There was one thing that struck me about our new home before we bought it – a lack of color. All of the walls are white or neutral colors with off-white trim (other than a pink bathroom which is the first thing I’m changing!). I am a person who loves color, and I knew that was something I was going to have to change immediately when we moved in.
However, cleaning, unpacking, and arranging all takes so much time! We got a lot done our first week when we were on vacation from work, but once we had to go back to work things slowed down considerably. We’ve only finished one small painting project so far.
One way to add instant color is with accessories and wall art. Before we moved I was given an opportunity to review animal art from framedart.com. We already had a lot of animal art in our previous home, and though that all came with us, I knew I also wanted some new pieces for our new home. I looked for something colorful, and I chose The Garden Cat by Greg Gawlowski. Cats and gardens are two things I love so it was a perfect choice.
Between hanging this art above our bed, and adding a colorful quilt I had also selected ahead of time, I think it has brightened up our bedroom considerably.

It was tough to make a selection though! Their collection of animal artwork to choose from is extensive, not to mention all of the other art available. You can click here to browse just their animal art. Once you’ve selected your artwork, there are still many more choices to make! There are 60 frames to choose from, you can opt to add 1-3 mats in 26 different colors, and then you have choices in plexiglass and glass (non-glare in both or museum quality glass).
As you make your selections the price continually recalculates making it easy. I had a budget of $75 for my selection, so opted to skip the mats in favor of a larger print, and then selected a colorful frame to accent it. I think Samantha approves!

The only downfall here to me is that it can get pricey. But I’ve had photos custom framed locally and that is pricey as well. I believe that is just the nature of good artwork – it can be expensive (though they are always running sales as well). Expensive is relative anyway, don’t you think? What seems expensive to me might be a bargain to someone else! I think it’s worth it to dress things up, and I look forward to adding more pieces to our home, old and new.
*Disclaimer: We received a complimentary piece of artwork of our choice from framedart.com but were in no other way compensated. Wag ‘n Woof Pets only shares products we believe will be of interest to our readers, and all reviews are our own honest opinions.
It looks great! You made a good choice.
The whole room looks fabulous!
Love the picture it looks great! Mom painted her living room (its since been changed) a dark camel tan color, just like what is in your quilt. Just a suggestion if you plan on painting the room! Love Dolly
Thanks for the suggestion….I am always open to them! That room currently has wallpaper so I think we’re actually going to wallpaper it instead of painting. That would be a nice warm color though, so maybe I’ll look for it in some wallpaper!
Our walls lack color, too. But we have a lot of framed photos, one of my grandmother’s embroidered works, and an antique mirror on the walls. I love color, too, but Sam prefers off-white walls and tan carpeting. Bor-ing!! Oh well. At least it’s not the god-awful olive green and dark gold that my mother had Dad paint the master bedroom in the house we moved into when I was nine years old! My brother and I had to put on two coats of primer to cover that up before re-painting the room! ????
PS. I LOVE the framed art pic AND the new quilt and pillow covers!! The artwork is lovely, especially the way the cherry-red frame brings out the colors in the picture!
Every place we ever rented (and we moved about 5 times before building our last house) had white walls and brown carpet, so I vowed never to have any of that again! But I think olive green and dark gold definitely sounds worse than neutral colors. LOL
I’m so pleased that you liked the frame I picked out for that photo!
Love that picture, and the whole room looks super now!
It definitely looks like Sam approves of the new art work! I love the pop of color it adds (as well as the bedding!). I’m so with you on loving colors–I have so many colors picked out for my house, but after the marathon kitchen and master bedroom painting sessions, it will be a while before I can convince myself to pick up a paint brush again. After weeks of removing wallpaper, I think I’d be ok with boring old white walls, though!
I don’t have anything on my walls yet, but I’m looking forward to getting my pet art wall back up in the living room–once I figure out where all of the pieces ended up!
Most of our artwork is now lining our hallway…sitting on the floor. LOL. We have one area almost done, but that’s where we’re putting in a new door (where there is none). So we can’t even complete that until the door is in! I just don’t see the point in hanging much until we’ve painted, and most of the rooms need painting! At least the biggest area, the open concept living/dining doesn’t need it (yet).
I’ve just barely started painting our master bathroom. I think I’m burnt out already, and I don’t even want to think about how many rooms I have yet to go! I forget how time consuming doing the trim, etc., can be. Believe it or not, it’s not that big of a room but there’s three doors! But at least I got that part of the way first, so now the walls should be easy.
I know that struggle well! Once I get my bedroom art, I can hang stuff in there because that’s painted, but my kitchen looks so pretty and was so much work that I can’t bear the thought of pounding a nail into the walls to hang anything! My living room needs painting–but once it gets started, it will involve going down the hallway and possibly up the stairs, too, and I just don’t know when I’ll have that kind of ambition!
We do love that one and any critter would like to sit on that path!
That is a beautiful picture. The colors are great.
looks marvelous!!! I love nothing more than framed art!
Your room looks great, real clean and fresh. Cats are so nosy, they always have to check out everything!
Lovely print, and it looks great with the colorful quilt! I think Samantha is saying, “Hey, is that me in the picture? I don’t remember you taking that one!”
I’m currently shopping for art for over our fireplace. It’s a very efficient gas fire place that gets super hot, so I’m having a hard time finding something that will work! (The framed photo we have hanging there now got ruined… such a bummer cuz we paid a lot for it. sigh.)
Thank you! Sam is more likely wondering, “where the heck are those gorgeous gardens? Momz isn’t that good at gardening!” LOL
Hmmm…I wonder what you can do for a hot area like that? Maybe some kind of metallic art? I see a lot of pretty stuff like that.
Yeah, we are looking into that – but it’s still a bit complicated! Sometimes the metal pieces are backed with stuff that’s combustible. We found a place that uses all metal – but they only do your own photos, and I don’t have a good enough camera to blow a pic up as big as what we want. Found a prof’l photographer online who does prints on metal – but he hasn’t answered my emails. Don’t know why this stuff has to be so complicated?? One of these days we’ll get there!
OMD! It looks great nd I love your new comforter too. You are right, having photos or paintings framed is expensive. You get what you pay for though and this one looks worth the price. ☺
It’s a GREAT print and I love the red frame………looks super above the bed with new quilt on it……I love decorating…….!
Pam
Thank you, Pam! I love decorating too. That’s one of the joys of buying this house, because it really needs A LOT! LOL
It’s a lovely addition to the room. In general my walls lack color. Mostly because I am not good at interior decorating. My goal is to be rich, so I can pay someone. LOL
I think you chose a great picture, but I’m wondering if Sam is thinking she might have some competition. 🙂
I imagine Sam wishes she was that cat, since she doesn’t get to go outside!
I really enjoy decorating, and painting too. I also have two friends who are very good at it, so I can bounce my ideas off of them; which helps me a lot when I’m unsure. Although usually I’ll just do what I want anyway! 🙂
I love it! and Samantha made it purr-fect! she could be the cat in this garden :o)
I think she would like to be! We actually have a garden with a pathway like that at our new house (only not that big!).
