Samantha has generously agreed to review two wonderful cat books for us today. Of course, we had to get her up first.

Fine, I’ll get up then! The first book I am reviewing is Daily Yoga For a Happy and Healthy Cat by Shri Swami Sattvapurrrrrananda (otherwise known as Swami Zoe). Swami Zoe has put together a lovely book illustrating her favorite simple yoga poses which can lead to a healthy and joyful life for us felines. Her mom, Julianne Victoria (also Mom to Ku of Haiku by Ku fame…Ku also wrote a book which Momz reviewed) provided all of the wonderful photos of the Swami. The book includes instructions for and illustrations of Asana (postures) and Pranayama (breathing exercises).
- This might make a good yoga mat!
First of all we are told what we need to gather together to practice our yoga…a blanket or towel, perhaps a catnip toy if we desire. We are reminded that regular bathing, adequate nutrition, and hydration are essential The Swami tells us that “running water is especially refreshing and invigorating”. I could not agree more! I love fresh running water and here I am illustrating that along with Swami Zoe!

Here I am practicing one of the moves Swami Zoe demonstrated….how am I doing? Not too bad, huh?

You can purchase this book for yourself on amazon.com (currently the kindle version is on sale for 99 cents!) 50% of the proceeds will go to animal rescue! You can also visit Swami Zoe’s blog here. I love this book and would like to thank Swami Zoe for providing us with a copy in exchange for our fair and honest review. The Momz says we always have to be honest so of course we are.
With that in mind, I have to tell you that I am not so sure about this next book. Momz entered a giveaway on one of my favorite blogs, Cat Chat with Caren & Cody, and I just don’t really understand why. On top of entering, she told people I was overweight, and that she was trying to win the book for me! The nerve, right?
Well, I can tell you this….the book makes a good placemat for my bowl of food, and that’s about all it’s good for! As you can see here, I tried to read it, but it was just not for me. Because I am not overweight. I believe I’ve actually lost weight recently….not that I needed to, mind you, but because my parents thought bringing home a puppy was somehow a smart thing to do. I believe that running away from that puppy is the smart thing to do, and therefore I’ve been burning plenty of calories that way! BTW, I’m not afraid of Luke….I’m just trying to get HIM some exercise, because who likes a fat puppy, really?
Anyway, Mom says the book is tongue-in-cheek, whatever that means, and that I should not take it so seriously. It begins with an insulting quiz to determine what kind of feline dieter you should be (if you actually need to diet that is). For example, one of the questions is: “Brushing my teeth after a meal” and gives four silly answers, when the obvious correct one is “Is a good way for someone to end up at a hospital getting treated for a cat bite”. You are supposed to tally your answers to determine whether you are a “Comatose cat, OCD cat, ADD cat, Chronic dieter, or Psycho kitty.” Well, apparently I fall into none of those categories because there is also the option of “No answers/refusal to participate in the quiz: FAT CAT FOR LIFE. We won’t even bother trying to convince you of the health benefits of losing a few pounds. Go back to sleep. We’ll wake you when it’s time for dinner.” Really, Momz, is that funny?
After that I was done with the book, and left Momz to sit there and chuckle to herself reading it. She insists that I tell you that all of you cat loving humans (and even if you don’t love cats) will get some very good laughs from this witty book. You can read it all in one sitting, or just read some excerpts here and there as you have time. Go ahead, enjoy, see if I care! It’s on special at Amazon.com ($7.99 for kindle version) if that’s the kind of thing you care to waste your money on. You’d do better just to buy your cat some treats instead of insulting them with this book. But that’s just me. Oh, and Conrad was not subjected to any of it, because apparently HE’S not considered overweight. Hunh.

Anyway, I know Cody didn’t really have anything to do with this book giveaway, so I will share with you the links to HIS blog and HIS Facebook page. BTW, isn’t he a cutie?

Grreat review on Swami Zoe´s Yoga book !
I think you are pretty good on yoga too 🙂
My mom-person would furry much read that second book : Does this collar makes my butt look fat ?
Don´t ask me why *sigh*
Thank you! There is just no telling with our human moms, is there? For myself, I am going to stick to Swami Zoe’s yoga. Diets are silly. Thanks for coming by to read my review!!

Excellent reviews and pictures to match. Loved it!
Thank you! We got lucky on this one….usually the Momz gets NO cooperation when trying to get photos! 🙂
Excellent reviews! Ku is a good buddy of mine, since we are both poets, and his sister Swami Zoe is an excellent yoga instructor! You did a great job practicing your yoga; you are a natural!
For that other book, I don’t know why anyone would give somecat a book that determines if they are F-A-T. That is just plain rude. Maybe the whole book is a joke? It does sound funny from your review.
*high paws*
Oz
Oh, thank you so much, Oz! Zoe was definitely a great instructor and she made it easier! That is cool that you and Ku are friends and fellow poets!
Yes, I guess that book really is just a big joke. Well, it would have to be, otherwise it is just rude like you said!
Meow!

Great job on the reviews, Sam! I love the pic of you drinking from the faucet. Too cute. How embarrassing for you to have your mom telling folks you are overweight! It does sound like a fun book though. And how great that it doubles as a nice dinner-bowl stand!
Thank you, Jackie. I guess Moms are like that, huh? At least that book came in handy for something!

Not a bad post for cats! My cats are too lazy to be blogging about anything. I wanted to get that fat butt book for my chubby cat bro, but Mom said it was not nice of me. Oh well, let him be chubby! You better get some catnip and take a nap after all that work!
That’s a fine idea, Emma, so I did exactly that! A LONG nap too….that was a lot of work, and I’m sure glad Mom doesn’t ask me to do it very often! Huh, I guess your Mom is nicer than mine was, since she wouldn’t let you get the book for Bert! 🙂
Love, Sam
Wonderful review Samantha! I think you’ve got that yoga stuff down pretty good! The 2nd book does sound funny, but only if you are a human I guess.
Thank you, Ann. You humans do have warped senses of humor! We cats have much more sophisticated tastes. 🙂
Love Sam
🙂 So glad that CATS do Yoga too. 2nd book’s title is FUNNY. Golden Thanks for sharing. Golden Woofs

Sam and Mom
Samantha, you are so sweet to worry about Luke becoming a fat puppy. And people say cats are selfish. 🙂
Thank you! I’m so glad I could set that myth to rest!!
