Just as with humans, I believe that dogs can benefit from a well-rounded lifestyle. Before Luke came along we gave our dogs great lives but there might have been a little bit lacking. Once I became a blogger and started connecting with other pet savvy bloggers and quality brands I learned so much more.

The girls Cricket and Sheba and the dogs that came before them have always had exercise as part of their lives. When we had one and two dogs it was more about hikes and walks, but once we got up to four dogs it was more about being at home in our own yard playing fetch. There are still walks, swims, and occasional hikes, but fetch is the favorite around here.
What we didn’t do much of in the past was training, other than the basics. Luke enjoys learning new tricks with the clicker and that keeps his mind stimulated.

The food we fed improved over the years, but I learned that we could have done so much better. Now we do.
The chance to try Wellness® Complete Health™ Line fit in perfectly with where we are at now. We’ve discovered that grain free food is of great benefit to all of the dogs health-wise, but Luke especially sees those benefits since he seemed to have a sensitive tummy. I am happy that brands like Wellness don’t rest on their laurels, but work to continually improve their products such as recently adding grain free options to the Complete Health line. Luke has been eating this food for over a month now and he is thriving. I know other pet families have used grain free as a way to help with weight issues, and even though that wasn’t our goal I think it has helped Luke in that way.
As regular readers know, we’ve moved to a new home and up until last week we only had a small pen for all that fetch play. The lousy spring weather limited our walks as well, so I know the crew just wasn’t getting the exercise they needed (except for maybe Cricket who never stops moving). I had noticed Luke looking a little plumper and though I chalked it up to his growing up and “filling out” I have now seen that he is looking slim and trim again, and wondered if it was because of his food change to Wellness. It is especially important for Luke to stay slim because he has bad knees and we want to avoid surgery for as long as possible.

No matter if the Wellness is the whole reason why he slimmed down or not, there are many other benefits to this product:
- Wellness contains quality ingredients such as chickpeas, flaxseed, carrots, and spinach just to name a few.
- It contains the all-important Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids that support a dogs’ skin, coat, and overall health.
- It is filled with a balanced blend of high-quality proteins, grain-free carbohydrates and select fats to provide much needed energy.
- The healthy digestion I already mentioned which is such a great benefit for Luke. A combination of healthy fiber, chicory root extract, and pre- and probiotics support it.
- Vitamin A benefits the eyes while calcium and phosphorous support healthy teeth and gums.
- Antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, as well as supplements such as Vitamin E all help support a healthy immune system.
I don’t talk about it a lot, but Luke has issues with going to the vet since any strangers make him extremely nervous. Therefore, keeping him as healthy as possible and avoiding that stress is even more important for him. Providing him with better nutrition from wholesome foods with natural ingredients, as well as keeping him active and happy are the best ways we know to provide him with an easier life. That easier life filled with love is what feeds his soul.

Wellness is a great company
That looks like a yummy food. 🙂
Nothing good comes from grain when your on four legs!
So true! We have very few stomach issues since they’ve been on grain free. Our beagle Kobi used to have a lot of them which we could never figure out, and I wish I’d known about grain free then.
For a while before and after Ducky came along, I was feeding Callie & Shadow the Wellness Core (grain free) until the last two big bags I bought at PetSmart started smelling moldy less than a week after I opened them. And both times, the store manager refused to give me a full refund. So, when I opened the smaller bag that I bought in anticipation of using to transition the big girls to something else, I took pictures of the codes and “use by” dates with my phone. Sure enough, the inside of the smaller bag started smelling moldy a few days later. I called WellPet and told them the whole story. They sent me a bunch of coupons to make up the difference. But by then I had decided to never buy another bag of food – especially Wellness – at PetSmart as long as that same manager was running the store. Now with the added pre- and probiotics added to so many dry dog foods, I have a hard time finding one brand that works for Shadow.
I’m sorry you had that bad experience, Sue. We don’t have a PetSmart around here, but we have other chain stores and each is only as good as the local management (which, sadly, in our area isn’t usually that good).
Since pre and probiotics are becoming such a big thing, it must be very difficult for you to find food that works for Shadow.
I know so much more with Cocoa than I did with Daisy. But when you know better you do better!! Food is so important to their health and happiness. We are looking for a new food for Miss Cocoa.
I hope you’ll consider giving Wellness a try….I think the price is very reasonable too. I think we are going to switch Cricket over to it soon as well.
We don’t eat this particular kibble but we do love the brand and their products, like treats!
Wellness is our go-to dry dog food and I use it in their puzzle toys. Great review and I love your photos.
Thank you, Melissa! I even mix kibble in with treats for training with Luke, and he still stays motivated!
I did use Wellness for Sampson for a while. I love how so many dog food manufacturers have discovered that grain-free is the way to go. I’m worried we might put wheat farmers out of business though. 😉
I think I eat enough bread to keep them going for a while….LOL.
We are really enjoying this food
