and her son, and they love both of them. We feel so much more comfortable leaving now, knowing they will be in good hands, with someone we all know and love.
Neither of our girls are nuts about thunderstorms and fireworks, but nothing phases Kobi. Kobi has always been very laid back, and now he is getting deaf also, and he’s totally oblivious when he falls asleep. The girls are another story. We have discussed it, and Sheryl knows just what to do to get them through it, so hopefully they all will be looking just like this: RELAXED, or as close to it as possible!
Here’s a reminder of ways to keep your dogs safe through the 4th:
We hope you enjoy your celebration of our country’s Independence Day, no matter where you are or how you are celebrating!
Don’t worry, Jan. your babies are doing great! We all stayed in the TV room during the fireworks last night watching Independence Day! 🙂 everyone slept through it all! 🙂 thanks for mentioning me in your blog. We love those babies of yours! Enjoy time with your family. 🙂
Thanks for letting me know that, Sheryl. I’m so glad the fireworks weren’t an issue this year, once I read that, it helped me relax more while we were gone!
Have a great 4th and a great weekend. Mom understands the pet sitter stress. She never likes to leave us and usually her cousin takes care of us but last month her cousin couldn’t and mom won’t take us to a kennel. We found a pet sitter but she cancelled a week before mom left. We found another pet sitter that we met 3 days before mom left. It seemed like things would be fine but Mom was worried sick. The neighbors emailed mom that the pet sitter was there, was spotted walking us and that made Mom feel better, but it was tough and with Moses, we totally understand you being a bit torn and on the edge.
Thanks, Emma. I read your comment on our way out of town, and it made me feel better that we weren’t the only ones with pet sitter issues, or that worry so much when we’re gone. I’m glad your neighbors were able to make your Mom feel better that time. Sheryl emailed me photos while we were gone, and everything went great. We were lucky it all worked out in the end.
Enjoy the 4th of July…and your long weekend! 🙂
Thank you, and you as well!
Try and have a good time and I am happy that Sheryl’s plans changed so she could help put your mind at ease.
Have a safe and wonderful trip!
Thank you, Caren. I am going to try like heck to relax and enjoy! Being with family will keep me occupied, so that will help.
